Not long ago I was rocking Hyper X Cloud II’s and Z906’s thinking I had prime audio
Now I have DT990’s, Sundara’s, 6XX, Schiit Magni 3, Bas X A-100
Basically I have been spoiled, now I want to be redpilled on how shit my Z906’s are, since I only even use my Hyper X Cloud II’s for when i need total sound isolation, or when I want a mic without having to hookup my Audio Technica AT2020 since I took apart my clamp mount… and honestly I am already planning on getting the Argons and maybe the M1060C (M1060 or C is on my must buy list) just so I have some decent closed backs… Honestly RN the Z906’s sound great but now I know they must be shit after dabbling into entry level audiophile speaker prices
Basically I am a few feet into the money pit about to jump and the Z906’s are the rope about to snap so redpill me so I can calm the hell down with these headphone buys and save for an expensive pair in the distant future

if any of you want to do me a favor recommend some 5.1 budget audiophile systems that can give me that 80-90% close to the $300 I paid (if they exist)
Thank you and God Bless.

welcome to the rabbit hole! forgive how cramped it is…quite a few of us have found it recently.
rabbit hole is an apt description, we are F***ing(not each other but saying f it and enjoying audio) like rabbits and all future ramifications be damned. TAKE MY MONEY AUDIO COMPANIES!!! TAKE IT!!! I NEED MORE!!!

hah!
btw, regarding your audio system…surround sound isn’t much of a think for music and $300 isn’t very much for a home theater 5.1 system either. the rule is that it’s better to put your budget into a solid 2.0 system and then add on as you can.

You already have a good stereo amp. Why not go with a pair of stereo speakers? You have many options for 300$.
5.1 won’t do much for music other than making the room sound like a club.
can you recommend a standout pair? I got off to a good start with headphones having some if not all (990 vs 880 debatable) best pairs under $400-500
Depends a lot on what kind of sound you’re looking for, the market is quite competitive at this price and they can vary in what they do better than the others. There are also deals to be had which can bring 500-700$ speakers under 500$. So a bit of research and waiting can pay off.
Some pairs I have heard generally very good reviews for would be the Klipsch RP-600M, JLB Studio 530, KEF Q350. There’s also ELAC but I haven’t really cared about them since I can’t buy them locally, but they’ve made some of the most hyped bookshelves.
You can also go lower in budget with Q Acoustics and their 3030i, KEF Q150. I’m not sure about Dali in the US, but in the EU they are competitive in price and sound really nice.
I’m sorry I can’t be “this is the best get these” because there are a lot of models and it depends on the currenct prices and your region. But I’m sure if you can narrow down your preferences, this forum has plenty of info on many models.
