Now that Zen CAN went up in price from $150 to $190 ($170 MSRP), is it still worth purchase when you have options like Asgard3 for $200?
Looks like it caught up in popularity and demand hence price increased by 26% from just few weeks ago.
you can also purchase it now and not have to wait 6-8 weeks. which is probably driving demand up. i doubt ifi jacked it up because of popularity. most likely because it costs them more to make with all the chip shortages.
both are a solid buy and I don’t think you would regret either.
does anyone know how warm the Zen CAN is without the BB DAC vs how warm the Asgard 3 is?
Yes, you are correct it went up in price, but it did not go up in price due to popularity and demand.
The Zen CAN I’d say is solidly over on the warm side while the Asgard from what I’ve heard is more neutral warm.

I might go for Magni3+ instead which is available. It does have enough juice Sundara but do you think these planar magnetic headphones benefit from more juice in that they open up more in soundstage and resolution?
You mean the magni 3+?
If so thats a very capable great sounding amp for $100.
I use it with less sensitive planars than the Sundara.
I have that on one setup and an Asgard 3 on another.
They both sound great but the A3 does have a larger soundstage likely due to the oversized power supply.

Yeah it was typo. Currently using hip-dac with my Sundara which is very capable to drive them loud. The sound is warm and relaxed, mids quite forward but a a few times music sounds little compressed, and it has narrow stage most likely due to only 0.6W it can provide on balanced output.
I guess given your comment above I should just jump into AS3 + Modi3+ and in interim while waiting just use my current portable dac/amp.
If if you have the space and the extra $100, the A3 is certainly worth it.
The reason I use the magni 3+ in one of my setups is limited space.
Its still great, but there is a noticeable difference. Probably makes sense to just use the hipdac till your ready.
like is being said…the A3 is totally worth the extra, especially compared against the 3+.
Actually I meant AS3 is on 6-8 weeks backorder and meanwhile I can get by hip-dac while waiting that long. I just placed order for AS3 + Modi3+. I didn’t think getting Modius was necessary and if I ever move to balanced amp, I can then sell and order a new balanced DAC.
I use balanced newfantasia 4.4mm cable with my hip-dac but got 6.35mm-4.4mm cable adapter that works well allowing to move easily between two.
