I hear you but I actually havenāt sold any audio gear yet. Once I sell my first, Iāll probably be more lax with buying with the expectation of potentially selling. Have like four Schitt things I want to get off my hands - love my Bifrost 2 and Asgard 3, but I have some more entry level stuff I have zero use for.
I have 4 of the ZMFs. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Each can sound much different depending on what you are driving them with. For instance my Camphor burl Aeolus is crazy good on my Liquid platinum but not quite as good on my Feliks echo. For some music the Aeolus just jams on my Asgard 3 and other times not so much. The Padauk Atticus does phenomenally well on the the Echo and the LP and is ok on the A3. The cherry Eikon seems to do well on all but not quite as well as the Silkwood Auteur. So much like every person hears differently Headphones will change with different inputs be it music or amplification. Just my 3 cents.
Are you looking to adopt?
Now that is frickin funny!!
Stop by and hang out sometime.
Obviously. Youāre entitled to your opinion and so are we.
Agreed. Most see them more than just a headphone. They are special because they are hand made and every customer has to wait for their headphone to be specially made for them. Itās not a mass produced pice of plastic and metal. It is extraordinary in a world where everything else is ordinary.
This. I see them kind of as a rite of passage,
I was reading through some old Aeolus posts and I remember a pic from the Clear MG thread recently. Iām confused.
for whatever itās worth, i thought the aeolusās sounded like a grown up and more confident sennheiser 58x, that is with the suede pads, the aeolus changes quite a bit between the orgininals and the suede pads and without any negatives, in short, they just swing the flavor from warm to less warm. i would recommend the aeolus to anyone who is a big fan of the 58x, havenāt heard the other entry level sens so i can only conceptualize relative to the 58x
Set of Verites to my ears fill the niche of at least two of theseā¦
Looking to get a nice AMP that will pair well with Aeolus when I order one in the future. Iām kind of interested in class A amps and was wondering if something like the singxer would work well with it? Anyone with more experience than me have any input?
Thanks!
With the Universe and Verite pads how would you compare the level of detail from the Aeolus with, say, the DT 1990 Pro? Iām curious just howā¦ underwhelming the technicalities of this headphone are, given all the criticism above and elsewhere.
People like Metal, Zeos, and others online seem to absolutely love this headphone, others seem to think itās incredibly overpriced and not very good at muchā¦
Once again it is the old adageā¦Everybody hears differently. What is good for me may be bad for you. Or in general 7 people may love something and you hate it and vice versa. Aeolus is a damn good headphone for many many people. I use the stock Aeolus pads and for āsomeā music it is simply the best but for other tunes there is better. I do not believe there is a perfect headphone for all music at all so therefore you need more than oneā¦ Some āGREATā headphones sound good on some amps and like shit on others!! Trust your ears not someone elseās.
@granularclouds ā This and I would add Zach being a sound nut has built his cans with a system of pads to tune his wooden beauties AND has provided his - the creatorsā¦sound guide albeit subjective tuning general ideas which to my ears is pretty spot on.
Thanks, I understand this is all subjective. I was still wondering about the technicalities of the Aeolus. The Aeolus interest me very much because of their characterization as being a warm headphone with a lush, natural sound. That is very appealing to me. I was still just kind of wondering about their technicalities.
I own a 6xx and DT 1990 Pro. I was wondering what I would experience that would be new or different coming to the Aeolus from these headphones.
Canāt speak to either of those can Iām afraidā¦campfire Cascades and Focal clears are pretty technical to my ear- if by technical you mean really fine detail - can pick apart the multiple performers and space and detail. The Clears more balanced than Cascade but if you can tame the base the Cascades are fucking detail monstersā¦just frequently overwhelmed by tuning and pads. Either way I would reach for my Aeolus 7/10 with either of those setsā¦
You would reach for your Aeolus seven times out of ten relative to those other two headphones?
How would you compare the technicalities - detail and imaging mainly - between the Clears and the Aeolus? Those are the two headphones Iām currently looking at. Wish it was easier to audition things but unfortunately, nowadaysā¦ Thanks!
- *Yes
You should be very happy with either. Donāt worry about missing out on anything. Try one. If you donāt like it you can make back at least ~85 the value selling here. I would try the Clears as they are a couple benjaminās cheaperā¦if you want smoother and warmer save up or sell off.
It seems from your comments you are eager to try both. Not a bad thing just try to keep to a budget and donāt move to fast through cansā¦this hobby is almost worse than owning a boat and can get pricey.
*SUBJECTIVE- and subject to things like source chain - my current home chain is Gungnir multi-bit/ Mjolnir 2 and a 200 euro set of tubes.
I have Clear MGs on their way from Amazon. Will try out their fit, get a sense of their sound. Will either be returning and buying the Clearās (if the fit is good and I feel Iād prefer a little more sparkle or neutrality), returning and buying the Aeolus (if the fit is bad for me), keeping them (if I fall in love) or returning them and just contenting myself with my current headphones and IEMs (if the fit sucks and I also am unimpressed by the differences in SQ between them and my existing stable).
Definitely looking forwardā¦
Donāt need any more reasons for my wallet to be in pain
Sorry for the late reply - mine took 8 weeks! Youāre probably chilling with yours now - worth the wait right?
