🔶 ZMF Verite

I’ve never heard a VC and I’d consider buying one for a couple of reasons. I love my Eikons and I want a little more detail, instrument separation. Which I think the VC will have given the descriptions from folks who’s ears and descriptions I trust.

I do sense that going to a VC will be less “fun”. It’s an intangible, I know but there are some songs that make the Eikons seem like there’s a well adjusted subwoofer strapped to them. They’re not boomy, they’re not muddy, they’re not gratuitous. But the bass response goes low and is very capable. Going as far as giving you that air pressure feeling a sub can.

Having listened to other headphones I know what I’m missing in terms of detail and clarity, but they’re by no means bad at it, just not what other headphones can deliver.

I want to listen to the VC because knowing my tastes, I could very well stay right with the Eikons if I feel I’m giving up too much with the VC.

Hell, I may ever be able to that that little bit more just by having a more detailed DAC than the Yggy I use now.

If HE6/LCD-3 are “fun”, that’s the kind of fun I want  Can’t say if they sound closer to VO or Eikon, though. Have you tried a Clear? Or not to your taste?

Not tried a Clear, but I’ll be doing some audio shows now that the world is returning to normal. I’m in no rush. There’s a soft spot in my heart for the look and feel of the ZMF cans though.

Yes.

Subjectively … false

Plenty of bass where the chain/source can provide. More balanced than bass beasts like Cascades and Argons but not wanting for shit. Again subjective opinion.

it’s probably the only headphone I’ve owned and sold I’d consider owning again

Pretty high praise.

It’s not an opinion, just a conjecture! I still haven’t listened to them and I want to so bad. I think I am willing to give up a little to gain a little, you know what I mean?

I’d say that Eikons might be more fun sounding than VC but the VC is more enjoyable to me if that makes sense, but YMMV as preferences are different for different people

The Verite is a non-offensive all-rounder that does nothing wrong, but also doesn’t excel in anything.

This is a great point. I ended up selling my Aeolus due to the upper mid glare. I find the VO to be the sweet spot. It’s like it has just the right amount of everything without compromising too much on anything else.

I understand that there are other cans that perform better in a particular attribute, and that’s great. But, there will always be a shiny new pair that comes out and outperforms this other pair in that area too. I try to keep my collection down to a minimum (I don’t see the point of having headphones collecting dust… you can only wear one at a time), and so finding the VO was a treat for me. Now I’ve narrowed my collection down to:

-VO (all-rounder, natural timbre, speed, detail, open-back)
-Sony Z1R (EDM, gaming, movies, closed back isolation)
-HD650 (first mid-fi pair, still love them as a comfy daily)
-MDR-V6 and WH1000XM4 (backup/on-the-go)

I’m proud that I’ve been able to narrow down my “collection” to these few pair that can cover such a wide gamut for me. They may not individually win in any one category, but I’ve come to terms that this is the compromise you have to make if you don’t want to have a wall of headphones like Zeos.

I take the money otherwise spent on cans and use towards a better 2-channel setup. heheh $_$

Of course, I can’t help but still watch headphone reviews and see what comes along. I gave my Argon Mk3’s to my brother, and I’m still super keen on picking up a nice pair of planars at some point. There’s just something about a good pair of planars.
