What do you mean thrives ? Gives the extra power more bass quantity, clarity ,details or something ?
All of the above. The MT-604 is a valve pre-amp, A-Class 2watt headphone amp. It brings out the best in the Timeless. Greater soundstage, separation, resolution, clarity, sweeter treble, all the things you expect tubes to give to your IEMs and headphones. Iām not a reviewer so I shall not attempt to describe it as I wouldnāt do it justice. Suffice it to say, the Timeless sounds better in every respect. I plug my Timeless into the MT-604 just for the joy of listening to it. It sounds fantastic.
I feel a BasX A-100/DT880-600 energy comingā¦
soā¦ nobody notice the release of the shuoer s12 ? the graph look identical to the timeless, at least for bass and mid region. And itās 70 bucks less.
Weāre all waiting for reviews and hands-on impressions. Many of us here are waiting for our sets to arrive in the coming weeks!
It certainly looks similar to what you say based on MRSās measurements, but we wonāt know for certain until itās āin the wildā, so to speak.
Jup. Itās even got itās own thread.
I donāt remember where it was mentioned but it was already pointed out (maybe here, maybe in the ārumors and releasesā thread or in BGGARās or Rikudou_Gokuās thread)ā¦
Got my pair. Within first 10-15 minutes (no tip rolling, burn-in, or higher power sources) Iām split between these two bullet points:
-
Imaging and separation are next level
-
Whatās being separated has an odd timbre (a taste of the āplanar timbreā Iām assuming. It doesnāt sound natural to me and Iām not a fan. From bass upward.
I like the overall choices in the FR/tuning. Maybe itās a planar thing. This is why Iām at least slightly considering spending s lot on something like the dark magician, or other pricier single DD. The Serial is a great triple DD but I notice it pulling away in cases where it counts for me, like texture and details of bass guitar.
In my honest opinion, I feel that folks should start the planar experience from headphones, not from IEM versions of planar drivers. As much as planar IEMs are improving, the diaphragm of planar just simply needs a big plane. Iām really skeptical that planar can sound natural on its own in IEM shells without extensive tuning.
On that note, Iām very interested to read your thoughts on the Shuoer S12 when you get it, given that itās supposed to have the same Driver as the Timeless inside.
What planar Headphones do you own?
HE400se
Base level yet beautiful
Same, got the HE400se as well. Lovely cans and an absolute price to performance beast.
Iāll be happy to share thoughts on S12, but we probably will benefit best from folks whoās got both Timeless and S12 to do a comparison
Is that short impression on S12 already?
Iād rank the 7Hz Timeless ahead of the HE400SE, Iād put it closer to the Edition XS or Ananda I think. HE400SE is really excellent for the very low price they ask for it but itās relatively veiled and congested sounding relative to higher Hifimans, but I think also the Timeless. I wouldnāt say this of the HE400SE relative to its pricepoint, itās great at itās pricepoint. The Timeless is just perhaps even better at its one. I wouldnāt call it veiled and congested in isolation either, only relatively when directly compared to the higher end Hifimansā¦ or the Timeless.
Timeless is more airy, deeper bass, clearer with more detail, at least equal and probably better separation and layering too. Part of this is the more V shaped tuning, HE400SE is tuned more neutrally. But I wouldnāt agree the HE400SE is superior to the Timeless just because itās an overear. I have the Chinese HE400SE (non-stealth magnet).
My BTR5 also seems like way more power than I would ever need.
In what was a surprise to me, they actually run ok without an amp. I miss the headroom, and they donāt sound as good, but they have decent volume and sound pretty good.
No, to the main thread on 7Hz Timeless, I see now that it was just after a comment about the S12.
Further updates on itā¦ timbre is good, I just think itās in an uncanny valley of sounds not having dynamic follow-through of air hitting the eardrum. So the sounds produced are accurate, good sounds ā but theyāre not physically interacting with my ear enough, I feel a little left out of what Iām listening to.
Overall very good though. Iāve been trying with ZX300 as my player, on high gain (but not balanced, donāt have balanced MMCX cable only 2 pin)
Itās like when bass is lacking in slam, but for all frequencies. Arriving at the ear unannounced.
Sounds about right for a tiny planar diaphragm. As @PopinTeddy mentioned, if you get a chance, try a full sized planar headphone. I definitely feel rumble and slam through my Sundara, and thatās not even supposed to be a bassy set. Itās just the sheer form factor - over-ear open-back planar HP sound good to me, in terms of tonality and note-weight.
Hopefully your brain will burn-in and youāll enjoy the planar IEM sound! If not, you can always flip it and buy a Sundara
Lets hope mine gets delivered this week
Theyāve arrived yesterday. Iām impressed. On a technical level, I think they definitely outperform my Sundaras. To my ears, the soundstage is similarly wide, 7hz lack verticality, but have
about the same depth; imaging is definitely above average for an iem; instrument separation is justā¦ dunno, the efortless way in which they dissect complex music is kinda insane. Tonality is not as good as on Sundara but EQ is my best friend, and they respond beautifully to it, so no issue there. Also, interestingly, they give the illusion of having a warm and dark sound, probably due to the silky smoothness of their highs, everything sounds non-intrusive yet incredibly detailed.
Iām in love with these things.
As an only con, they have the same problem as all planars I tried so far, I think the timbre is a bit flavourless, āgrayā?
Did you end up buying S12 finally as well?
Mine tracking is dead or fake, even on official Yanwen (shipping company) website it is not existing, universalparceltracker also cannot find it. Only 17-in-one can find given number, but it stops shortly after initial processing information
