đŸ”¶ 7HZ Timeless Planar

do you experience hissing with the hip dac high gain mode ?

I generally listen to the Timeless via my FiiO M9 DAP on 2.5mm Balanced with High Gain ( and Balanced Boost) with no observable hiss. Equally, I find no hiss when attached to the Hip DAC when using either the M9 as a source or when using my Samsung A50 & USB Audio Player Pro. Just a greater all-around sound. Planars LOVE power. As an analogy, you can make a Ferrari do 100mph in 3rd gear, but it does it so much better in 5th. Some headphones and speakers just run better with a greater heft of power behind them.

yo i’d take those off your hands if still available i love collecting tips >: )

The FiiO M9’s 220mW power enough for the Timeless ?

OP’s not replied yet but @ttorbic has first refusal I’m afraid.

I have a random collection of spare tips. I’ll DM you

I would say so, yes, easily. It may be harder to drive than many IEMs but it’s still an IEM. It has an impedance of 14.8 ohms and sensitivity of 104dB/V which is 89db/mW.

The Qudelix 5K (max 4V / 240mW) quotes voltage on the volume screen, at 50mV / 0.17mW I calculate it’s at 81dB and it seems loud. That’s almost 1,500 times lower power than the max. I couldn’t go remotely near that without blowing my ears out. So I suspect 220mW would also be fine.

Regarding the hissing, I haven’t tried on a HipDAC but I doubt you’d get hissing with these. You typically get hissing with very sensitive IEMs and these aren’t sensitive, they are quite hard to drive.

I mean what you’re saying is that it doesn’t make much sense to buy an amp with 1200mW out, because it won’t sound any better the Timeless.

My desktop amp is 1.5W, but I use them on the Quedelix or BTR5, both of which are 240mW. They’d be fine on a 1.2W amp as well, but you wouldn’t need that or be using anywhere near the max. They are fine on the Quedelix or BTR5 which have similar max power to the Fiio M9 you mentioned, 240 vs 220 makes no significant difference; I’m nowhere remotely near the max power on it. I think these are the sort of IEM you sort of do need an amp for, more than most IEMs. They don’t sound as good out of my laptop. But portable amps with 220mW should be more than enough.

I’m not a techie but my Timeless
chain DX312 > MT-604 (MT-604 maxed out and use the DAP as a pot) both the og P1’s and Timeless suck up a lot :zap:without getting exponentially louder just “better” not like say Andro’s and other low impedance BA set’s so :man_shrugging:

“if we put the shit on the shelf there won’t be any jam yet”
Happy new year guys !

So far my experience with the Timeless has been indifferent to source. Playing between the JDS Labs Element II from my desktop, from the BTR5 and direct from my phone (Motorola X4) it’s the same. If I had to pick the Bass is a hair more controlled in the Element, but is so small of a difference that may be Placebo.

Edit: autocorrect changed some word to Portuguese, sorry.

The M9 drives it with plenty of headroom. I concur with @Ohmboy , the Timeless thrives on my Topping EX5 > MT-604 set-up, with the 604 at full throttle, and the EX5 as a control unit.

The Ifi Hip DAC drives the Timeless effortlessly, it’s a joy to listen to.

What do you mean thrives ? Gives the extra power more bass quantity, clarity ,details or something ?

All of the above. The MT-604 is a valve pre-amp, A-Class 2watt headphone amp. It brings out the best in the Timeless. Greater soundstage, separation, resolution, clarity, sweeter treble, all the things you expect tubes to give to your IEMs and headphones. I’m not a reviewer so I shall not attempt to describe it as I wouldn’t do it justice. Suffice it to say, the Timeless sounds better in every respect. I plug my Timeless into the MT-604 just for the joy of listening to it. It sounds fantastic.

I feel a BasX A-100/DT880-600 energy coming

so
nobody notice the release of the shuoer s12 ? the graph look identical to the timeless, at least for bass and mid region. And it’s 70 bucks less.

We’re all waiting for reviews and hands-on impressions. Many of us here are waiting for our sets to arrive in the coming weeks!
It certainly looks similar to what you say based on MRS’s measurements, but we won’t know for certain until it’s “in the wild”, so to speak.

Jup. It’s even got it’s own thread.

I don’t remember where it was mentioned but it was already pointed out (maybe here, maybe in the “rumors and releases” thread or in BGGAR’s or Rikudou_Goku’s thread)

Got my pair. Within first 10-15 minutes (no tip rolling, burn-in, or higher power sources) I’m split between these two bullet points:

  • Imaging and separation are next level

  • What’s being separated has an odd timbre (a taste of the “planar timbre” I’m assuming. It doesn’t sound natural to me and I’m not a fan. From bass upward.

I like the overall choices in the FR/tuning. Maybe it’s a planar thing. This is why I’m at least slightly considering spending s lot on something like the dark magician, or other pricier single DD. The Serial is a great triple DD but I notice it pulling away in cases where it counts for me, like texture and details of bass guitar.
