Well im looking on their web site and i see a 800 series. priced at 1500$ i woul assume those are better than these. maybe even… the best?

The 1990 does the better job at that imo. Do you have an an amp already, of are you looking to buy an amp dac setup?

I was thinking something like a jds labs atom and a topping d10 stack would offer large bang for buck and upgradability in the future

Well best performance is quite expensive, so let’s go for performance under 1k. The Rupert neve rnhp and smsl su8 would be my pick for your use case imo.

Bang for the buck would be like the stack I mentioned above or something like the fiio k5 pro.

Something in between the bang for the buck and top tier performance might be the enog 2 pro and archel 2.5 pro stack, which is pretty sweet imo

Personally no not for the 1990 since you can’t take advantage of balanced, the zen dac isn’t the best using single ended, I think the fiio k5 pro would be a better choice in this situation if you wanted a more budget all in one
