We will just have to see as more people get them in their possession
And if the material and sound quality are on point thenâŠwell you now Iâm gonna hi Jack that hype train!
Hello there, I just started in audio and I will make a trip to Europe in the end of the month and get me a new headphone. I recently bought the Tin T2 and couldnât be more happy with then, they sound amazing, and now I want a good set of Open cans for my home desk.
I was thinking in getting the AKG K712. Comfort is as important as sound for me and these look REALLY comfortable. My main problem is I donât have any equipment right now, I will probably get a dac/amp next month. Therefore, I would only be able to power it from my phone and PC. Do you guys thinks this is a problem? Should I reevaluate and maybe buy something else? (also, any dac/amp combo or pairing for them is appreciated)
The AKG K712 are currently 199 EUR, and I donât want to go any more expensive than that.
You should be able to use it off of a phone or PC for the time being, but a dac and amp would help it for sure
You could get something like the fiio K5 pro and be set
Thanks for the comments. My original idea was to get a FX-DAC X6 and after a Liquid Spark or a Atom, but the K5 pro also seems interesting, more yet since I intend to have powered monitors.
Yeah, itâs a great price as well, very good for bang for the buck
I have the AKG k702 and the k712. I need some help! The k702 have more bass than the k712 which I found really weird. I had the k702 first and thought that it would be better if it have a little more bass. That is when I decide to buy the k712. Any opinion on this?
What amp are you using? The k712 is a bit more balanced so it might have a bit less quantity but better quality bass
Liquid spark. Yes the bass is tight and less intrusive. The k702 bass sounds huge on the cups
Yes, the 712 is tuned to be more balanced, so that would mean less boosted bass. Perhaps you could use an eq to get it to a level you prefer
Hello, I bought a K712 and have been using it on my desk for the past two weeks. My FX-DAC X6 is still on the way, so my impressions so far are using my Moto X4 headphone jack and MSI mobo output.
TLDR: they are amazing for instrumental music and gaming, but I wouldnât recommend them for EDM and other electro music, and also if you listen to a lot of acapella stuff they may sound weird.
They are very comfortable, like really incredibly comfortable. I have a medium-size head (I think), and medium to small ears (about 3 knuckle). And they cover my ear completely, fits right without touching my ear, and with the nice clamp that doesnât hurt. My only point with comfort is that the pads a little hot for me, but since I live in Brazil most over-ear (and especially velour pads) give this feeling. Still, I can use then for hours and Iâm perfectly ok without taking them off.
The sound is overall very good. I like the tonality of them, especially in the mid-high/high, as strings and metals sound incredible in them. I havenât EQed them yet, but I think they will at most have a small correction in midâs, as they do sound a little recessed. Still, I will wait for an amp before doing this.
What impressed me is how they deliver music, and I think this is their main strong point as well as their main flaw. The soundstage, correct me if Iâm wrong, is wide but not overly so. When you listen to music in them, you feel like you are in a recording room listening with every instrument. You can hear and pinpoint where the instruments are playing, and hear every one of them separately.
And while this is great for classical, jazz and other instrumental music, this makes certain songs bad for me. I love Pentatonix and hear them a lot, but the feeling I got when listening to their music with this headphone is very strange. It is like you have to look all around to hear them properly, and it makes little hard to concentrate in more than one voice at a time. I invite anyone who owns one o these to listen to âBohemian Rapsodyâ, especially the Pentatonix version, and be mind blown by the experience of having multiple voices coming from different directions. And also with some electronic music, when many different symbols and effects are going on, the âdirectionalityâ of them either makes weird or, if they are not directional, make them a âsurround youâ effect that I donât like.
Thatâs my experience so far if anything changes with the amp I will update in here or in another post. Hoping to hear any suggestions, opinions or anything more on this amazing sounding headphone. I will 100% keep them, and I really like them. I just maybe will need other headphone(s) for some genres.
Nice, the amp should improve them as well, curious to see how you feel with an amp and dac
Damn, I had a chance to get them on sale and I skipped it.
These must represent one of the best price - performance propositions in headphones now. At one time they were pretty expensive, now in our market the typical selling price seems to be ÂŁ170 - 190. For that price you get a superb pair of headphones which despite feeling low rent are actually very well made. The sound signature is the best of any AKG in my experience, they are on the fun side of neutral with good bass but not overly coloured and with amazing sound stage. And so comfortable, very light clamping force and quite lightweight, you wouldnât jog in them but theyâre stable enough for home use.
yep you EU boys are lucky gettinga decent price on them. competes with the massdorp lineup. I really like this headphone. I wish It would drop in price in canada. I really want to add them in my collection as a AKG fan
Pretty much not a reason to consider the 7xx lol, the 7xx is nowhere near as good as the 712
