This guy does an OK Eroica, or so I have heard.
This is a reminder of how often I have to choose between a conductorās unique interpretation, the orchestraās performance (particularly intonation and my sense of their enthusiasm, often palpable in a live performance) and the quality of the recording. Itās interesting to me how varied our ultimate āfavoriteā version can be!

PS Iāve played it twiceā¦Timpaniā¦FUN and EXCITING!!!
I had 5 versions on my list but 2 were not UHD. Iām on a UHD kick. One of those was the Telarc version, which was the first one I ever heard. I donāt remember what the other one was.
I think my favorite is the Previn one from 1974.
Yes I plan to ck your list furtherā¦the one I posted is not uhd, but an old favorite.
The more time I spend with good gear the more I favor 24/96 or 192. Like cables, there IS a difference!
I remember the first time I heard a Telarc sample disc through my Klipsch KG4ās.
A wow moment.
Not new to me, but spent time with Michael Gielenās Mahler cycle tonight. No details get lost in these recordings. Excellent, imo.
The initial horns entrance is gorgeous!!
Iām a sucker for solo Da Gamba recordings, love being able to browse Apple Music Classical by instrument, adding this as a new reference album. They also have a book feature where you can open and get insight on the recording, excellent iPad companion.
Seems I had a craving for classical tonight, so I took out one from the collection, one of my favorites.
Her work with the London Philharmonic on this recording is just epic. The Pula PA02/SH-9 pairing is doing a fine job with the presentation as well.
Still in the classical vibe. I have a pot of special Christmas blend tea going and have shifted focus from strings to the wind instruments. Found a good one on AMHD
Itās a good morning indeed.
Truly reference quality, im on the hunt today, finding some gems on Apple Music Classicalā¦
Suddenly I have a craving for classical. Gonna dip into the collection once again! This an amazing record.
I am enjoying the performance on the Chopin/TA-20 pairing tonight. Great little set.

My composer friend sent me this. Thought Iād pass it along. The Ortiz piece
is very interesting, and well recorded of course.
Ah, another rainy Saturday. Of course this means a classical Saturday morning! Had to whip out the Bernstein!
Kath is out on her weekly re-supply mission, so I get to play with the big system in the living room for a couple of hours! Just awesome. This RAW-MDA1 is just crushing it out here. I feel like Iām in the concert hall.
While I enjoy the music, I have a Moto2 race on, rewatching the Silverstone round. There is a certain poetry to watching these guys compete to a beautiful musical score!
Iām revisiting this superb Live recording tonight. From Berlioz, the guy who literally wrote the book on orchestration (in 1844.) The dynamic range is stunning, from the barely audible beginning of the 3rd movement to the ear opening last movement complete with real bells, a killer bass drum and more.
Great separation of instruments and detail throughout, and the ever present energy that Dudamel seems to always provide. Really imo a stunning performance and recording.
Wish I had been thereā¦ must be quite the venue!
Iām going to have to check this out later. Thanks for sharing.
