Hello everybody!
Here I am again.
Some time ago, like a year? IDK, I made a topic here to buy some headphone.
I bought, thanks to the forum’s suggestions, some Audiquest Nighthawk Carbon. And I am really happy with them. Them fits really my taste. Them are enough audiophile for me and for my gear… Actually I use Spotify and an Hidizs Sonata. Maybe some of you audiophile are already hating but well… them do the job pretty good! I don’t feel I’m actually missing something for what I need: enough definition, a nice equalization fitting my taste, even a pretty nice imaging and soundstage.
That to say that I actually consider then my “audiophile headphone”.
I have also some Bose QC 35 II, them are my on-the-go/bluetooth/ANC headphone, but the sounds kinda sucks. I mean, I like them but I keep them just beacause them are comfortable as hell and have bluetooth.
Now I’m starting to think that I actually do miss something. When I use my Audioquest to listen to some Pop/Trap/EDM music, it sounds good, but I need more BAAASSS. Obviously I can’t find a “audiophile can” than can sound as I wish, because the sound signature I want can’t be considered high fidelity. When I listen to some Trap and stuff like that I miss some headphone that can be even less defined but way more fun. I want some serious sub bass headphone. Because even my Bose when I want to listen to some easy music, sounds so swollen, boomy, IDK how to describe it. I want a tight and powerful sub bass, I hate boomy bass.
Sooo! What can you suggest to me?
If I writed too much and I just confused you, I need:
-Bass heavy/tight/v shaped/funny listening headphone.
-Comfortable.
-Don’t need to be too refined or “audiophile”
-Not too “sss” sounding. I hate it. That’s why I also like my Audioquest, them are sooo fatigue free.
-Not really expensive. Not because I’m poor (even if
actually I am, lol) but because I don’t think I need to spend a lot of money for what I am looking for. But if you have a great pair of cans in your mind that could fit my taste and are expensive, write them down anyway and we’ll think about it.
I have some opinions but I want to know yours.
Thanks you a lot bros.
Peace.
I mean, personally I think it would be worthwhile to get a nice amp for the Hawks, the bass comes alive when you give it enough juice, you can use the sonata as a dac for one. The hawks have really great bass from my experience when you give them more power. The sonata is nice, but it really doesn’t have much drive as a dedicated amp does, and I think even if you did get a different headphone, you would still end up wanting to grab a nice amp for it as well, so you might as well try an amp on what you already have, which would improve it imo, and then you can be more open to other options for different cans too
Yes Mon is right, what kind of amplifier do you use?
Do you have one in use at all?
I have already read that the Nighthawk can be equipped with other pads, apparently the Shurepads should be very good with it.
So a small investment in other pads may be worth more than a new headphone.
The Denon D7200 may be too expensive for you and you might not like the bloated bass.
Since you still have the V-shaped gennat there are actually only Fostex that offer this.
So you may find a used Fostex Tr x00 Purpelheart or Ebony, which you can no longer buy new.
The Th 610 I would not take if the E-mu teak because it is better tuned.
An alternative would be to find a used Denon D2000 and screw it up in rosewood cups.Possibly another Lawton mod level 1.If you can trust that.
If not, use the E-Mu teak.
Spintan the Audiotechnica listeners come to mind but I don’t know exactly how they are.
I would go step by step. If there is no amplifier then start first, then the pads from the Nighthawk. If none of this worked, let the headphones come in and test them if possible.
but I really like my setup. Is there any all-in-one system with Spotify at that point?
So I can use “this thing wich I wish exist that is a DAC and has Spotify player”+“my Audioquest”?
The hiby r5 has plenty of power, although you would want to get a balanced cable for the hawks. The fiio m11 is also pretty solid, but I somewhat prefer the hiby in this case for the headphones it has
@Deleeh yes I have only the Hidizs.
And your options I think are great but idk… I think it’s too much for what I’m looking for. And also I’m not really into used headphones, Purpelheart would have been a really nice choiche but in my country them are unfindable (I already looked for them in the past).
@M0N tbh I really want an easy setup, if I have to buy cables, pads and bla bla bla it becomes hard. I understand if you don’t feel me but please try to, lol. I really like to keep it simple. That’s why I’m still stuck with my Hidizs.
I know as well it doesn’t give to my Audioquest the power them need, I can feel it, but I always ignored that… I think it might be time to change my mind. That said, I’d really like to find a compromise. Something simple.
Do you think the Hiby r5 is the main choiche? What would be the difference with the Fiio m11? And is there any other choice I should consider? In the past you already suggested me some DAC, which should I consider? Is there any benefit either chosing a DAC or a DAP? It seems to me that a DAP is more expensive due to screen and stuff, but I would choose a DAP over a DAC for it simplicity, is there any reason I should go otherwise, which I don’t know because if I knew I were not in a forum asking for suggestions:)?
And also, if I buy the Hiby, is really THAT important to go balanced?
So I do think the r5 is a frontrunner with the power it has and also the fact that it has a fair bit of features without breaking the bank, I think it pairs well with the nighthawks.
A dac amp combo is most likely a better value and more futureproof, but that being said if you want simplicity a dap is pretty simple
If you want to get the performance of the hiby then yeah
Well, with the Dac you’re almost bound.
Depending on what you take, the necessary power is there.
As a source you just need a PC, laptop, smartphone, CD player, network player.
Then there are mobile Dacs that mostly run on battery and also need a source.
The Dap is more flexible and also mobile.
The source is your dap.
And I looked at the hiby; I don’t have it but what it can do is promising.
And he doesn’t skimp on performance either, he seems to me to be a good one for the field and I would consider it myself now.
I mean try it if you don’t like it you can still send it back.
Because of the headphones because you had the Purpelheart in focus, then I would recommend the E-Mu teak to you if the times are better.
The advantage is that you can optionally buy the cups to change the signature.
But start with the hiby if you like what that concerns.
I also think that it fits your requirements well.
Mon was already looking for something great for you
At Fiio I don’t know, I didn’t watch it. I don’t know if the ibasso D160 would fit. I keep reading about software problems, or updates that come and then new devices come and the old ones are no longer updated, but I know not if it’s true, if so Fiio and Hiby are better in something.
I’m considering it, it’s my b-day in a month, maybe I could use that excuse…
Just because I like multiple options, I’m already looking by myself but again, can any of you suggest me anything like the Hiby? I like the fact that it has full Android and in the past I gave up on another DAP just because it had not Play Store. Again for me the user experience and simplicity is really important.
So if anyone has another suggestion I’ll listen.
Or if you already know the market and tell me that in that price and for that use the Hiby is the one to go, I’ll go for that.
I’ll look some videos and inform me about it and I’ll also look for a balanced cable. And in general to understan things better. And in a few weeks I could buy that.
That said… I think I still want another pair of headphone just because… C’mon guys don’t tell me you have one pair. But I’m really looking for a <250/300$ CLOSED this time. I forgot to mention that in the beggining. Even if you suggested me only closed ones. Sorry dudes. And thanks, I appreciate it.
Edit: those 3 you mentioned (Fiio, Hiby and iBasso) seems the choiches, looking on internet, so I’ll go with the Hiby.
So now I need a balanced 4.4mm cable for my Audioquest. The link you sent me is not avaiable in my country.
Is this an original cable?
And balanced cables are always 4.4mm or not? I’m really new into this thing.
Guys:) please:) I don’t know where to buy a balanced cable. I understood that is the same of the Hifiman He400: 2x2.5mm to 4.4mm but I can’t find literally anything, at least in my country. Only trash.
And the brand you told me (Heart Audio), I can’t find it.
Any suggestion? I’ll pay what it has to be, but I don’t want a trash cable. Thanks.
