You just basically just have to take it apart, stick a few things here and there and assemble it back together.
I’m still wondering if any of you have a good idea for this.
You might be able to use some leather cleaning supplies that are not harsh. Or perhaps some gentle baby wipes. As long as it is not a harsh chemical, I think you should be okay, although others on here have a lot more experience doing this than I do, and if they say something different, I would listen to them.
I think a mild soap in warm water on a soft cloth would be sufficient to wipe these down and clean them up
Good idea, thanks!
I just ordered the Lawton tune-up, and will order an atom and ol dac tomorrow. I hope it’s going to be a big leap compared to my syba sonic.
I would say x00 ebony if you can find them for like 300. i was very happy with their sound for that price
I’ve already got a Mahogany, but I’ll make sure to get either an emu teak or ebony cup in the future.
I’m still not sure if that’s the only difference between the versions, though.
ive herad the mahogany and ebony at different times. i didnt like the mahogany outside of the bass region too much but ebony has a deeper bass and better mids imo
Terrible, then I stuffed a bunch of cotton in there and it’s interesting now.
Just to throw out an update regarding my progression.
My JDS Atom + engraved OL dac combo arrived last week, so I was finally able to put the X00 to use.
The atom was an insane upgrade from the Syba Sonic, and I very much like the X00 too, it was spot on as a recommendation, thanks for that.
I’ve also decided to give the ebony cup a try, so I ordered a pair from E-MU a few hours ago, and I’m still waiting for my Lawton tune-up kit. I’m curious how much of a difference they will make.
There’s just one thing that’s been bugging me the whole time, and I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly it was, until today. Even though my setup brought the quality I expected I still couldn’t find the immersion I was looking for, it wasn’t as pleasant as I thought it would be. It’s funny how long it took me to realise what caused this. There’s a subtle, but very irritating imbalance between my left and right channels. I assume it’s on the Atom, but I don’t have a quarter inch adapter to test it with my other headphones, so I can’t be sure atm. I don’t have the most trained ear you can find, but I used a sinus generator and it seems like the difference wildly varies in different frequencies. Anyway, as soon as I lowered the overall volume of the louder side in an EQ it immediately became much more pleasurable to my ears, especially when I play my music loud.
Have your tune up yet? I am waiting on my kit and was curious how you found it.
It’s been in transit for two weeks, and it still hasn’t even arrived in the EU. I don’t think it will arrive this month, unfortunately.
There is another thread that talks about each of the existing Biodyna Closed-Back headphones, but it’s 1000+ replies long. In particular, I kept getting lost in the sauce about earcup mods and earpad mods.
Long story short, after reading this thread, I’m going to be upgrading my Yamaha HPH-MT5s with the TH-X00 Mahoganies. If the listing I found goes down, then I’ll just buy the Emu Teaks.
Either way, I thank you for sharing your experience with the Mahoganies. My only point of concern are the highs you mention, but I’m sure there’s an ear pad that can solve that issue.
Used/open-box Audeze Mobius.
Used Vokyl Erupt + Dekoni pads.
DT880 / 300 R
Used LCD-1
Man, i really like Beyerdynamic, but i dislike the dt770 due to the recessed mids.
My personal ranking (which is always subjective) in this price range of actual or sold closed backs is:
B&O H6 2nd gen
Akg K371 / Meze 99 Classic
Sony MDR 1A
Dt 250 (80 Ohm)
Dt 770 pro
M50x
Beyerdynamic Custom Studio
I’m a big fan of the DT770. One quality that’s not mentioned enough is their fantastic noise isolation, which in my view is sufficient to obviate the need for active noise cancellation tech. I’m pretty sure I could wear them on a gun range and be fine. I’ve also lugged them to noisy places like coffee shops, and the whole world goes away.
How’s the sound? Fine. Not as good as the DT880/800, or my Sennheiser HD600 and HD650, but really good. A bit too “fun” for classical, but perfect for rock.
Also remember that there the DT770s come in different ohm variants, each of which might have a different signature.
Fostex T40RP could be a good alternative closed back.
