šŸ”¶ Audeze LCD-1

I donā€™t think he eqā€™ed them very much. He definitely has a preferred sound, but so do I. I think he has a good ear for sure. I am planning on buying a pair based on his recommendation.

I am not very interested in the Sendy, Sundara, M570, etc. I have basically decided that I am not going to support Chinese audio companies if I can help it (at least in the mid-fi/high-end bracket). Just a personal decision.

what year did it come out never heard of it?

2009 I believe, they were pretty good, but I havenā€™t heard them in a while lol. Would rather take a lcd2.2 tho lol

Audeze is starting to ship out orders I just got an email for mine.

Nice, I also recently heard that my friends going to get his soon, so I am curious to see when it gets here

Yep, 2009 is what I heard too. Apparently, they were more a proof of concept than a real production item. Apparently, they had an idea for the driver tech and stuffed that into an existing shell and made 40 all together. When that was received favourably and they got feedback they started actual production with the original LCD-2. Not sure why they decided on Lowest Common Denominator as the series name, however.

Yeah someone I know is a huge audeze fan and owns a pair. I have no idea how he got it lol. He owns more audeze then anyone I know

Headphones is a fairly recent thing for me, before that I was deeply immersed in photography for many years. I had a rule for myself never to buy a new camera model until it had been on store shelves for at least six months. Many photographers did this. The percentage of camera models that had first-batch production issues, was quite significant. Essentially, you were paying to beta-test their assembly line set-up.

Is there no such penalty associated with buying hot-off-the-press new headphone models? Not talking about pricing issues, nor even Audezeā€™s reputation for endless silent revisions. But for manufacturers in general donā€™t fixes or tweaks tend to get applied to subsequent batches?

Well there is lol, but I didnā€™t buy it, my friend did Itā€™s like how people play beta games, or early adopters for tech. You just weigh the risk associated and see if you want to bite. Personally I donā€™t really buy blind anymore, but a fair amount of people I know do

since Sony puts out a new camera out every 6 months and the ā€œoldā€ one gets cheaper, this is a good strategy - I did it the same for all my Canons 5D 2 / III / IV / M50 and Fuji XT2
yes early adopters play beta testers and instead of doing firmware upgradesā€¦ Sony brings out a new Camera with other problems
Fuji is the best for longterm firmware updates bringing even new features to many year old cameras
Canon nearly the same
Nikon not so and wants sometimes some cash for updates - weak politic

since many people donĀ“t have good sorted audio shops in reach - I believe most people buy blind
I live in munich, so I can get my hands on most stuff and the munich high end show is a big one and growing - not that I would critical audition stuff at a show, but you get a first impression, can sniff it

being sound is subjectiveā€¦youā€™re always buying blindā€¦even if you have a chance to sample, as thatā€™s only a sample and not conclusive.

Absolutely true, but I do like to get a sample before I buy to check lol

Also another thing regarding early adopters, is that perhaps the sound or other aspect of a headphone might change later on in the production so people who buy right away might want to make sure they have a model with the sound they like

wellā€¦again, that can happen and you would still have no control over it. you could buy now and a few months later a rev 2 comes out.

on the flip side, not being an early adopter means you usually avoid the growing pains of a new product. buying later in the cycle means you likely will get a good unit once all the QC issues have been flushed out of the manufacturing line.

True true, but imo that applies more to computers and tech rather then headphones and speakers imo

Since this is the LCD-1 thread, do we have any anecdotal knowledge how much/little risk of both physical production issues and sound revisions an early adopter is taking for this particular model? The Mobius seems like the most relevant comparison in one way, but it has a lot of internal electronics that the LCD-1 does not have.

Well for audeze they do have revisions, but imo I would say itā€™s a safe buy if you use them in normal conditions

I donā€™t feel that I would be concerned as audeze warranty and support is pretty good imo (in the us at least)

When did you place your order?

Update: mine shipped today! Order placed 10/24.

just tried ordering them twice, but it got cancelled immediately and flagged for fraud on their website. I contacted support, but I might just have to wait for general availability from a better website >_>
