The sound is pretty unique, yet really good for the price. Use biodynamic Drivers.

Itâs like you are put in a giant room, auditorium almost, or large club, and the sounds are coming from the side, forward, behind, and above to a a small extent. Thatâs the only way I can describe it. I wouldnât say the imaging is inaccurate, but it is unique in that way.

Hmm. Yeah that sounds really cool, but Iâve heard people say that about other headphones before though, so is the nighthawks imaging really different enough from other headphones with âholographic imagingâ?
Although, the only thing really holding me back is the tuning.
The tuning and presentation is what makes them desirable lol

Yeah I get that. So Iâm in for the presentation but the tuning being dark is making me a bit cautious. Lol. 50 - 50?
Iâm sort of tempted just to order one in to listen and decide if I want to keep them, but does music direct have that sort of return policy ?

Yeah I did that with headphones when I was looking for the next pair I wanted to get.
Lol, will probably give myself another week or so to think about it. At least if I get them in February I wonât kill myself with this many purchases in a month. Lol.
Truth is, I was eyeing the obravo cupids , and when the nighthawks came up I kinda felt like oh, a headphone version of those. Lol
Audioquest demonstrated that designing a headphone (or indeed a speaker) is part engineering/science and part art. The sound signature would probably be dismissed by those who just look at measurements and frequency response lines. I am a firm believer in the importance of measurement and applying good engineering practice but measurements in themselves donât tell you whether you will enjoy a headphone, and just because someone else advocates a frequency response curve doesnât mean it is ârightâ. Nowadays it seems a culture of venerating the Harman curve has resulted in a situation where that is the 'right" sound and a headphone not designed around it is a bad design. To be clear, if you enjoy the sound of a headphone designed around that curve then it is right for you. But it is a personal preference and no more right or wrong than deciding you donât like it. Following the herd is an easy way to appeal to the most but Audioquest did something different and I applaud them for it. I think they do replicate a speaker sound more than a conventional headphone sound. Hugely enjoyable.

PSA: The NewFantasia cable is only 3 wires after the split. I attempted to salvage the original 3.5mm connector thinking it was a screw type, but alas it was not and I completely jacked it up (no pun intended). So change of plan, I snipped off the two 2.5mm cables a little above the split, and made a new, ghetto cable with some Mogami that I had and a TRRS connector.
So, as promised, here is the ugly DIY cable with a homemade 3.5mm to XLR adapter. Sound comes out and nothing is on fire yet. Soldering skills need to level up.
Edit: On the plus side, I did manage to salvage the NewFantasia spring. I plan to make a better cable when my AliExpress stuff comes in.
