A carbon or OG?

I would go for the Carbon personally.
I think they are 250USD on Amazon brand new, and 200USD new on another website, possibly musicdirect.

That is if he is in the US

Ah true. International prices for them seem all over the place.

They seem hard to get here (Spain). What I saw are a pair used in eBay Germany, and I think they are the original. The only place I have seen them new is at Zococity and they are asking 600, so thatā€™s a no noā€¦

I think I am gonna pass, in the last two months I got an Fiio m9, a few iems, a Smsl su8, sp200, Meze 99 noir, Dt1990 and still waiting for my He4xx. So, yesā€¦ I will try and be good, see how long it lastsā€¦:grinning:

Wow thatā€™s pretty expensive. Yeah I would hold off on them for that price.
Seems like you already have a great setup. Happy listening!

Just got my Carbons yesterday. SO comfortable! The soundstage and imaging is really great. Fun and enjoyable to listen with. Best $200 spent in a while!

Thatā€™s awesome! Glad you like them. Enjoy!

So I have a pair of Carbonsā€¦ am I in the gang if I am just not at all sure about these dang things? They win on comfort. After that , I have little clarity on them.

Well you own them, thatā€™s good enough, although they are iffy for some people for sure

Has anyone done modding on them here? Curious as when I was looking up pics of the driver I seen some headfi articles and pics showing some micropore tape in the cups etc. They are already so low on distortion I dont really know how that would help personally lol. I didnā€™t read the cancer that was spoken there btw just seen the pics.

Maybe Sell them to one of the guys who wants them but is having trouble getting them. Just a thought, no need to hold onto something that doesnā€™t give you joy. Enjoyment of sound quality seems extremely subjective, if these donā€™t do it for you let them go.

Not sure about mods. It would be interesting to try different pads on them that are fairly similar in shape, if you can figure out a way to attach them that doesnā€™t void the warranty.

It is a consideration, but my ā€œconfusionā€ about them doesnā€™t quite resolve to ā€œlet them goā€ yet. Alsoā€¦ the Musicianā€™s Friend price right now is less than I paidā€¦

How long have you had them? Have you tried both pad sets for a while?

As I compare these to my DT 177X after a day, I think the sound feels fuller than the Beyers. They manage to fill the midrange with an incredible presence without becoming muddy or confused. The drivers maintain excellent clarity throughout the frequencies. Listening to Beethovenā€™s Symphonies 5&6 ā€œPastorale,ā€ the sound feels like I am in directly in front of the orchestra and I am enveloped in the music. The DT 177X seems much more analytical (no surprise there) and removed from the performance. In comparison, the bumped mids and excellent resolution in the Nighthawks gives a natural energy to the music that makes the DT177X feel a bit thin.

They are pretty sweet. Yeah the 177x is great for what it is, but the mids arenā€™t as good as some other things. But these are pretty great!

Do you guys ever create playlists specifically for a set of headphones? Like hand-picked songs that youā€™ve listened to that sound exceptional on the Nighthawks? I think it would be really cool if we created a collaborative playlist on Spotify that all of us could add to. No limits on genre, just picked for how they sound on a set of headphones. Iā€™m not sure if any other streaming service offers that collaborative feature, Spotify is what I have experience with and it works really well. Iā€™d love to hear what you guys are listening to!

Hmmā€¦ that might be kind of hardā€¦ maybe make a thread for this in music discussion?
