I have plans to get these soon too, hehe…
Out of curiosity, I’ve heard the cable that comes with the Nighthawks isn’t favorable. Why’s that?

From what i have heard, i think it cuz of it’s length and the weird angle of the connector

I find the supplied cable very stiff and a bit cumbersome. The angled connector doesn’t worry me, although you need to give the pins a regular wipe to keep them clean because of the material used.

Yes the cable is unfortunate for a company that made their name in audio cables. It’s very stiff so it always has these big loops from being curled up and it doesn’t ā€œflowā€ at all. I find myself bumping into it and fighting with it at my desk all the time. It’s easy to swap with another cable that has dual 2.5mm. Periapt and Hart Audio make some nice ones.

If you don’t want to buy from MusicDirect there’s also Amazon fulfilling from them on Amazon’s website.
I love my Carbon. Honestly from what I hear the Carbon does have a few minor improvements, and I wouldn’t trade the Carbon for anything else. Plus the extra set of pads to try different tuning is really great!

How would you guys hang these headphones from a stand? The support band or the actual headband?

Most likely the support strap imo

I use the strap too

Guy selling OG nighthawks

Not a bad price, especially since M0N said they toned down the Carbons’s signature. So if anyone wanted OGs I’d say used for $250 seems reasonable.

Actually it’s the other way around. The Carbon toned down the strangeness of the OG. The OG was much more strange sounding.
Just wanted to clarify that.

Oh, yep! That’s what I meant, just poorly written I suppose haha.

No worries. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh they messed up the sounds of the original Nighthawks with the Carbon? So does that mean there’s less of a reason to grab them now? I can only really find Carbons for sale new.

No, the Carbon doesn’t change the main sound of the Nighthawk hardly at all, just refinements here and there. I have the Carbon and if the OG is more strange or any different, honestly I wouldn’t trade my Carbon for anything else. I love them!

Good to know lol, just making sure. I have a list of a bunch of headphones I wanna try, and the first thing I’m buying is the Carbon.
I’m still looking around for DAC options, my mind does change alot on what I want lol. Not to say I’m afraid of making a bad decision about it, but I’m thinking about what might be best for my situation-

What amp do you have right now to pair with the DAC?

Well, I got the Asgard 3, and it’s connected to the Apple 3.5 mm to usb-c dongle. I fixed this one ground loop issue awhile ago, and the DAC removed some faint hiss I was hearing from the line out of my PC. I was thinking about buying the multibit addon card, but I was also considering on what other equipment I might buy way further down the line, so I’m also considering external stuff like the EL DAC, or even the Bifrost 2.
