@AECH I hang mine by the top part, not the suspension strap that goes on your head. The reason is that this can lose its tension over time which will result in the headphones sliding down your head very easily if you do this.

I was thinking that too, but in audioquest’s own marketing material they hang them by the strap so I figure it will be alright

Here is their stand

Well Audioquest doesn’t know everything, even about their own products. Personally I just do it from the upper part to be safe. But either should be fine then as long as it isn’t for extended periods.

That’s true lol, but I would say it’s safe for the most part but yeah that makes sense to hang it from the top

Wait
you mean you guys don’t hang it by the cord? Whoops.

Just kidding.

I also hang my Nighthawks by the cord on the very top. It’s very sturdy and doesn’t flex at all. I drill coat hooks to my desk so it holds the Nighthawks quite conveniently.

I was thinking about adding a small piece of leather or something to the middle of the wire band that would protect the fabric covering on the wire band. Seems like it would be a PITA to replace that fabric if it wears out from hanging.

I think I’ll try these
last few days I’ve been listening to 90% hip hop and electronic with x00 ph, dt770, x2 are all pretty fatiguing and leave my ears ringing
kph30i at lower volume is my preference tbh lol but sub bass is lacking
probably sell the ph and x2
I want to try the 770 on tubes one day

are these resolving at lower volumes? I find with the x00 ph I need to turn up the volume quite a bit to get the low end punch

Yes, but you might need to turn it up to get it to really slam, but it’s normal for this, and you can push them harder without as much fatigue imo. They do resolve and preform well at lower volumes, but for bass slam you might need to give them a bit more

Yeah that’s what I’m gathering from this thread but I should’ve asked how the highs compares to the other 3 I mentioned just to drive it home

Ah I think it has a bit more treble than the 30i by a bit, but is still as resolving as the ph in treble, it’s just not as prominent. I think with the suede pads it will be really up your alley

Do flagship cans like sennheiser hd820 and Sony Z1R get discounted on black Friday somewhere?

Typically no, but I would highly suggest looking used

Are you already aiming higher? Lol

Ultimately, i would like to own only 2 headphones:

  • one open back with wide soundstage and pinpoint imaging such as HD800 or AKG812
  • one closed back with meaty and textured bass and relatively good soundstage such as Sony Z1R or sennheiser hd820 or fostex th-900

I dont want to keep buying mid-fi cans. I already own 6 and have 1 more on the way. This is unhealthy.

Desktop setup complete! (The only thing not shown is my new Periapt cable that came in the mail today.) Really, really enjoying this combination. Every piece was a rec from this community and I don’t regret a single purchase. Thanks to everybody who gave their 2 cents and answered all my questions. Special shout out to @M0N who has more knowledge about headphones than you can shake a stick at. Doing A / B testing today plugging directly into the MacBook Pro and then into the Liquid Spark fed by the D10 there is a noticeable difference. I was skeptical at first that I would be able to tell much of a difference since I’ve never owned a proper dac / amp setup, but the sound improvement is definitely there. There seems to be more height, depth, and resolution overall. Things sound less congested, more space between instruments, and the bass seems tighter. I’m a believer!

Damn that D10 next to the LS looks nice, I still cant decide between the KTB and the D10, but now seeing the D10 next to the LS, it really looks nice. A lot better than below the LS causing the muffin top effect lol

Yeah I think they pair pretty nicely (visually and sonically). That photo was actually taken at home testing out the gear. I have since brought it to work. Below is what my setup looks like now. I think they work pretty well stacked also, although the LS on top of the D10 tends to heat them both up a little bit. Doesn’t feel unreasonably hot to me though.

So with more time on the dac and amp, would you say it’s a worthwhile improvement?
