Less bass might be what I need.

So a while ago I posted here about my modification using clips on the suspension strap to stop the headphones from creeping up my head, which worked like a charm, but now Iā€™ve removed the mod and found that after some time constantly stretched out (or maybe just time in general, I have now had the hawks for almost 5 months) I no longer have the problem.

So I just wanted to report for anyone who has just gotten the hawks and are worried about the suspension strap causing issues, that you can stretch out the elastic a bit so its not so powerful, which may also just happen with time!

I have a loaner pair on the way right now, should be here Thursday! Looking forward to trying them out and seeing what all the fuss is about finally  Iā€™m also interested in how these perform on a tube amp, specifically a Hagerman Tuba

Iā€™m a little doubtful that a headphone at this price can provide something that would be worth allocating some time away from the elex and hex v2 (which I currently have,) but Mon still gives his pair listening time so I guess there really is something to it.

I also will have the TRX00 in a month, so the responsible thing would be to wait for that to come in before buying anything elseā€¦

I mean the Carbon was originally a $700 headphone and probably still would be if it didnā€™t get discontinued.

It does help that the headphones are very different from most headphones. The presentation is very wide and sound is smooth, yet punchy.

yep, it sounds like the best chance of a headphone in the price range to offer something that I can enjoy and is unique compared to what I already have.

EDIT: speaker like soundstage on a warm and impactful unqiue headphone that is also comfortableā€¦ so tempting

I havenā€™t heard the hex v2ā€¦ but Nighthawk and Elex are a world apart. As youā€™re seeing, the point might be the contrast. But you might also find you donā€™t have time, as you originally feared, too. Only one way to find out though!

Elex is Def a fair bit better specially in terms of dynamics but the hawk does win imo in things like timbre, imaging and realistic sound (elex has mids way too forward). Oh yeah and also hawks are worlds chiller lol elex was too much at times. So even if the elex is better overall in technicalities hawks donā€™t slouch!

Wellā€¦ if youā€™re worried about your wallet, maybe check out metal571ā€™s review of the Nighthawks.

I have been firmly on the fence for a long time, lol.

Iā€™ll just say this, if you want a warm very relaxing headphone that focuses on timbre I can recommend the hawks. I donā€™t know what ur hifiman sounds like nor how the fostex will sound like but if any of them is relaxing and warm you do not need the hawks in my opinion

Lol metal is trash. That dude is just nuts

Yep. Newbie in the audiophile game here. After hearing how unique these headphones are I snapped up a mint pair of Carbonsfor around $250. The sound is undescribable. Itā€™s just smooooth. And then you suddenly hear things in the music you didnā€™t before. My harsh and crackly cantorial tracks from the 20s and 30s are suddenly more listenable and less fatigueing. You just never want to take them off

This makes me want to get my original pair of Nighthawks out and listen to them because itā€™s been a few months since Iā€™ve really sat back and just enjoyed them. For me what makes them special is that they have such a unique soundstage that it makes a lot of the electronic music I listen to sound quite different than it does on my other headphones.

You will find that several people here keep the hawks in their collection and listen to them regularly, even though they have multiple sets of ā€œendgameā€ gear. I canā€™t foresee any situation where I would part with mine at this point. I have no desire to ā€œupgradeā€ them. They are what they are and I love them for it. They may not be for everybody, but I think everybody should at least try them if they have the opportunity.

Another reason we keep these is because I donā€™t think an upgrade exists lol
