šŸ”¶ Audioquest NightHawk

Yeah that was part of my reason for the quotation marks. They are kindaā€™ their own thing in the wonderful world of hi-fi. I think thatā€™s why most people who like them hang onto them.

Appreciate all of your thoughts.

One thing I was wondering if someone could explain is how the ā€œspeakerlikeā€ and 3D presentation/soundstage compares to other headphones that are sometimes similarly described (maybe Focals or higher end hifimans). I know it can be hard to put into words but I was wondering if the way in which these sound speakerlike and 3D is similar to these other headphones or if they get these same descriptions for another reason.

at this point Iā€™m probably going to try to get them either way haha

Gotchaā€¦ makes sense now

I think its described like this because its hard to describe like you mentioned lol but its kinda like sitting in a room with a good 2 (.1 even because that baaaaasssss) channel system with a nice wide and layered soundstageā€¦ canā€™t forget the room part of this because you get a good sense of the space around the musicā€¦ focals are much more intimate and surrounding almost like a ball of music around your head but the comparison is somewhat apt because as some on here have mentioned with the elegia (being my main reference here) thereā€™s an openness that is somewhat similar in the sense you can hear space past the instruments creating that room like ish presentation

thatā€™s my go at it but as usual itā€™ll come up short until you yourself hear it

Iā€™m glad you made an attempt to describe it because I wasnā€™t sure where to start. Ha! What you said about ā€œspace past the instrumentsā€ makes a lot of sense to me. Hadnā€™t ever really thought about it that way.

thanks, I think that reiterates what I have heard and basically answers the gist of what I was curious about, that the stage/presentation shares similarities with the Focals (I have the elex for instance) but also does it in a different way. Sounds very interesting!

Any other attempts at trying to describe it are more than welcome! Along with the difficulty in putting it into words, Iā€™m sure that there is some difference in how different people perceive it as well which is always interesting to hear

I hope I stressed the somewhat enough lol I look forward to your thoughts eventually

being that keys words lol

It is hard to put in words, but that describes it pretty well

So there are other headphones that present a room like experience, LCD2c comes to mind, but what separates the nighthawk is the imaging and detail within that room space. They project low end with authority like some large bookshelfs. The 2c letā€™s you hear the room acoustics, but the sounds track poorly and are closer. Also Iā€™d argue that the 2c is less detailed in every way except for bass response, where they truly shine and is the reason to buy them. Other headphones Iā€™ve tried dont provide a room like feel and are more ā€œIā€™m standing outside in a fieldā€ or something. Hope this makes sense as well LOL.

I can read these descriptions and agree with the wordsā€¦ but really I donā€™t think the Elex is a good referent for comparison with the Nighthawks at all! Theyā€™re so very different. Personally I donā€™t think the Nighthawks are in the same league as the Elex, but I really do like the Elex. I think the idea of getting Nighthawks for something different and unique is what really standsā€¦ they are wayward children with their own, highly idiosyncratic personalities.

yeah thatā€™s what Iā€™m looking for. And honestly, Iā€™m not sure I can fully appreciate all the small details and improvements really high end headphones can offer. Currently, I am mostly attentive to and interested in changes in presentation and overall experience. For example, if you asked me to compare how I perceive the presentation of the elex and hex v2, I could give a few paragraphs. If you asked me which was more detailed in the bass, mids and highs, I wouldnā€™t have much to sayā€¦

Coolā€¦ I have them for the same reason you want them. Thing is ā€¦ they ā€œrequireā€ adjustment. Or ā€œbrain burn inā€ at leastā€¦ and you have to like them enough to want to put in the time. For meā€¦ not sure I have done that. Or want to put aside other headphones to do that. Still getting around to it, lol ā€” they are at least super comfortable!

You certainly have a large group here that absolutely loves themā€¦ maybe you will too!

Bought a pair on headfi the other day. Curious about these. Should be a good compliment to the Elegias that are on there way too?

Iā€™d say yeah for sure. Elegias are definitely more neutral and laid-back compared to the nighthawks. Both are extremely comfortable, easily the two comfiest headphones in my collection. I think both can be used for really any type of music, but way different sound signatures - both are fantastic though and I like them both a lot.

Very different sound signatures and both very enjoyable. I love having them both around to change things up. They are a great complement to each other IMO. Definitely my 2 favorite headphones I have tried so far in my journey.

Heya folks! Thereā€™s a long overseas trip for me soon, and thereā€™s a few things I wonā€™t be able to bring and use for a long while, among that are my reliable combo the Nighthawk Carbons and Xduoo XD-05 Plus. if anyoneā€™s interested in buying them off of me, hit me up~

You can post it here.

Ooh, gotcha, thanks.
