Nighthawks best at night

Sold my Nighthawk Carbons a couple of months ago to slim down my gear and put a bit back into savings during a tight month, but damn do I miss it. If anyone sees a good deal for a pair, please shoot me a DM. These headphones are a gem and I didn’t expect to miss them so quickly :stuck_out_tongue:

I posted a that if someone could talk me out of mine id let them go to a new home. So let me know what you are thinking.

Hahaha it’s that NH addiction, it’s real and only the initiated know.

What would be a good price for you? :slightly_smiling_face:Somehow I rarely use them these days over the KSC75s and they could find a home that uses them more I guess.

I’m in the market for some Nighthawks as well, but I’m not 100% sure about which pads to get.

From my understanding there are 3 different pads in total, but it only comes with 1 (non-carbon) or 2 (Carbon) by default.
There are the hybrid pads that are a leather (outside) / cloth (inside) mix and come with the non-carbon/brown model, the velours and a 3rd one (full leather?) that comes with the Carbon by default. Is that correct?
The pads that I tried were the hybrids and the velours and I preferred the hybrids. Are the 3rd pads worth hunting for?
MrAyrit mentioned that he favors the hybrids clearly on all models in his review.

You
They absolutely are an endgame. Many people missed out as these cans have two things that must happen in order for the listener to appreciate. First, must let burn in for 7days. Period. Secondly you must play about 4 songs at least before any judgements to allow your ears adjust to the sound of these cans
I think they could have been marketed a little better. I’d like to see Audioquest take a stab at a IEM

Nighthawks take time for your ears to adjust to what you are hearing, especially after coming off a set of traditional dynamic headphones. I hated them when I first heard them and now I wouldn’t sell them if offered 10k as they no longer exist and nothing sounds like them. They sound dark upon initial listen
 Couldn’t be more wrong
Most enjoyable headphone I’ve owned. I’d like to see Audioquest make an IEM

Agreed completely!!! Fun facts: The weirdness that is experienced is low distortion dynamic drivers, very very few speakers/drivers can replicate the detail with zero fatigue that these can do, specially at higher volumes. There are a couple of Audeze that can do it but it doesn’t compare at a price point of $300 that they are generally found now, nature of planars is low distortion.

Just a warning to those who don’t own the nighthawks yet:

  • they are extremely overhyped on this thread
  • there is a great deal of confirmation bias and jumping on the bandwagon happening in this thread
  • they are great for Techno, EDM, and single player horror games
  • absolutely not recommended for imaging and soundstage heavy applications such as competitive fps gaming. Detail retrieval is poor as well due to its dark sound signature.
  • very very comfortable to wear for long hours

Yes probably not what you’d want for anything competitive. But casual stuff is pretty great though

Signature really doesn’t affect retrieval, it will affect presentation of detail though, hence why people tend to associate brighter = more detail off the bat, even if that’s not really the case with more listening/compared to other options

Haha!. That’s one headphone that’s I’m never selling. Now if I could get new suede padss

I never found details to be an issue. its dark yes but detail retrieval is great once you get used to the sound sig. but yes I do end up preferring a brighter headphone for comp gaming but single player I find this guy rather immersive.

Hey guys, look who is back in my collection😅

I was missing the soundstage, imaging, comfort, bass and the weird tuning just too much and had to buy another pair of the nighthawk carbon.

It was a mistake to sell my old pair a few months ago. Glad that i could buy a pair with only 50 h listening time

Sounds about right, I had OG Nighthawks and Nightowl Carbons, sold them when I bought LCD-2 Classics. Went back to the office last year and sold the LCD-2Cs and now own a Nighthawk Carbons and couldn’t be happier.

Just recently got my hands on the Nighthawk Carbons. I was expecting the dark signature and wonky bass shelf, but I was a bit taken aback by their staging, almost having a void in the center with everything pushed up to the outside. I then had the idea of using VSS, specifically HeSuVi’s and playing around with the different presets.

I shit you not, these sound wider than the HD800S with the gsx++ HRIR preset. The sound is like listening through hearing protection buds at a small venue. Pausing always gives me a double-take b/c it sounds like speakers in the room have been turned off. I almost never use virtualization as Crossfeed typically sounds a lot better to me, this is a headphone that LOVES it.

Hi All,

I’ve been a big fan of the nighthawks for a while now. I’m looking for my next cans. Anyone got any recommendations that would complement them? Currently got an asgard. The nIghthawk doesn’t really leverage the extra power though so hopefully the next cans will.

Thanks in advance!

I think the DCA Aeon Noire or Aeon X closed would be nice. They’re really well tuned and have really good resolution while the Nighthawks have neither
