Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews (A Million views?) Part 3/4

@Ohmboy @Rinderkappajoe the woman speaking at 3:36 says “I never said I was afraid of dying!” it’s clearer on different versions, however, on the 2023 remix it is particularly clear. There is a certain amount of conjecture on various forums (When isn’t there!) that the phrase had been swapped throughout various versions. Once again, however, having played the track through my HiBy R4 feeding my FiiO K11 R2R and into my GL2000 headphones from a Spotify HiRes file, and also playing it through my stereo system (too many components to list) from my 180 gm vinyl LP (I do have an original 1970’s version and can check that if you would like), the phrase remains the same.
Hope that helps.

Awesome, I hope it sounds as good as it looks.

Here’s to another winner from you :clinking_glasses:

Sounds like Arcadia really stole the show for you this year! The way you describe it—excellent bass, clear mids, and non-fatiguing treble—makes it sound like the perfect all-rounder.

Super excited!

…I normally wait until a company has screwed up more before putting them on the list but seeing the prices they are charging I sure as hell have some higher expectations from them…

This is extremely depressing to maintain though…especially when i get errors like this.

The list is so long I need to split my custom command in 2…

Wait, this set has an xMEMS driver with a standard 2-pin connection?! Don’t those need discrete power?
Or did someone come up with a xMEMS that can be driven with signal power only?

Very confused/excited about this.

Soranik IEMs do use an energizer, but that outputs via a 4.4 mm connector (and 4.4 mm input), allowing you to use standard IEM cables from the energizedr and any basic DAC/amp with a 4.4 mm output going into the energizer.

I see. Also, come to think of it, it’s a micro-XMEMS in a set with 2 DDs and the USOUND thing, so it probably has a way less power draw than a full range XMEMS would require.

Thanks for the info.

They are full-range xMEMS and USound MEMS drivers from what I know. The xMEMS one is the same as what’s in the Moondrop Concerto I believe (newer and larger than the ones used by pretty much everyone else).

Have you tried swapping left and right module? If the flex follows the module I would venture to say that it’s the module that is faulty!

Have to be frank, I’m not liking it from the mids to treble :grimacing: . I’ll dust off the IEC711 at some point to check if anything is borked, but it sounds pretty strident to my ears, minus the bass. Maybe some more time to acclimate to the peaks as well (already run the gamut on tip-rolling.)

I got a ton of stuff just kinda not making it to me.
The new Dunu apparently was explicitly not to be sent to me cuz “custom BA” warpath.
Hey Dunu, if you see this. Fuck you, Merry Christms, I’ll buy it soon anyway.
Will remind everyone what the point of non specific drivers is.
MONEY :ok_hand: :dollar:

It’s not great lol. I really don’t get the hype.
The timbre is very off to me and thin as well (It’s like me making bacon with all that planar sizzle). Its only saving grace is if you use it with an Ohm adapter, but stock wise, nu uh.

I dunno why they didn’t use ESTs when that single decision would’ve made it so much better. If you found the ET142 unnatural, wait till you hear the Braindamage- I mean Braindance :slightly_smiling_face:

Cost wise the est woulda added $40 cut into their margins. The no name drivers are quite affordable.
Sonion EST can be had much cheaper in bulk with a tax license in Shenzen.
Dunu mothership was same as Ziigaat and 1 uses brand drivers and old company Dunu uses “custom”
Go figure…
As Fatfreq just showed.
Profit over everything.
That’s part of why one wasn’t sent.
I’ll be clear in my review, honest with my take, and will 100% mention the “trust us bro” b.s. + narrative control.

Exactly
At Dunu’s size they could easily do a $500 tribrid no issues
If you and Kiwiears can use ESTs in the Punch at $450 then there’s really no excuse other than chasing pure profit
I will say the packaging is nice, but that’s about it unless you buy an Ohm adapter
I was luckily to borrow it from a friend, but I can’t believe I almost blind bought this to review

I bet they could actually offer less than PUNCH but they wont give up that much profit.
I have been spoken to twice over past few years about working with Dunu. Just preliminary stuff
Rejected both times.
I shoulda rejected fatfreq 2nd try but hindsight is 20/20
