Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews (A Million views?) Part 3/4

Tour groups for the win…I mean loss.

Lots of folks who can never pay 2,3,4,5 thousand fucking dollars giving opinion without that… oh so critical
“Holy fuck, what have I done? this is no better than my fave 350 set”
The folks charging 500% markup get free advertising
The folks who praise it…never feel that “Oh…nooooooo” pain

Just read a person saying a big money cable is a gotta have for any big money stable
No it’s not
STFU dude

Random 5am doompost:

Does anyone know if Sonion and Knowles assemble their stuff in China or the US?
The whole tariff thing might cause an even bigger uptick in the ‘custom’ BA drivers used in iem’s. It’s not gonna stop people from buying them. We’ve seen that much already. Using branded drivers may also end up being an excuse for an even more exhorbitant pricetag for what you would normally get.
A spitroast scam if you will.

Both.
Mostly built in China.

Most, aside from a handful of “Boutique” nose bleed brands
have very very close ties with China.
Empire Ears and Jerry Harvey migrated most of the Supply chain to China but J.H. moved too slow, Campfire Audio moved fast. E.E. essentially needs joint releases

Trump just assured an already tough task (Being Made in USA)…is pretty much impossible.

Europe protects their businesses a lot more though they tax folks haaard.
They do protect businesses better than America.

Most “Flagship” stuff is China.

Which means the only and last hurdle is perception.
That a set like Valhalla is any less impressive than a boutique set.
Drivers
components
QA/QC
Innovation
Just the “Made in China” is an issue.
That’s odd…considering.

Made it through over half of weights this morning before my sore left arm stopped me.

Particularly curious to hear what your thoughts are on this one. Michael Bruce did a review on his unit and said it is basically a copy of the Dark Magician v2. Seeing that the people behind TIgerism also made the DM, it is really odd that they would reissue the one that wasn’t embraced by the community.

If it’s a Dark Magician V2 clone, it’s hardly worth the discussion. We are now placing our hopes on Michael Bruce’s Anomaly!

Yeah, that kind of blanket censorship was rough! especially when all you’re doing is sharing a personal experience. There’s definitely a line between stopping misinformation and just silencing people, and it felt like platforms were still figuring that out in real time… often pretty clumsily might I add…as if they were doing it on purpose…

Solid family time with the little on is the most important for forming precious memories for the kid!

Yeah he is growing in all ways by the day. Literally everyday is a new phrase or emotion or expression unlocked.
This is pretty epic

Looks like that’s the case. Too early to give any opinions but if same driver a similar tuning as OG was where that driver was shining.

Those are the Tea Pros right? One of the sets I want to demo at CanJam London this year (Elise Audio should have them).

Pulled out the Punch again today. That set is a real winner.
Funny thing is that only in the past month or so I start seeing more and more people buying it and loving it. Even people that would normally pull up their noses for the HBB logo.

I’ve put on the FiiO K17 and it gave me some proper existential dread when listening to Bohren. I love it.

Will most definitely do so!

That’s good advice, thanks! I’ll bring multiple sets with me to be on the safe side.

I’m generally more biased towards sets I own, than sets that I get to listen to on tour. Confirmation bias is real. Everyone’s biased to different extents, but if I had to rank max to min it’d be

  1. A set bought and paid for with my own money (desperately want to believe that the money I’ve spent was worth it = confirmation bias; this is why so many people reading/watching reviews have already bought the set… they just want validation)
  2. A set given to an individual for review (direct communication with the retailer/brand = social capital on the line, i.e. desire to “please” retailer/brand to maintain a good relationship)
  3. A set on tour (just one person, who organized the tour has had direct contact with the brand = social pressure to “please” a retailer/brand is spread across ~10-15 tour participants, so there’s less social pressure to praise every set that comes along)

That’s how I see it at least, as someone who’s really enjoyed being in a tour group for the past year
