Way too costly for IEMs for me, for now! I am thinking of grabbing that GL2000 before I demo HD800s, though. Then HD800s will have to impress me, over all of these IEMs and a brand new headphone. And for $1600, thatâs what youâd want it to do!
I mean
Those adds up to being more than the price of either the Volt/Zen lol.
But I get what you mean.
Test several at once, sell the losers. Itâs the only way to do it, man.
If you can sell them, thats a good way to do it.
Do you have trouble selling what youâve triedâŚ? So you just keep them all? Haha. The world of audio is GREAT, because whenever you buy quality, you can sell quality. Iâve never had any real loses yet, and the little you pay for shipping/returns/restocking and reduced eBae prices is part of the cost of gaining that knowledge & experience of hearing & having those other competing products you didnât keep. But, I am quite worried about the DM8 not selling⌠:\
I havent tried selling because I dont really know how to do it in a safe way for both.
So yeah, pretty much all my iems are in my house (66 right nowâŚ).
Gzus lol. Yeah, Iâm proud to have a perfect Ebay account, with almost 200 stars! Haha. Though I suppose you could avoid the PayPal fee, by posting on forum classifrieds(less safely, might I add).
Can You describe A7 vs Orb ?
Decided to pass on A7(or A6) :\ Orb will be ordered in a few days, then upon arrival I will have: Orb, FD5, Believe, Fan, DM8. Along with my current stuff, like Tape Pro, FH3, T3, No.3, Blon 03, YBF, etc. Iâm really liking the Believe so far! Itâs pretty much a direct upgrade to FH3, with a sound somewhat like H40(I like this way more than H40). Very nice Super excited about this highly reclusive Orb, though. . .
Why did you pass on the A7? Looking at your collection, the A7 will be less redundant than the Orb as you already have a few hybrids (dd + ba) but no tri-brid or piezo iems.
Which genres of musics do you listen to? I have been considering fh3, h40 (while also looking into the others that you mention). I primarily listen to hip-hop (perhaps 85% of my library)
Several things :\ So much customization(makes it way harder to configure, to find the sound you might want, to test, to describe each sound). I believe I heard it sounded pretty similar to FD5 overall. The bass worries me. I heard A6 is more exciting, as well. DM8 ended up appealing more, with its simplicity, probably better comfort, possibly better sound, which may end up being easier to sell than something complex like A7 lol. If A7 had 2 DDâs, though. . . that probably wouldâve sold it for me! I have been thinking of grabbing the L4, but I read about that brightness, and would rather get A7 again. x_x There is no end to the madness! Maybe I will buy A7, damnit. Ok, I did. Damn you all.
I love how âextremely goodâ only equals a 7.9 score. ._ .

Chiptunes, video game & film soundtracks, smooth jazz, rock, hard rock, metal, power metal, pop, classical, electronic & dark ambient, instrumental, spacesynth, trance, folk, new age. Stuff like that. Not really any rap, but P.O.D. & Limp Bizkit. Would not recommend H40 for that, but then again I donât really like H40 much for anything.
Agreed. My H40 sits in my case locked away. Havenât put in my ears since the summer I think.
lol, that amount of versatility should be a pro for most people.
Yes, the A7 CAN sound similar to the FD5 in signature (on the pop-gold setup), but it can be different as well. Thats why I think the A7 is the best iem to get and get out of this hobby with. Since you get everything in it lol.
Iâm interested in what it can do as far as bass texture and tonality, at least. Estat interests me more than piezo/ceramic, but I havenât heard either in an IEM yet(oh wait, Senfer DT6!), so itâs whatever at this point lol. I suspect it will definitely sound different than FD5, but NOT out-do the insane spatial performance of FD5. If anything, Iâm keeping FD5 for gaming(!). My fancy little copper cable for them just arrived, speak of the demigod. Yeah, the Volt would be awesome to hear, but I REALLY hope one of these IEMs will hit the spot at the prices they already are
FiiO FD5 in stock form wouldnât qualify as basshead, but after a cable swap, (to quote Sidney Powell) âThe Kraken will be releasedâ.
I found the balanced, YinYoo 4 cores 4N OFHC High Purity Oxygen-Free Copper Cable to be the gatekeeper, for the FD5 to become a true basshead IEM.
But unlike some IEMs (TFZ Live 3), the FD5 is not a one trick pony, where most of the attention is dedicated to one end of the frequency range. The FD5s still give you all of the micro/macro details and the mids (especially the vocals) are clean, while being on the warm side of neutral.
If you wanna hear an estat (like I do) then keep an eye on dunu.
Hey guys,
Iâm quite happy with the FH3 and theyâre my daily driver since a few months with the H40.
Now Iâm considering an update coming from these two IEMs.
I like some deep, fast and full-bodied bass and a good and open soundstage. Iâm very sensitive to shoutiness and too forward sounding mids. More relaxed sounding but with some airiness and detail.
Any recommendations up to 500/600$?
