Sounds like you might like the LZ A7.
Thanks, they sound very interesting.
But of what I read, do they offer the same amount of bass in quantity like the FH3/H40?
A bit lower than the fh3. But since it has less treble quantity than the fh3, you could turn up the volume more without being killed by the treble first.
Treble is not a problem for me with the FH3, even at louder volumes.
The A7 sounds really interesting but Iām a bit worried that I donāt get a long with the ālackā of bass.
It wont lack bass, thats for sure. But it isnt as much as the FH3, which is close to basshead levels.
Just go for FD5, if you can handle FH3 treble just fine lol. Thereās nothing relaxed about FH3 or FD5, IMO, and FD5 surely has the bass(!). Detail, air, soundstage; FD5 has it all, man. Worth every penny of R&D they put into that thing.
Those two will be difficult to beat for bass in that price range. The FH3ās (quality) bass is fast tight and controlled. The H40 is bass heavy. It is sloppier and slower than the FH3 but I feel the H40 has better timbre than the FH3. Both are pretty bassy IEMs with elevated bass in the upper bass region.
My two suggestions to compliment the FH3 begin moving away from the FH3ās price range and will give you a different flavor to enjoy, both with quality bass.
Mangird Tea - Sub bass focused with an extremely clear mid range. Fantastic imaging and soundstaging.
Thieaudio Monarch - The more I listen to this IEM, the more I realize it is bass overload (even for me), and I love every second of it. The bass can blow your mind yet everything is clean, clear and detailed with fantastic imaging and sound staging. Amazing.
I just discovered this album last night. Was blown away by the bass. I was listening with the Monarch and it felt as if the bass was about to shake the teeth out of my head. Some of these songs will definitely be used as test tracks for my bass critical listening. Might want to stream from a lossless source to get full detail if interested in insane bass.
Thanks for your input.
Did you also listen the Clairvoyance? What Iāve read about these two IEMs the Clairvoyance should be more my cup of tea than the monarch.
Mangird Tea also sounds interesting.
I own bothā¦
I bought the Clairvoyance first thinking I would prefer it to the Monarch. I was wrong. I much prefer the Monarch. The thing about the Clairvoyance is there are other IEMs that are much more inexpensive that get very close to itās tuning and performance. The Legacy 4 to name just one. The Clairvoyance sounds great and has a better than average soundstage, but it is not a very detailed IEM. The bass is softer and bleeds into the mids vs the Monarch. It sounds bloated in comparison. The treble is elevated almost to a fault although never becoming sibilant. A testament to the estat drivers, but itās overall just not my preference for my listening enjoyment. The Monarch is much more detailed and for me, the bass is elevated right at the right point in the frequency response not to mess with the mid clarity. The treble is perfect for me as well.
Both are very good IEMs with tuning that is meant for different genres of music. Iām glad I have both, but do prefer the Monarch in general.
The Clairvoyance will sound more like the FH3. The Monarch will be a nice compliment to the FH3. The Team and Monarch are tuned quite similarly. I see the Mangird Tea as a baby Monarch and the Legacy 4 a baby Clairvoyance.
It might be good to clarify exactly what type of bass people are looking for.
Got the FH3 today and for my taste thereās plenty of bass quality & quantity - especially in subbass regions.
However, I wouldnāt mind a bit more punch and attack in EBM kickdrumsā¦
thats whatā¦ high-bass? lower-mids?
you know what i meanā¦ the thing that goes KKAPOOOW
something like this might easily be mistaken for bass
especially for noobs like me
Experiment with different tips. Tips make a huge difference. Try Spinfits and make sure you have a complete seal. KKAPOOOW!
Many tips I have seem to seal but do not actually. If there is no suction when you remove the IEMs from your ears, you donāt have a complete seal. If youāre using foam tips, youāre never going to hear the true bass response the IEM is capable of.
Maybe youād like a tuning like TFZ No.3 has, where the bass bump is higher up towards mids.
Thanks, I think I just prefer closed back headphones, atleast for techno.
Not sure if IEMs can physically create that kind of āpressureā that some closed backs can produce.
I used to hold the same belief (how can a little IEM compete with the chest thumping sound, of a pair of headphones), but the TFZ No. 3 was a revelation.
Cool! What closed back headphones can you compare it to?
Iām still searching for an IEM that can rival or even touch the bass of the FH5. Listening to Danny Carey or other well executed drums/bass mix on FH5 is unrivaled. The timbre and tonality of the bass engulfs you in pure bliss. Drums, different toms, bass guitar plucks, all sound distinct, sweet and musical, not just another sterile, generic low rumble that most IEMs give you. YBF, Blon, FH3, Sony N3, H40, No 3, E5000, Ibasso, Moondrop etc. Iāve owned or still own most of the mentioned ābassheadā IEMs here and none deliver the level of satisfaction FH5 do in the bass department. Basshead shouldnāt be only about elevated bass but also how that bass sounds. When the bass drum hits itās and event, you can feel the air flutter almost going to your chest. The floor drum hits sounds big, the different toms each have distinct pitch with good sustain, you can tell the size, membrane tension and where it was hit, itās not another sterile, generic āboomā, the drum line is a melody in itself.
Havenāt tried the FD5 yet, they look promising, hopefully they can rival the FH5.
It gets to a point when you need to step up a tier if youāve spent out on
Then you couldāve got a set like the MESTās, Z1Rās or EE LXās were the whole bass impact, presentation is a whole lot betterā¦took me a while to learn this
Based on how many you tried but didnt satisfy you. I do think going up the ladder is the best option for you.
Z1R or Monarch for you. Step on up to the big boys.
IMO the FH5 is OK, not great even for itās price point. The bass is OK, but I much prefer the beryllium DDs vs the FH5. The FH5 cannot compete with their quality, speed and control. You must prefer the chunkiness of the FH5 bass then?
Iāll add, Iām sure we can all agree the FH5 is not a technically impressive IEM at all.
crinacle's IEM Ranking List ā In-Ear Fidelity Crin rates the Starfield higher. lol
Iād say MEST out of the three has the least amount of quantity. High quality bass, but not much quantity if that is what they are looking for since Iād consider it a slightly warm neutral IEM
