Best audio purchase of the year? - 2020 Edition

I love mine for $600.00. Half of that is Crazy!

Yeah I don’t know what someone was smoking when they set that price but I hope they got a raise

Still beating myself up for letting it sit in my cart to “think” it over, assuming it would stay at that price all day. :sob: rookie mistake for sure.

(I’ve ordered, but haven’t received yet, a few things :eyes:)

For now? An inexpensive one: SMSL Sanskrit 10th V2.

Just because I was told “don’t spend 100$ on a DAC, spend more so it makes a difference to your (AVR, motherboard, etc)”. But I already had a JDS Labs Atom amp and T50RPs (etc)… I’ve been oh so pleasantly surprised. It was the missing part.

Yeah i dont know. I know a few youtubers got to hear them but seemed to not enjoy them. Or they did at some shows then didnt at others. Who knows. Shows are not the best critical listening spots, or so i have been told. I havent seen many reviews on them in general either.

I like mine but i need to spend more time with them and audio listening as a whole.

I wasnt immediately impressed by them, but I rarely am by a headphone.
I listened a bit more and then could tell if I gave them a few days, I would probably begin to really appreciate them and that’s exactly what happened

Going from my OG ultrasone proline 2500s to the hd6xx i wasnt impressed but then i melded. I tried to go back to the ultrasones recently and just couldnt.

But i do have a theory that ultrasone drivers need to be broken back in when not used often. Like a musical instrument that opens up with use, but it closes back up when sitting.

When it comes to audio products in the headphone sector and the corresponding accessories from 2020, I have very clear favorites!

Ifi Audio certainly plays a leading role in this.

1.)
My absolute number 1 is the iDSD Signature, what this relatively small particle has done for almost my entire headphone collection is unbelievable.
Starting with my sensitive little ones, my Ando’s, which he drives extremely clean and with a dead silent background noise, with a stage display and bass precision that even a 3000 $ expensive Astell & Kern is not able to present.
Right up to my 600 ohm Beyer’s, which apart from the qualities mentioned above, even gives them a certain gentleness. The peaks have not completely disappeared, but “ironed smoothly”.
If I now also include the possibility of mobile use, I would say;

An absolute must have for fans of the audio hobby.

2.)
Again two products from ifi Audio, namely the Zen Can / Dac combination.
The reason: sheer drive power, very clean sound, details, smoothness, and xBass & 3D make my tube amplifier almost obsolete.

3.)
Indeed my Andro Gold, you have to hear it to understand it.
You can confidently throw all prejudices against pure BA-equipped in-ears overboard.
This plays with a force and a liveliness that is second to none.
And everyone who now says that 500 $ IEM’s are playing in the same league as an Andro, I say to them:

You lucky guy, be happy because you saved a lot of money!

4.)
There I see the Sennheiser HD560S in the price-performance ratio
even though he’s just got a damning verdict from a YouTuber.
Personally, I find myself more and more preferring to use the HD660S, precisely because of its “refreshing” sound and the ability to drive it with the ifi’s.

5.)
As an mobile Bluetooth over-ear, I see the HifiMan Deva as the new benchmark.
It just sounds refreshingly good and, in my opinion, significantly better than anything that has been available in this market segment before.

Just my 2Cents

I just finished assembling and mounting my DIY acoustic diffusers. These might tie the miniDSP SHD for best audio purchase this year. The way these improve the soundstage and allow you to hear the acoustic space of the recording rather than your listening room is remarkable.

99% dope that :+1: just need some vinyl? lol

I’ve done vinyl before. As much as I love the big artwork and the sound, it wasn’t worth it for me. I’m really pleased with how clean this setup is. It’s a great base to start upgrading amps and speakers. I just picked up a pair of Wharfedale EVO4.2 to replace the Q Acoustics 3030i which were sort of a placeholder to get the rest of the system set up.

Bought a lot of cheap shit this year and went a bit much with the buds endeavor. At the end of the year my most used pieces of gear are my btr5 I love the added flexibility oof these little Bluetooth units and I also got into tws Iems ending up with my galaxy buds + proving their worth to me in my long 10 hour days at work without having to be charged keeping me
company with features I didnt even know I needed before

Aye it’s tidy as, love it :+1: but a Linn would look sick adding a bit of an old school HIFI set up
