What would be a better amp/dac combo in your opinion?

If you could grab one, perhaps try for a monolith liquid spark and an e30, but you might not be able to get ahold of one

Yhea I can probaly get a liquid spark, and it will be cheaper if i remember right. Thanks!

880 600ohm vā€™s T1 a massive difference in over all sound?

Pretty significant, the only larger similarities would be how they stage and the beyer treble imo

So the T1 has more mids, bass? and overall more resolving?

I got the DT880 600 omh Black edition in today and they are really impressive right out of the box. I am running an EQ by oratory1990 till the grey pads are delivered. These sound like they have the dynamics of the Elex with the detail of the Anandas. The Anandas has a bigger sound-stage and the Elexā€™s bass is a bit punchier, but that may be due to the black pads. I did try these on the SP200, which sound great on high gain. I tried them on the JDS Labs Atom and they sound awful on either High or Low gain. My DAC is the SU-8 by the way and I have a tube pre-amp on the RCA portion of the SP200.

Iā€™ve been using a dt880 250ohms for a month and want to change it for a 600 ohm version. Iā€™ve paired it with an ifi zen and its obviously loud enough and when I want more volume I connect a small Bravo Audio V2 amp to it. I canā€™t go too loud with it because it starts to distort, especially on the low end.

Would my current budget setup power the dt880 600 enough? is the difference between the 250 and 600 version really noticeable if youā€™re not listening for it?

I havenā€™t seen Zā€™s review since it hasnā€™t come out yet so maybe he answers that already, but Iā€™d appreciate some insight now

The review definitely answers this as far as how powerful of a setup you need.

The answer is that while you can power it on a $100 amp itā€™s generally not going to be enough to sound its best. You need a pretty beefy setup to really make them sound ā€œgreat.ā€

I would say maybe get something a little more powerful. I hear the Liquid Spark and Schiit amps are good for these. Depends on what your budget is. Perhaps an Asgard 3?

Liquid spark can power them so can the asgard 3 but they donā€™t sound anywhere near as good as a higher end like a RNHP that seems to really be able to bring it to its full potential.

thanks, I was afraid of that. One thing is that I power the zen with usb, and was thinking that maybe the power input addition might help.

Yeah I was just saying in the low budget area. Some people donā€™t want to spend the money or cannot afford an RNHP.

thanks. the problem is that I live in Italy and those amps cost less than the shipping and import duties

Iā€™ll look into the RNHP thing.
Iā€™ve noticed that there are tube amps which can be hit and miss but if they hit they seem to have enough power, something like a little dot or dark voice. Thereā€™s also this artisanal polish family run tube amp business called Feliks-Audio that seems really interesting, although the ā€œbudgetā€ amp begins at 500 euros

You can definitely balance the dt 880 600 ohm too that should help the sound. That review should be out in a few days or soā€¦ sometime this week I would assume since he said so in the tygr video. I will confirm though the liquid spark definitely distorts and struggles to power the 600 ohm dt 880. Does it get loud? yeah, but does it sound great? no definitely not

Ok, great point about the liquid spark, and I guess everything more or less in that price range.

Budget issues aside, do you think Iā€™m losing out significantly with regards to the 250 in comparison to a well set up 600?

also another question, and thanks a a lot Soren and Falenkor for the replies, is the tube amp the way to go? Iā€™ve seen some people mention the dark voice connected to a dac

Due to the demand of such a setup I wouldnā€™t necessarily tell someone to go upgrade due to that major different in price. I think provided your fine with your current 250 ohm youā€™ll be alright. If anything wait it out see his review. Make a decision. If possible you could definitely ask that business if you could bring the headphones in to test on the amp yourself. Pickup the 600 ohm version with a return policy and test it for yourself

I see many people greatly enjoy these on tubes, the Darkvoice would be great.
