đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ω

yeah that sensitivity could skew things but its all subjective anyways
i just thought the 650 was more mellow sounding because the hump in the bass puts it more inline with the mids and makes them sound more even imo

Please do report back on how your new 600s compare. I would like to keep a member of the HD6?? series around. If the 600 takes to the DV significantly better I would consider selling the 6XX and moving to that one.

yup sure thing
seems to be almost consensus (here anyways) that the 600 is preferable on a tube amp but ill be happy to contribute to the discussion

I was just coming here to say this
not sure why he thinks they’re so difficult to drive but on the liquid spark they’re pretty okay, better than okay really
with the zen dac its a pretty tuby sounding budget solid state option for these
 sounds really good

Hmmm, I was left wanting a bit more with the Zen dac, but it did push them fine.

Ideally if you had 200 to spend, an Asgard 3 or a darkvoice with nos tubes would be great picks imo. At the 100 range, the liquid spark or magni 3+ do great things imo, and with an even higher budget you can grab some sweet things

oh my bad I meant the liquid spark zen dac stack :ok_hand:

Ah gotcha lol, was going to say plugged into the Zen dac alone wasn’t the most satisfactory experience for me lol. Although mine are recabled to balanced so perhaps I should try the balanced out

Thinking about doing that myself since I like the comfort and hate non-removable cables.

For mine they aren’t detachable, but that’s because I have a wire with a 3 pin xlr on each cup, it was mainly done so I can use it on my higher end amps rather than power

Just picked these up tonight after Z’s review. Did any body else go the Emotiva/Geshelli route? First review I’ve watched and immediately purchased

Z is nuts. I used to run my 880 on a freaking Atom. I think he is losing his hearing.

Haha he was super excited on this one, I might be as well, I prefer to listen loud on certain music. I have the Monoprice desktop and the portable incoming, hope it can tide me over power wise.

I listen loudly too, but I also never had to go past 4 o clock on my old atom. I wish I still had my DT 880 because I believe the Asgard 3 would be more than enough power.

Well this gives me hope, currently have dt770’s in 80 and 250 ohm, This will be my first non closed back.

can confirm but honestly you don’t even need that
sounds pretty good on a liquid spark too (see the last handful of comments)
also @11_Clouds if youre considering a new amp for the dt880’s I think the darkvoice is a very nice pairing even with stock tubes and may be worth looking at

Thank you, I produce music so this was all studio but I’m very curious about tube amps for bedroom listening, I’ll look at the darkvoice.

If you have the know-how, the Bottlehead Crack is also a nice tube amp. If you don’t have the technical skills or time to put one together, you can buy them on the used market assembled, but the cost is much higher.

Will look at those as well, really like the aesthetic of the Darkvoice as well

So, I’m looking to buy the DT 880 600ohm, but I don’t know which amp/dac I should buy. I have been looking to buy the zen dac (200€ with power brick) or buying the topping a50 + e30 (300€). Which should I buy? I know the Zen dac may not be powerful enough in some circumstances.

So imo a zen dac isn’t going to power the 600 ohm well from my experience, the a50 + e30 would work decently well although might be a bit bright
