I donāt think thatās been overlooked. It just wasnāt directly related to the DT880ās power needs conversation. I agree with you though, the DT880 on a tube is AMAZING.
Iāve also mentioned it countless timesā¦ its not as immediately necessary compared to something like an hd600 where imo that headphone needs tubes to be good but the best ive heard the 880 is paired with a bottlehead crack and before that a darkvoiceā¦ I know wave has mentioned it as well as m0n and othersā¦ I guess weāve grown wary of mentioning it lolā¦ though I do understand people not wanting to sift through 500+ comments
Maybe try oval pads instead of round ones. Iām really enjoying the zmf lambskins on my 770 250.

The ovals are pretty big pads. They should easily fit around all Beyerdynamic headphones.
@donjklassen Waitā¦the Darkvoice will actually power the DT880s well? I thought you needed a modded Emotiva BasX for that.
Oh Zeos what have you done lolā¦ yes the darkvoice is a very nice pairing for the 880ā¦ plenty of power and makes the 880 a much fuller and more pleasant headphone imo

@donjklassen OK that clenched my next headphone purchase. I have a Darkvoice on the way and may even get the DT880s and Sundaras together.
Oh yeah if you have darkvoice the 880 is a no brainer

@donjklassen I have a Zen Dac but I am looking at a Schitt Stack\Spread or something else for the Sundara. Maybe an Enog and Erish or something. Still deciding on Zen DAC upgrade.
Iād suggest an Asgard 3 and use the zen dac for it and the darkvoice sundara will benefit from the powerā¦ I actually listened to the sundara balanced from the zen today and while it does a decent job itās still doesnāt reach its potential.

I havenāt heard the ak chip but I love mine with the multibit this setup will lean towards warm which imo is great with the sundara so as long as that sounds to your liking Iād def rec it

Besides the Emotiva 100 what headphone amp is best for these headphones? The Schiit Asgard has 300mW for 600ohm. anything better than that for under 300$?
I donāt think you need a lot of power, itās more like a pairing thing. People have reported that if you mod them balanced Geshelli Erish is a great option.
Thats not what ive heard. Zeos himself says they need a LOT of power
They are definitely tricky to drive and a powerful amp is more likely to be able to drive them, but you donāt need a super powerful amp, you just need the right one.

I have and its ok but my RNHP amp sounds better
But when i got my Bifrost DAC the RNHP volume dropped. I no longer have any headroom. Also i didnt have that much headroom on the RNHP before. The RNHP is not a very powerful amp. So iām looking for a good power amp for my harder to drive headphones. but i would like to keep it under 300$ i can go higher if theres a really good amp. Whats the most powerful amp that doesnt go into the higher price brackets? Iād rather not get the Asgard. and the Emotiva is just way to big lol
