Bottlehead Crack + Speedball would be good. Donāt need a nuclear power plant for it even the liquid spark can drive it just fine just wonāt sound the greatest. Asgard 3 works great. Liquid platinum I think would work fantastically if you balance mod the headphone
ive always been curious how the lyr would drive theseā¦ tons of power and some tubey stuff
can confirm the bhc+sb is outstanding with the 880
either of these youād have to stretch your budget though
maybe a lake people amp? heard they are pretty good too. Not tried them myself though. Honestly, with his love for bright headphones not quite sure why ant doesnāt just go grab the T1 or 1990. I mean the T1 pairs incredibly well with his dark voice and 1990 pairs incredibly well with his RNHP lol. Stands to gain more from upgrading the headphone no?
I canāt speak for ant but personally id love to try a t1.2 but also sometimes I think the 880 is the perfect Beyer for me lol
T1.2 is definitely more relaxed compared to the 880 and a hell of a lot bassier with quite a lot more body to itās sound. More rounded bass. 1990 is more similar to the 880s using itās analytical pads.
The Lyr 3 is pretty great with DT880 but it is $499. I think I saw some on the B stock sale for $50 off. My Bifrost 2 was a B stock and it must just have been a return as there were no issues or damages to it at all.
does detail retrieval take a hit? your description is inline with what ive heard so im sure ill pick one up eventuallyā¦ maybe focus will have them on sale soon
In my opinion yeah a little bitā¦ Itās still very detailed and the bass definitely isnāt real natural like the 880s. Itās relatively closer to the 990s if anything(excluding that extremely sharp ethereal treble). 1990s is the one with all the detail and surgical sound seems they wanted a bit more fun approach with the t1 which is fine and all.
Edit: should add I think thats one of the bigger issues with the 1990 while the T1 has the most amp scaling to itās sound and yes you can definitely find pads to recess back the bass or brightness and it responds very well to equalization the 1990 over there only seems to respond well to solid states it seemsā¦ it can use tubes and hybrids but they donāt sound as good to my experience with it.
good feedback, thanksā¦ and as usual I come out wanting to try the t1ās
I really like both, though I am currently digging around trying to see if the T1 can react like the 1990s do with their pad swaps. I would like to see if I canāt turn the T1 into a neutral bright like the analytical pads or a more balanced U type shape like the 1990s do with dekoni elite velours. If I can then I will probably actually do away with my 1990 as I like the more relaxed presentation that the T1 offers more. DT 880 was nice but it was too bass light for meā¦ 990s were my first beyer and a guilty pleasure of mine since I love the signature and the ethereal highsā¦ 1990 kinda hit that sweet spot for me that I felt the 880 was lacking. T1 was just straight up like an upgrade to the 990s
I canāt recall or im unaware if you have a tube amp? if youre chasing neutral bright in a Beyer thatās pretty much exactly how id describe the 880 on tubesā¦ fills out the bottom end bring the bass somewhere close to neutral (depending on your definition of neutral of course)
Have you ever tried the grey pads on the t1?
No, I havenāt purchased any straight Tube Amp as of yet. I do however, have the Liquid Platinum. Was going to pick up the bottlehead + SB later on. Though I like a little more than neutral to my bass as a personal preference generally speaking
@JJPablo havenāt tried any pad swaps on the T1 as of yet.
after about two weeks using the hd600 and hd650 im now listening to the 880 a lot with it and its immediately noticeable how well these jiveā¦ would be a good pickup for a Beyer fan such as yourself
Suppose it will depend on which I decide to keep. If I choose T1 then yeah I will definitely have to pick up the Tubes. Guess it will depend on how the pad swaps and other changes turn out. for the 880 I suppose pairing it to tubes and switching the pads to the black pads that are known to supposedly increase the bass would help.
Then again, my T1 is balanced to my liquid platinum so, eh? Not sure yet. lol
Does anyone know how these compare with the 6xx on the darkvoice?
well I can say they both pair well but they are entirely different headphonesā¦ adds warmth and body to both and added soundstage amongst other thingsā¦ I preferred the 880 because the 880 needs that extra help in the bass frequencies imo and has highs that can deal with a slight loss in detailā¦ the 6xx is already a warm and dark headphone and while is does okay on the darkvoice I personally prefer it on solid state which may or may not be popular opinion depending on where you look on the internet
Edit: this will vary with different tubes as well
Yea with the 6xx going from ss to tube I hear better soundstage and vocals, which i do like, but a sacrifice in some details. Ive never heard the 880s or any beyers.
if your going to get into beyers 880 is probably one of the safest places to start less you are treble sensitive which then it would be the Tygrs(though these definitely donāt need a tube amp or anything fancy lol).
IMO the 6xx becomes a completely different headphone on a tube whereas the 880 becomes a slightly different version of itself. The 6xx widens (though not extremely so), gets more bass extension and quantity and also gets more highs. The amount of detail it has depends greatly on which tubes you put in the DV, too. I donāt know that I would say it becomes less detailed on a tube, it depends on the tubes. Iām not a huge fan of the 6xx vocals, honestly. I know that makes me a heretic, but they struggle with shoutiness on the DV, IMO. The 880, though, has a slightly sweetened treble and a bit more and bit punchier bass. It pairs with the DV very well and just sounds more natural than on the other amps Iāve heard it with. For me the 880 on ss has too much treble. However on a tube itās reined in just enough that I really enjoy it for certain types of music.
