đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ω

Just the ones that came with the unit, cheapo stock tubes. Felt like asking my buddy to try the darkvoice after I had sat down with ican I like the sound of tubes and figured I may as well give the headphone another shot see how it does never know. If it turns out okay I will put some money to the side to potentialy go grab the bottlehead with some good tubes with it well
that or actually pick up the ican not sure about that one yet.

Cool cool, what dac are you able to use with it? Interested to hear your thoughts about the dv and 880, i thought they where pretty good together.

Hmm, probably my bifrost 2 if it responds well
got an e30 as well in house.

Def try both, could be interesting comparisons lol

These two are on the radar to try out aswell, if i have the chance. Havent seen much about the edition X overall, this name doesnt seem to pop off very frequently even if it seems to be a good headphone. Maybe i have to research it a bit more. Its pretty rare on the used marked here aswell.
Im interested in Focal aswell, since quite a while. Elex has interested me very much, it seems to hold a middleground between the clear and elegia/elear i guess. But in germany aswell rare as fuck and expensive if ordered from drop because of customs fee and taxes.
IÂŽm not really interested in closed backs, at least at the moment. Im alone and have no distraction around, so i can be a happy open back user
Its so hard. On the source side of things im okay for now ( dark voice and lake people, modi dac - something to replace when i go higher end i guess).
But on the headphone side, there are so many variables now and its not so easy to test them.
T1, Dt1990, Sundara, Ananda, Edition X, Focal Elex and Clear.

About Darkvoice and Dt880:
They pair really well imo but i have to say: Before i had the Lake People amp and i had only the magni2 and the darkvoice to power the 880, the darkvoice sounded so much better.
The Lake people amp really rivals that and i actually might prefer it to the darkvoice now. Im not sure on that yet.

Stock tubes actually did better than I was expecting with the dt880. There are improvements to be had with NOS but I think you’ll find them pretty decent. Glad to see you tubing the Beyers now :+1:

I had planned to get around to a otl tube amp eventually just wasn’t sure when. Not expecting some magical dramatic improvement but I will see for myself of course. Beyers are my(should be obvious) favorite brand of headphone so far so improvement to their sound is always a plus.

These really are great with a tube amp. I enjoyed them with every kind of music on my tube amp with some help from a Schiit Loki. I have not even tried a different amp yet. I was Shocked at the performance for the dollar value. :+1:

Everybody says that they are very amp dependent, but if you have a good amp or two, they are a no brainer.

Anyone here having a hard time finding the 600ohm variants?

Ones that are not jacked up on Ebay?

I can’t even find them on the official site. Did they discontinue these?

#blamem0n

They’re not discontinued. DT990 600’s recently ran out of stock everywhere too but they are available again.

I bought them from Thomann UK in Europe and I am in eastern Canada. Great price and fast shipping from Germany.

I see. Now I wait.
Here’s to hoping the wait isn’t too long.

May I ask where you found the 600 ohm black model? They seem to no longer be in production and I can’t find them anywhere online. I love the look of the black way more than the standard silver/grey one.

Beyer seems to be having further issues with productions. Lots of out of stock

@Falenkor Did you by chance have some time with the dv and 880 yet?

Had a deep focused listening session yesterday night and found a few things out and have to take back a few things i said. First: i cannot sell my LCD2C. Because, like i said, i realized again why i have them and that they are awesome. Selling them to get money for other headphones is not the right way, i just have to save money.
Listened to the 880 first and i came to the conclusion that the treble can be piercing at times. For normal listening i actually like it, but i realized that i canÂŽt stand it all the time. So the T1 with its more relaxed sound may not the worst option
And i had an actual wow effect plugging the 880 in my Darkvoice in this night. Holy crap what a change in sound. First time i have really heard all the changes tubes make. Especially the soundstaged got so wide in comparison.
Listening now, i canÂŽt hear it that good anymore :worried:

I am Really getting attached to these 'phones.

I have been enjoying them immensely with my tube amp and the assistance of a Schiit Loki.

I tried it on my Violectric for about 5 minutes with zero pre-gain and it sounded good. Yesterday I tried it again with the dip switch set to maximum (+12 Db’s). It was great, but just seemed like too much, after a while. I was thinking that with a 600 Ohm headphone, you want to max that gain. Volume was at 10:00-11:30, depending on the music. Nice but

Today I started out with going to #3 on the dip switch panel (+6Db’s). And this is where the adjustments end. I have found the sweet spot.
Volume ranges from 11:00 to 12:30ish, depending on the music. The mids sound great, the bass is very present and I don’t find them too bright, up to this point. This is a LOT of audio goodness for $310.00 in Canuck bucks! :+1:

2020 will go down as one of the shittiest years in recent history. However, personally, this has been a great year for audio goodness, for me. When I look at other gear now, it is idle curiosity.
Music has never sounded better or even close to how it sounds now. And I am old!

Great day for tons of Steely Dan and Dave Matthews Band.

I’ve been listening to my DT880 for a couple of hours today already through Zen dac with bass boost and Liquid Platinum. I’ve balanced modded my 880 and powering it off the LP’s balanced output. WOW. These 880’s scale up to higher quality amps REALLY well. Their already great midrange timbre gets that much better. Their already strong spatial recreation gets even better on the LP. For $200 the DT880-600 is a real steal, folks. Like, really.
