Reddit av exchange and headfi are the sites that Iâve used with success buy and sell PayPal generally works well, you can send money to someone and a small fee will come out of the total for buyer protection.
Has anyone tried the SE output on the RME ADI-2 with these? Howâd they sound?
New to the hifi guide and I will buy the dt 880 600 ohm. For the amp what would be better, a zen can or a sp200?
I mean personally neither of those are ideal options with the 880 600 ohm imo, the sp200 is going to be too harsh and unrefined in the treble, and might lack body, the Zen can would be better, but ideally you would want to balance mod the 880 in order to use the balanced out of the Zen can
I can confirm it sounds pretty nice on the Zen CAN. I think Zeos said it sounds better on the Zen Can than the SP200. But you need to consider balance modding as well. Welcome to the forum.
Perhaps he is figuring out what a good amp sounds like now lol
Someone else can elaborate on the sound for you since I have not heard it myself, but the main go to recommendation would be the Asgard 3 at itâs price range. Doesnât mean you wonât prefer something else in the price range, but the most common choice seems to be the Asgard 3 at itâs price. What price are you looking at exactly?
You mentioned not liking the more laid back nature of the lcd2c so you may not appreciate the T1 as much either as itâs very relaxed and wide sounding in comparison. 1990 has that aggression. Also maybe try the hifiman sundara or ananda as they are planars with that similar signature(granted maybe not as aggressive still) to the 880.
Making me think of clamp force. If the headphone sounds aggressive, make the clamp force aggresive and vice versa.
Like @Falenkor said, i was gonna suggest the sundara as well, very detailed and simular sound signature. Going from there to more higher end, if you can get a hifiman edition x v2 or focal clears, you would probably be super happy if you like the dt880s. And for closed backs, you would probably be really happy with the focal elegia. A really well done neutral with good bass impact and great clarity in the mids and highs
Edit: I do feel the timbre on the dt880 is pretty nice, especially with warmer sounding amps. You may find some of the mid tier reccomended headphones may lack in the timbre department, but they could be more revealing, and better seperation and other things.
The 880 sounds good on the SP200. But the Asgard 3 is cheaper than the SP200 and probably would be better for it. The Lyr 3 is very good with the 880, but it is $500.
Recived the black version yesterday. Much nicer looking than the standard grey/silver. As expected these scale so well with the 800i, especially compared to the basX a100. The a100 is just too dirty. It does however have the more slam in the low end, but the 800i just smooths everything out in lush neutral detail. They came with black pads, but the grey pads are much better, fwiw.
Yeah, the DT880 600 is one of those rare audio products that actually does punch above its weight. Many products are said to, few actually do. The DT880 is comfortable right along side much more expensive headphones. It may not do as many things as well as an Elegia, for example, but it does a few things arguably better - mid range timbre being one example, IMO.
For sure, comfort wise though I wish the headband was taller or something. Timbre though is on point for how cheap they are. Out of the headphones ive tried, only the nighthawks, eikon, and clears beat it out
@M0N says the 880 also pairs really well with the Liquid Plat when balanced modded. Since I balanced my 880 I am really looking forward to trying this combo out.
Yea been thinking about getting an lp, should give me more impact with the hexv2 and Eikons, and would love to mod this one too and try it out(sold my last one) also have a silver one on loan from my brother to mod as well hahah.
I feel like a more fair comparison is the Elex vs the 880. The Elegia are closed back and itâs near impossible to make a great closed back under 1k. I think that compared to the Elex, 880 wins most categories on the right amps. The Elex though is so easy to drive and sounds about the same on everything.
Havenât heard the elex, but I did compare the clears to the 880, but the clears ARE the better headphone lol the elegias are an amazing headphone under $1k. They compliment the 880s pretty good. If someone was just gonna buy a headphone without worrying about an amp, they should go elegia/elex. But as far as value goes, the clears plus the right amp is gonna cost $1k plus, and the 880, and the right amp could be <$350. The elex and elegia would fit in between since they arenât as amp picky, but the elegia, ime, pairs well with different amps.
Yeah, bout to sit down with the regular silver 600 ohm dt 880 been meaning to try it on tubes(since I now have a darkvoice in house itâs borrowed though lol) see how it performs⊠definitely want this version though if I happen to like the headphone on tubes as I think the black looks a lot better.
Darkvoice is nice with them. What tubes are you using?
