Very interesting. I am curious about the T1.2. The T5p.2’s put me off of Beyers, but these 880’s are sounding wonderful!
I am several days into Loki/tube amp/880’s and I am Very impressed. If the T1.2’s are even better, I have to try them out.
They’re pretty sweet and a tier or two above the 880 I think but the 880 is pretty special and seems to be like the senn 600 series and nighthawks in that there isn’t a clear upgrade path from them. Glad you’re enjoying them
They are doing special things on my tube amp. MUCH more than the HD600’s.
@ShaneD Been meaning to ask about the Loki. I’m considering it and would be interested in your further comments specifically about it, tho dont want to hijack this thread. thx
The DT880 has been great with the Lyr 3 with a westinghouse tube in it. I don’t have a Loki but I do have the Bellari EQ and it’s very good and about $40 cheaper on Amazon than the Loki.

Since we talked about the upgrade path, T1 and 1990, I think I will not just buy the T1, even though I’m interested in it. After reading the T1 thread and doing some other research, it seems very good but I’m not really sure if it would justify +580€ over the price of the 880. So I will do what I thought and try to test them at the store near me sometime in the future. I will know better than.
Probably it will be better to shell out money for something else to experience more other brands or different signatures to find out better what I like.
Actually a very good idea honestly. Also, as far as the price goes I would wait till they go back to being on sales again… covid has everything screwed up… Last year you could see dt 1990 over there at around $350 - $400 range on head-fi
I’m looking to complement my Sundara with a dynamic. Would these work ok with e30 >Atom, or would I need Asgard 3 or…
The Atom will power them fine. IMO, the Atom and 880 are not the best sonic matches. Also, while I’ve not heard Sundara, my understanding is it’s also a neutral-bright signature. You wouldn’t really be getting a complementary headphone so much as a competing headphone with a different driver type. So, complement how? What kind of sound are you looking for?
While I like the Sundara a lot, I really enjo the sound of the lower end Koss trio, ksc 75 being the fav. Tho not as detailed, of course, it seems more forward and enjo able with a bit more fullness. fyi I have some mid/hi hearing loss and listen to mostl female vocals and Orchestral, and piano. PS 58x sounds natural, but is too narrow for me.
I have kissed the ass of these like Z, since i got em n put em on my a100 but i gotta say this attatched cord is beyond awful. I have now tripped over this long ass mofo 3x. Sigh. Ok rant over but cmon, its 2020. No more attatched plz
Just get a flexible cable organizer or just tie it. I too hate the long ass cable.
Yeah, Covid has screwed everything but I guess prices in germany are still okay since the headphones are made here. The 1990 go for around 400 the last month and even used they are not that much cheaper. I guess it’s an okay pricing for it, but like you say, maybe they will go on sale and be even a bit cheaper. T1 would be something to get from the Beyer Outlet as b-stock for 600 instead of normal 800. I will see. For now I will hold my hands still and resist the urge to buy a headphone
I great dynamic compliment to the sundaras would be an Audioquest Nighthawk. Deeper bass, wider, warmer, unique imaging, better timbre, easier to drive. Can be found 250-350 used, since they have been discontinued. There is a carbon version, and the original version. Just go check out the Nighhawks thread.
Correction to me previous statement, it does actually sound great on SH-8 balanced but you have to disable SDB, set it to Direct. It still sounds better on tube, imo, but now I dont ‘need’ to upgrade SH-8
By “full” I’m interpreting “more bass” as the Sundara is not known for its bass. Is this accurate? If so, it’s a question of how much more of it you want. DT990 600 has a V-shaped signature that will give you more low end and still retain a fair amount of detail, but still not match the Atom very well, IMO. The Senn HD6XX will give you more warmth than Sundara but may still suffer from narrowness you didn’t like. Meze 99 Noir will go heavy into the bass but not give much detail.
@WaveTheory Not bass but a richer sound w. more “fullness”
Perhaps this is the d namic vs planar sound people refer to. I have not heard higher end d namics and use the Koss as an example of the more “in your face” presentation that I seem to enjoy. Again, I do love the Sundara for it’s detail, soundstage and imaging, and it has enough bass for me if its in the music, but the Koss ksc75 presentation is just natural and fun; tho of course not nearly the same qualit .
Bmn1251 mentioned the Nighthawks which sounds like a possibilit but I have never bought used, so am unfamiliar with that whole process (but willing to learn, as others seem to enjoy doing that.) Thanks for any further suggestions.
@ Bmn1251 Thanks for the suggestion. I have read comments on Nighthawks before and that could be a solution. No experience with used purchases so would need to learn ins and outs of that process.
