After more listening Iām going to go out on a limb here and say that if classical music is your jam, the DT880/600 is the thing to get.
Listening now to Bernstein conducting Sibelius symphonies on Tidal, and wow. Wonderful sound, great sound stage and imaging, and revealing in some interesting ways. I think, for example, I just heard the turning of music score pages.
So I would say that the e30 and actually instead of an atom a magni 3+ or liquid spark can get it done, but you do get a sizable improvement going with an asgard 3 imo, also it would give a nice performance bump to your sundara as well so I would say itās pretty worthwhile, but if you are pressed for funds the magni3+/ls would work pretty well
@dcofficehack Yes, mostly classical and female vocals (Barielles, Barlow, etc.) Just feel like the 58x Iāve heard and the Koss ksc 75 gives me a more forward or just different presentation than the Sundaraā¦dynamic vs Planar. Have to go, but will appreciate any comments. Thanks.
+1 for the 880. I mean, I love my HD6XX. But since I got into the 880 and recently the T1.2 ā¦
I have no intention to grab my 6XX. But I used the 6XX for nearly two years soā¦great headphone but now I would definetly vote for the 880. So great!
Also, Iāve been listening to the Asgard today as I donāt yet have a balanced cable to play a borrowed set of Audeze on my Liquid Plat. Every time I go back to the Asgard I think āDamn, this is such a good amp for $200.ā
@WaveTheory And Iām already full of cake (and my homemade reubens with sister and daughter.) VERY tempting. and thanks for the birthday wishes. Iāve been around a long time; have sung, played, conducted and listened to a LOT of music, but I have never enjoyed listening as much as I do now. All this technology and refinement of equipment, streaming at the touch of a keyboard and Amazing level of detail, richness and overall quality is absolutely wonderful to me, who started out with monaural 78ās!!
Cool. I can appreciate what you say. Iāve always loved music and audio. It got even crazier when I first got a Tidal subscription. Then the music I could listen to was no longer constrained by what my album/file-buying budget could allow. I went even deeper into audiophilia. No regrets.
Thatās the thing about not having the option of ever getting to demo stuff. I just try to work with whatās said and what I know fro my own experiences. I am bad with this audiophile descriptions on how something sounds but I can grasp what you said about the 880 and it feels inline with my own experience. To that effect I feel Iād be somewhat disappointed. Maybe if I didnāt have the 880s but who knows?
A downside to my DT880/600 - Asgard 3 combo: Some recordings simply are better than others. Iāve been able to hear the difference before, but now the difference is in greater relief. I am becoming pickier. And thereās no way to predict which will be good or bad: listening on Tidal to different versions of, say the same Bach cantata, I find meaningful differences in recording quality, but information like record labels or orchestras donāt predict the sound.
