is the chrome special edition the same as the standard dt880 600 ohm? assuming they also have the grey pads as well. Just a cosmetic difference?
Assuming they have the grey pads and are the same ohm then yes they are the same
Look at the big brain on Brett!!!
Thatâs a really good idea. I didnât think of it at the time. It was more like this:
âHmmm, ohhhhhh, yuck! Nope!â
Followed by the sound of a return label printing.
ok thanks again M0N. I see a few pairs for pretty cheap probably going to pull the trigger on one
any suggestions for increasing the headband comfort? was probably going to get a pilot pad for my x00âs which i could use on these too. Just curious if there were any other suggested/better options.
Some people wrap soft cloth around it. I donât know for sure though, I have never done it.
Ok thanks, will probably go with the pilot pad, was just curious about other options. Theyâre not the most comfortable for me but I actually really like the way they sound
So Iâve had these a little less than a week, and I have to say Iâm really enjoying them. I had been using the black pads until the grey ones came in which I know is not ideal. The black pads are definitely stiffer by a lot, and while i donât think the treble audibly sounded harsh to me it did start to hurt my ears on some higher pitched songs. That being said even with the black pads I found these to be very immediately pleasing, still trying to nail down why. Overall Iâm really happy with these cans and I think they are a super solid offering in the under 200 category. Definitely piqued my interested in the higher end Beyer offerings
side note I could just be an idiot but changing the pads was a huge pita for me
Yeah, beyer pads can be tricky to change.
Would you say you like the sound more with the silver pads?
So I wouldnât say I personally can really hear the difference, but I listened to the same tracks that hurt my ears before with no issue. With the black pads i didnât really feel like the sound was all that sharp and piercing, but after a few minutes of some higher pitched horns i did feel some discomfort. Could be Iâm just not great at identifying it yet. For comfort alone though Iâd say the silver pads are a must.
Yeah, so the not hurting part is probably due to the silver pads bringing down some of the sibilance and harshness that can be hard to detect.
yeah thatâs my thought as well. I figured Iâd be more able to audible hear the sibilance but again that could be due to my inexperience. I mostly got them from all the gaming recs theyâve gotten on here, but am really surprised how much i enjoy the sound sig for music
Yeah, they are great for a lot of things. Music listening, competitive gaming, even music production on a budget.
update on this for anyone who might be considering a pilot pad. The zmf pad fits but just barely, not the most elegant solution. My fault as I did not check the dimensions. It fits and does the job I need it too so fine for me, but some might be bothered by it only closing on the ends and being kind of open in the middle. Side note works and fits great on the X00âs
would you guys consider the 1990 a 100% upgrade to the 880s? I know theyâre higher tier, but as the 1990s are the direct upgrade to the 990s, which are apparently more v-shaped than the neutral 880s, are you losing anything going to the 1990s from the 880s?
Personally I actually prefer the tuning of the 880 600 ohm more, so for me at least thatâs a downside but otherwise itâs mostly an upgrade
what do you prefer about the 880s sig? I like my 880s a lot which has gotten me interested in the 1990, and presented an opportunity to sell mine to upgrade. but I wouldnât be opposed to having both if they are different enough or i guess maybe not even upgrading
I think the 880 600 is more neutral in signature and presentation, and also a bit more coherent, but I think for most the better technicalities of the 1990 is a worthwhile trade off
would you say the sound stage and imaging on the 1990s is an improvement or on par with the 880s? both for gaming and music.
love the sound of the 880s and been really liking them for warzone lately
I would say solid improvement over the 880 imo
