got the 700 in the other day… been using them for a bit… is it just me or is this almost the same signature just with a bit more in the bass region? Like, I do like these headphones? but, I can’t honestly justify the price tag as I am failing to see whats so spectacular with these compared to their respective predecessors. Like the 900 pro x doesn’t replace the dt 880 600 ohm for me… it feels like it fits into a more niche area for like streamers or something who really don’t want an amp of sorts. Perhaps I need more time with these.
Do you mean relative to the DT 900 Pro X? I felt the two are very similar seeing as the DT 900 Pro X seems more semi-open. So there is very little difference to me as well. But the DT 700 being closed back does have slightly more bass and less soundstage. But these two things seem ever so slight to me. I am thinking if I was to keep only one I may keep the DT 700 since it’s pretty decent for being a close back. I have plenty open back headphones to choose from.
okay so im not crazy then. Yeah I mean the 900 pro x. The signature is pretty much exactly the same just the differences between closed and open back change the sound a little…
I personally, won’t be keeping either one of these. I do think they are worth while in buying but the price is a bit much less you really want a beyer without that heavy handed treble. These resolve extremely well and the detail is extremely good, soundstage is a bit smaller, imaging is still ridiculous and is 3d as hell. If anything I would call this a Side grade to the original DT lineup just with thicker pads(and a hotspot I have noticed on the top of my head.)
This is like… if you don’t want to spend money on an amp with a strong motherboard or other source that can push them, you like streaming or something, you don’t like excessive treble, you want a balanced approach, you like detachable cables, and you don’t mind spending a bit extra to get beyer performance so like fps gamers would love this
On a side note? Can I get the damn pads for my T1 beyer??? I love how smooth these feel in comparing to the dekoni
Yea I have been leaving both headphones stretched out overnight which helped with the clamp. I do feel the hotspot like you said, but I guess it doesn’t bother me too much after a while. But the original headband is way more comfortable than these. My TYGR 300r is super comfy being that it also has the Dekoni headband on top.
You what keeps coming to mind with these headphones is these are a “safe and easy to recommend purchase”. That is if you don’t care about a purchase for an amp/dac. (I have mainly just been using these with the ifi Zen Dac V2)
Yea that would be really awesome if they could sell these for the older models
Yea that would be really awesome if they could sell these for the older models.
Plus one on that!
INCASE ANYBODYS WONDERING theres your 700 pro x there facing off with the 80 ohm 770. You can definitely see the dial back on that treble there, better upper mids are seen there, and the bass is smoother yet still raised… on the 900 pro x I get practically the same but the bass is more neutral in line with the mids…
theyd probably make quite a lot of money… dekoni velours are very popular for like 1990
yeah this is what I am seeing, which is fine. It doesn’t specifically make me the targeted consumer of this and I am okay with that, I can still safely recommend these as they are absolutely not bad at all. I just can’t justify the price tag of $100 more than the original so to speak since the DT 770 there can be bought for like… $100 mint condition toss in a cheap amp/dac combo unit thatll bring you up to like $170-$200… and you still save $100… add dekoni velours and your still only up to like $240… no matter how I look at it these headphones are just a little bit too much in the price bracket… I could see these being worth $250 but not much higher than that
I’m a yes to all of these so that’s why they’re a win for me haha
Where did you get the frequency response? That’s super helpful to see it visually, I knew they quelled the treble a little bit which was a pleasant surprise. I’ve been driving them back and forth on tubes and the Jot 2 and it’s taken a little while to get used to them but now they sound great; these will be a keeper for me.
I’m hoping the pads hold up, they’re super comfy and isolate well.
youtuber named Nouvraught(kudos for that btw if your out there somewhere appreciate the graph) posted a review on the two here and had the frequency graph for it.
so something I got outta the 900 pro x and I highly encourage doing is something with IFI or a bass boost… more so ifi later models where you get that 3d button and bass button? You get similar back to the 990 actually lol it sounds good to be honest. Bass button on the 700 I mean… is it a bit much sure but its fun and doesnt break
I couldnt get linsoul to sell the pads off the zeus… though beyer is know to sell spare parts… I want these pads beyer… without the friggin adapter glued on… make this happen for all your headphones as an extra accessory
lol I was just about to say… this is the one thing I do with these headphones on the ifi Zen Dac V2… turn on the bass boost to turn them into the “fun” headphone.
I would bet someone is going to come along and 3D print the adaptor. Then I would think we could maybe try the Dekoni pads. (Or Dekoni maybe does this first?)
That would be weird… a neutral beyer with pad swap and ampless? Talk about a unique approach.
I will say they respond very well to EQ… just by playing with the Loki it does well
I think DMS and Zeos should sit with the 900 pro X hell even joshua could appreciate it since hes intolerant to high amounts of treble… this may be right up his alley
just now noticed beyer has started selling the foam insert of the 3rd gen T1 in spare parts on their site which works on 2nd gen… I would love to have these pads with that foam insert that’d be killer. Come to think of it… I should probably remove the foam piece on this if I can see what happens
I sent some inquiry out to beyer on the expected life span and if theres plans to sell these soon in spare parts, also on if they plan to release a variant to them for the other beyers. Probably will get nowhere with them as of late their customer service has been total ass but we will see.
How does the 900 pro x compare with the 880 600ohm?
I removed the padding from the DT 900 Pro X and added the Dekoni head padding. @Falenkor this helps remove the hot spot on top of the head.
880 vs 900 pro x? I should be able to answer that for you
Lets see
Soundstage: 900 wins this here… not by much but its noticeably larger and has a more 3d imaging space to it
Imaging: 900 wins here… places stuff further. more accurate… better air quality too
Separation of instruments: 900 wins here but they are close to even
Timbre: 880 feels a bit less natural due to the over emphasized treble in comparison but both are still quite natural and very nice… they aren’t total timbre monsters though
Detail retrieval: 880 only if its properly driven… basic amp/dacs wont cut it. 900 has plenty of detail and resolves very well however 880 is an absolute detail monster
amp dependancy: 880 requires a good setup 900 does not and can be driven off some phones and motherboards. However, due to the nature of low ohms 900 not only doesn’t have like any scaling at all but also isnt the best for tube amps
signature differences: 900 is very neutral 880 is a neutral bright… while 900 does have brighter treble its not as bright or sharp
lows: 880 is more impactful and sounds more raised than the 900 here but both are close to neutral… 900 has a more rounded relaxed bass tone comparable to the T1
Mids: 880 is definitely more in your face mid centric and aggressive here. 900 does have very good mids but they are very neutral. Both have good transparent mids and plenty of detail so this is a flip of a coin
highs: if were comparing these two… the 900 sounds like it has a small scoop somewhere while it does have a bright peak its extremely refined and smoothed out. 880 can appear sharp and a bit clinical/analytical
Cables: detachable mini 3 pin vs attached cable on the 880
Build: 880 hands-down feels sturdier… this feels a touch lighter but theres a hotspot on the head that does not seem to go away on the 900 at the same time the clamp is pretty damn bad and needs stretched out… 880 is wearable out of the box and comfortably stretches out within like a day.
Sound versatility: 900 has practically none of this whatsoever… no pad swaps, no tubes or tube rolling, no scaling with higher grade equipment. 880 has a fully flexible sound signature, many varieties of pads, can be on tubes, and scales like crazy
Price point: DT 880 can be found mint at $100 meanwhile this new is a little over $300
Overall, the DT 880 in a nutshell(provided you have the equipment) in my opinion is just a better headphone for the money. You just -get- more out of the DT 880 in comparison. However, the sound signature and way they represent music are different… so this is up to what the person is looking for. This headphone seems to cater towards those who really appreciate a very balanced sound and maybe wanted more balanced out of the DT 880 with a larger stage however, you lose quite a bit in terms of overall clarity and detail from a fully driven 880
This headphone caters towards someone who:
Wants a Beyerdynamic instead of Sennheiser usually due to performance reasonings such as soundstage, imaging, and comfort. Since the 900 can definitely compete with those in the 600 series
May play games, wants a balanced approach, and a strong presence in fps gaming
Got the 880 however, found it was too bright for them and the pads weren’t the best…
Heavily prefers a neutral sound signature to be a more jack of all trades approach
Prefers to be ampless whether it be for desk space or other reasons such as just saving money
Prefers the buy it and not look any further approach while getting as much sound quality and detail as possible within this price bracket
However, for those of us who actually have the money and the setup? The DT 880 is better suited as its essentially what can be seen as a side grade… with DT 1990 and T1 above them being seen as still a solid upgrade in overall performance. If one still wanted the more neutral or mid centric route above the dt 880, 900, and sennheisers… one should look towards Focal
Overall I found the 900 to be quite damn impressive despite ampless… its level of detail, ability to resolve, transparency, Transient, and speed are quite something… and its typically something I only found with the proper setup… its a budget option that gets you most of the way there without needing to spend over $400
gonna try that in just a minute… that just -looks- comfortable as hell
Currently gaming with the 700 pro X tonight. I gotta say, these actually kick some ass. I might actually keep these for my well rounded closed back. I have been needing a good pair like this for some time. I do agree as well to the previous isolation comments… they isolate surprisingly well for a velour padded headphone yet the space and stage still remains pretty big just like the DT 770 can perform. I wasn’t the biggest fan of 770 due to just too much bass and not enough mids
Do you think the DT700X is a lot better for gaming than the DT770? Does it come close to the DT1990?
I personally dont really like the DT770 250 Ohm for Competitive Gaming. Don’t get me wrong, i think its a lot better than most closed gaming headsets out there, but i would never take it over my DT1990 or HD560s. Im also looking for a closed back option for Competitive Gaming, but i haven’t really found one that satisfies me.
