not possible without modification due to the usage of a 3 pin mini xlr instead of 4 pin just like the DT 1990 which uses the same plug and cannot be balanced without the same modification.

Not sure why they are veering away from the high impedance… perhaps they think they no longer need it? No idea, I would love to see a higher ohm variation to this or something down the way… but, lets be real they won’t even make variations to the 880 over there… I am not completely convinced they fully pay attention to consumers wants in a few areas… This headphone definitely addressed a lot of problems though… the overly bright nature of the headphone(gone), high impedance relying on powerful amps(gone), overly thin pads that become flat after roughly a year or less depending on usage(pads are like twice as thick now and plush as hell), detachable cables not being seen in lower models(now uses 3 pin mini xlr), mids being a sore spot in quite a lot of beyers due to V signature(they seem to have taken one from sennheiser in these… the mids are a lot more present now and quite clear so far)
I was extremely bummed out by the 3rd gen T1 if I am being quite honest when I realized the scaling was practically gone, whats the point in having higher end equipment if it does practically nothing for my headphone that costs over a grand?
well the fact these are so low impedance really kills out Tube amps which have been a very good pairing for a long time in most of their lineup. No balanced either so some amps that really have changed signature or better traits in those balanced ports can’t really make use of that here… I made that remark that I was annoyed by this decision previously as I find it an oversight personally.
It does appear they want to appeal to a much larger audience with low impedance headphones though

Well what matters in the end of the day is how they sound, if they are decent set for the price i can mange without balanced, but it is a real shame. I wonder if anyone tries to mod them how hard is it
I am fairly curious if perhaps they plan to release a “premium” variation to these much like they did with the dt 770 880 and 990… that would be quite interesting in my opinion. Would give them the possibility to add balanced and high impedance drivers since the others in the DT series for pro was only 250 ohms tops but the premiums were the 600 ohms. I think its something I will be keeping an eye on just incase…
as for these, modding doesn’t look like itd be too complicated… I wonder if that guy on Etsy will offer a modding service for these.
That’s great to hear and I agree. Looking at most recent releases on the lower end MMX300, Tygr 300R seem to have a few winners and I hope they keep the streak going.
Pads and the detachable cable awesome to see. On all my beyers I’ve replaced the pads and it’s a must they’re so sensitive to pad choice… I know this sounds funny but I find their headphones are more sensitive to pads than tubes… [theyre affected by them but not as dramatic]
Would like to read a comparison between the dt 1990 pro vs. dt 900 pro x vs. tygr and also 700 pro x vs. dt 1770 pro
The Dt 1990 is the next hp on my buy list. I would like to compare it with my sundara. I am still mussing the crazy imaging of the tygr sometimes, but for gaming i took the zeus a few months age and have sold the tygrs
Quick take with a few of my thoughts…
I did some A/B testing the Tygr 300 against the DT 900 pro x and my quick take on it was, the Tygr 300 is going to be more warm and still has a bit more sound stage. The DT 900 pro x does still have that decent wide sound stage as Beyer are know to have but I think it is slightly less here. The sound for the DT 900 I think is like they crossed the DT 880 with something like the Tygr 300 and this is what you get. (I don’t own and have not owned the DT 990 so I can’t compare that sound). I was testing on my D90se > Burson Soloist 3X and also the Zen Dac V2 to Zen Can stack and I didn’t noticed too much of a difference with the DT 900 pro x in terms of scale. I mean it just sounds good, which ain’t bad. I also tried them on a the Meizu dongle dac and sound great there too.
I did also compare them with the DT 880 600 ohm and I will say I do like the DT 880 here more only because it scales with the Burson amp I have. But again… the DT 900 pro x does a great job for what it is.
My only real complaint about both the DT 700 pro x and the DT 900 pro x is that they are not as comfortable as the Tygr 300 or the DT 880. They have some serious clamp. It may let up a bit with use though. And I am not really a fan of the headband too on this new headphone… you can feel the hot spot at the top where on the others I never really felt the top of the headphone at all.

I’m pretty skeptical on the comfort of the pads since I absolutely loved the comfort on the DT770 Pro 80ohms that I have. these ones look slightly ‘sharper’ unlike their predecessors. Again, I don’t own them and I probably won’t but, it’s probably just a personal gripe.
Yea the pads on the new series are not bad… it’s more of the clamping pressure and the top padding being changed on the headband where I have personal issues with. With time the clamping may settle in and won’t be too much of an issue
I’ll hop in here and add that, as with most subjective things, I don’t experience this at all lol. They feel super comfy and I’ve had them on for about 3 hours this morning with no issues, so YMMV.
I’ll also add in that some people experienced the “too much clamping force” issue on the 6XX and that’s just something that never bothered me, so take that for what it’s worth. Maybe I just don’t have a wide head haha

Yea I am comparing them more to the Tygr 300r and the DT 880. Those are a more comfortable to me personally. I don’t really notice the older models on my head as much as these new units. But I can feel that they are breaking in a bit. In time I think it will be fine. I haven’t tried to also just leave them sitting on a foam block or anything like that either. Which could also probably help my case.
Yeah I have the TYGRs as well and I love them, they’re also very comfortable but more comparable to the 770 I think. This 700 Pro X went a different direction with such deep, plushy pads.
I am not excited about the termination choice, the impedance, nervous about some of the tuning Beyer may be moving towards. All that said, this looks like the comfiest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m also willing to suspend suspicions for awhile and I think this will help them sell more headphones as the potential tuning change and lower impedance will be more broadly appealing to more potential customers.
There’s some discussion of clamp, but as these are the “Pro” designation, clamp has been a factor in past with these.

The small cables don’t feel flimsy nor like they‘d break easily, but I‘m the kind of person who‘d rather be prepared in advance. I‘ll keep them and want them to last a long time. If they‘ll still fail in the future I can repair them anyway ^^

I feel like Mini XLR is a good choice and I can understand why they went with it. These are Professional Use Headphones first, music enjoyment second, and given that most if not all Professionals have and use 3-pin XLR it makes a lot of sense to use that kind of termination. It‘s also a rather rigid and solid connection type.
Regarding the Impedance, I‘m actually thrilled by that. They do not really change at all when given more power, and can be driven by literally anything. I love efficient designs, and at 48 Ohms / 100db SPL these are incredibly efficient, Focal levels of efficient.
I have to say, these are really damn comfy. Like having them on my head. They‘ll also keep my ears warm when out in Winter.
These are actually the first pair of Beyers that I bought, and also the first I really really like. I’ve heard a lot of Beyers but was always rather neutral towards them, neither impressed nor disappointed. My Brother has a Pair of DT 770, so I had a bunch of time to test those, and found myself to be kinda in the middle as well.
I‘m definitely having fun with the DT 700 Pro X. I hope my preventive measurements to keep them intact and enthusiasm speak for that, but I always have to say that ymmv ^^

Look at who the launch day review samples went out to on youtube. They were all pro audio focused people. I’m guessing that everything they did with these was focuses on fixing the gripes the pro audio community had with the 770 and 990 with consumers being an afterthought. I’m sure a bunch of “which impedence do I buy” questions from people with various weak audio interfaces influenced them introducing such an easy to drive version.
I’m almost positive customcans will do it, he had mentioned in youtube comments on a 1990 mod video about doing it for that model in the past.
Its a shame that the 177x are a redheaded stepchild from beyer, because the solution could be as simple as ordering that jack with associated connectors since beyer loves reusing small parts between headphones. I’ve never seen a picture of the internals of one of those so obviously, I could be wrong.

These are fast as fuck. So fast it‘s ridiculous for a DD. They honestly remind me of Planar Magnetics in that regard. That speed is especially apparent in fast electronic music or guitar strings for example.

The Dynamics, both Microdynamics and Macrodynamics, are really nice.

Sound Signature I‘d describe as neutral-bringt, with the brightness being on the tamer side

It sounds like the treble peak of past Beyer Headphones has been taken care of, and the overall Treble is now much smoother without sounding recessed or loosing on detail. Have yet to come across sibilance.

Even though they are neutral-bright, Bass is present (as it should be for a closed back) and has nice impact and texture. Gives it a ever so slight warm touch which can be decieving.

Bass is also very well controlled and precise in its attack. It does not bleed into the mids, on some tracks ever so slightly, but the separation is very good without loosing coherency. I like the Bass on these much more than, let’s say the 770 or 1770.

Mids are much more present compared to prior Beyer Headphones. They got a nice clarity to them. Quite honestly, that makes them both great for monitoring and listening to vocal performances.

I love listening to acoustic tracks, orchestra or rock on these. Makes me wanna listen more and more.

I mean, it does make sense to want to appeal more to your professional crowd in beyers case… they have quite the reputation.
not just that but what is the difference between impedance… it doesn’t help that beyers support lines fail to explain the differences if you ask them and if you ask them about the tygr they tell you the 990 is exactly the same… which is not even remotely true.
considering how easy these are to drive and the lack of scaling… I really dont see it necessary at this point.
