đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic T1 Gen2

It depends on your amp and setup, personally on a good amp I don’t find them boomy but ymmv

Ok I was using a3 and Modius. I have the 1990 and when I first got them used the balanced pads. I tried them with the a pads for about 2 seconds and at that time I didn’t like them but
I guess my sound preference has changed over the last year or so and now I don’t like the b pads. To me the T1 low end sounds like the 1990 with the b pads.

Hmmmmm. You could go higher on the amp to better address bass control, but if you aren’t liking them and your preferences have changed I don’t know if it’s worthwhile to go up amp wise and might just be a better idea to go for a different headphone

Boy thats one thing I never would consider the T1’s to be “boomy” !!! ???

This to me is really odd

I wont say its booming, but I personally dont like the modius+A3 with the t1.2nd. I prefer the modius Thx789 running balanced for the t1.2nd. The bass gets really tight and you get some fast slam.

Ok I’ll try the Modius/789 combo when I get home. I haven’t tried the T1 on anything else.

I tried my t1.2nd with the following:
Modius SE > thx789 Pass > A3 SE T1.2nd stock cable ( I test both amp)
Modius BA > thx789 BA T1.2nd after market cable

What you are hearing is not booming, is too much midbass. The midbass is like the dt990 in presentation.

Modius (warm) + a3 (warm) + SE stock cable (warm) = Warm, vocal bliss
Modius (warm) + thx789 (bright) + SE stock cable (warm) = Warm/neutral hit sibilance
Modius (warm) + thx789 (bright) + after market cable (neutral/bright?) = Tight, bass is more impactful (Almost dt1990 slam). Hit sibilance more often. This pairing is my personal favorite, I am not treble sensitive and sibilance doesn’t bother me

For some reason the t1.2nd stock cable makes headphone ssound warm. I tried them with my focal elegia. Comparing the elegia stock cable with the t1.2nd cable, the elegia is brighter and “Clearer”.

Had an incredible experience with Liquid Platinum --> T1 playing some St. Vincent - Masseduction. Vocals just yum. These headphones were made for Annie Clark music.

I had the T1.2 for about a week now, I figured I should toss up some thoughts and impressions of them so far. For some background, I am a person that usually prefers darker/warmer headphones in general. While I tend to listen to all types of music, the past week has been mostly stuck in the lands of jazz, bluegrass, classical, and dance. The sources I used for this : Schiit Modius, Schiit Asgard 3, Ifi Zen Can, Little Dot MKIII(Tubes are Mullards and Voshkods)

I have not tried too many Beyers headphones at all, but I wanted to see what a more tamed Treble headphone to start with and the T1 appeared to be a more solid choice. First thought when trying it was smooth warm laid back presentation of the headphone. I enjoyed the large staging and seperation of the headphones. At times I do miss the airy sound stage I found in other headphones with this wide of a sound stage, but as I listened more I been caring less about it. Certainly making me appreciate things I at first thought I did not like as much.

When it came to amps, in the end I liked it most out of the Little Dot. While it does sound cleaner and tighter on a solid state, I just prefer to make the presentation that much more laid back with these for most songs. Yeah I loose a bit of details, but I enjoy the laid back feeling so much more in general

Overall I do enjoy the T1s. At some point I do want to get around to trying Beyerdynamic other headphones.

I tried the T1 with 789/topping D-70 and you are right the bass tightened up a lot. I have RNHP/ Bifrost 2 and it really sounded really good I just ran out of volume for my liking. I also tried it on smsl su-8/liquid spark and liked the way they sounded with that combo to. It had more than enough volume.

After 24 hrs of pink noise and a day of listening I have some early impressions. They’re not as wide as I thought they would be but I love the staging on the t1.2 a lot. It’s very easy to pinpoint where an instrument or sound is both side to side and front to back, really enjoying that. They are very warm and I find the bass is very textured and detailed. Treble is a little dark but it’s very easy to listen to. It’s got a very complete sound imo and is working well with basically every genre I throw at it. Also comfort, build and looks are all A+ imo.

All listening has been done on a bottlehead crack + speedball and a3 multibit dac
looking forward to receiving the bifrost 2 to see how it improves things
but as is I’m very impressed

Very bassy? If so, is it good? Too much? Too little?

Yeah bassy for sure but it’s really nice imo and doesn’t seem to bleed into the mids. The driver feels fast and punchy at least on this amp. On some hip hop and electronic tracks the bass feels sort of behind the vocals sometimes so it’s pretty cool in terms of presentation
I forget the track(s) off hand and it’s still early listening but if that’s a common trait that would be pretty cool.

My idea of great is strong mids (read vocals) followed by a good solid bass.

Having a week on this. I think I prefer my stellias, i think while the stage is wider and more accurate on the T1s, The Stellias get deeper into the details and bass. And I like the tone of it.

BUT I do really like the T1s. Especially for acoustic music

That’s unfair lol glad you’re liking it though. Did you hear improvement plugged into the ifi?

Yes, it was less sibilant over all from the Interface it was plugged into.
I think I should get a hybrid tube amp to see how it changes the sound furtherx.
Its interesting how my chord and the Ifif resolve details differentlyx

When the night is dark is full of terrors, and I just want to kick back, feel good, and listen to some high fidelity music
Liquid Platinum --> T1 and I just go where the vibes take me. Tubes warm the T1 up enough where the treble melts a little bit off the top just enough to make it a chefs kiss, casual, long listening sesh can.

To the guy a few days ago that said while the sound stage wasn’t wide its placement was great, I 100% agree
and that adds to the discussion about the bass. Well recorded album, the bass comes in from the back nicely but its not slapping you in the back of the head either.

Can someone describe their sound to me compared to the DT880-600ohm and the 1990?

For the t1.2nd. They sound like a dt1990 with b-pads. But, more relaxed with more mid bass, warm vocals and a treble peak. I think the t1.2nd Sound openness is between the dt1990 a-pads and b-pads ( they are not fully open).
Bass is more fun and 3D compared to the dt1990 a-pads.
Vocals are not in your head, a little push to the front. They a treble peak, and harder on the “S”.
I like them for single player gaming, their timber is more natural sounding. The added bass makes the explosions more engaging, sounds like shots sounds well bodied.
I don’t play competitive games.
I encourage you to read some recent post in this forum. Our friend @Falenkor have both, he explains some difference too.
