šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic T1 Gen3

eh, still not the biggest fan of 3rd gen over 2nd genā€¦ just think itā€™s best to wait till it falls in price point

Hi @Falenkor! how is everything? I havenā€™t seen you in a while. Any update on your setup? do you still own the t1.3nd?
I was set to buy the t1.3nd for my past birthday. I skip it for now. My biggest concern is my DAC. I have the modius, but I think to really take advantage of my headphones and amps I need the BF2. I plan to run the t1.3nd with the RNHP and the thx789 to help with the darkness.

I have been popping in every now and then but work has got me super busyā€¦

violectric in my setup these days and a focal clear but thatā€™s about it.

I do, itā€™s still my regular use super warm headphone as I found I prefer the comfort from it instead of the heavier audezes and the fit is better for me than the hawks

I would recommend hard passing on this headphone until it really goes down by a big amount in priceā€¦ itā€™s definitely not worth focal clear prices

yeah, a clear clean amp setup will do fine for this headphone. Then again, this particular headphone doesnā€™t respond a whole lot to different amps and dacs like the other beyers. Not much scaling at all

Awesome! Which violectric? Have you tried that amp with the t1.2nd?

V220, and yeah I have. I still prefer them on tubes though, but in the case of a lot of my other headphones the violectric does a damn fine job. It just doesnā€™t get along with the bifrost 2 very much

lolā€¦ I am in the same boat here. I bought a Focal Clear and paired it up with the Lake People G111. I am really enjoying itā€¦ I havenā€™t really messed with my T1 Gen 3 in a bit now.

I have been listening to the t1.3rd for 2 days now with the A3+Modius.

This pairing is a kind of an odd ball or a guilty pleasure. The amount of bass is insane. They reminded me the dt1770 with less teble and less subbass. The excursion is presence and strong. Holding the cups I can feel the cups shaking like crazy (more than the dt770 and dt990. The t1.2nd barely shakes). It feels like the driver is overdampenned, or it just the driver producing the crazy amount of bass. They sound kind of dark ( the A3 is the warmest amp I have). The presentation reminds me of the ndh20. Wall of sound. So far they sound closed, the bass fill everything plus being forward make the soundstage feel closed. Like the dt1990 with the b-pad. Imagine takes a hit. The instrument are well placed but not outstanding as the t1.2nd crispiness. Technically they took a hit in performance. But, they offer amount of bass that make my car stereo feel tiny. After using them for 5h I went to run some errands, my car stereo sound bright LOL (it was the opposite coming from other headphones, ps. I dont have a dedicated subwoofer). Impact and quanlity for electronic music is good.

This impressions are with the A3. I switched for A few songs with the RNHP, and the teble came back to life! I bet the t1.3rd will sound a little better with the RNHP and maybe the thx789.

Edit: Fix some grammar mistakes :upside_down_face:

Yea that was my experience with them as well. If you listen to them long enough you can get use to the sound. And then when trying something else that is neutral-bright it can sound off at first.

The t1.3rd is great! I havenā€™t skip a song of my library yet! You get used to the bass and then it became tolerable. It impressed me how much slam it have. The treble is dialed back, but I can hear sibilance on certain recordings. After 5 days of use with the A3, I unlock the soundstage and imaging. The weird thing of this set is that they sound closed. When I put them on the isolate the sound more than the t1.2nd. They sound like the dt1990 b-pads in term of presentation forward enveloping bass.

I liked then a lot. Need to try them with my other amps. I dont think I will keep the set I have rn. If i really liked them with my other amps. I will sell them and buy them brand new!

Edit: the slam and bass is addicting. I havenā€™t used a warm headphones in a while ( nighthawk and tygr)

Glad you are enjoying it. Yea they are definitely a warm headphone.

Yea they are great with EDM and rap. Solid bass.

They do sound like they are a close back. They are definitely a warm sounding headphone. At first I did enjoy them. But I think once I tried the T1 2nd Gen, I preferred them more. They still had that slight warmth but also a better sound stage (even more with the Dekoni Fenestrated pads) and better detail.

I recently purchased the Focal Clear MG, if you like warmth and would like something with better detail and resolution, they are worth trying out if you are looking to purchase a brand new T1 Gen 3.

Also if you do decide to try them out, I suggest purchasing on headphones.com since they have a solid return policy. I was able to return my Sundaraā€™s after a year worth of use, minus a restocking charge but that wasnā€™t huge if you consider how much you can loose by reselling a given headphone after a yearā€™s worth of use.

Plz dontā€¦ Hahahhaa. I know @Falenkor and you moved to focal for a while.

I have wanted to try the focal clear OG for ever! now I want to try the MG too! I dont think I am ready to move to that price bracket yet. Thinking of getting the BF2 first and then I will think about moving to the clear OG to use the BF2+ RNHP miraculous stack.

Itā€™s very enjoyable once you have it broken in for sureā€¦ I just donā€™t agree with $1k+ for it lol. Though it absolutely has that closed enveloping sound to it. Itā€™s like a big step up from the tygrs imo

Iā€™d recommend he try elex first before going to a clearā€¦ focal has a certain sound to them and good lord are those mids forward probably the most mid forward I use in house. They sound absolutely incredible and I cant wait to try mg

Move to? Eh sorta I tried the whole lineup from beyer but my curiosity makes my wallet cry. Not a big fan of elears but elex and elear using the clear pads are quite niceā€¦ clears are gorgeous sounding but I like a bit more bassā€¦ might choose mg or elex over og clear

Yeaā€¦ I think the Focal Clear MG was more what you and I were hoping when going from TYGR 300 R to the T1 Gen 3. I will say more about it in the Clear MG forum when I have spent more time with them.

THIS.

There is a pair available for 675 and I am trying to justify the purchase. It would replace my tygrs. Love the 300r but if I can get darker and more low end from the t1.3, it just sounds like a good idea? Is it worth it at a lil more than 3X the price?

So the T1.3 is a much darker headphone. Donā€™t expect a direct upgrade from the TYGR 300r. I believe you read my comments on this already and where I ended up. But, I will say that isnā€™t a bad price. You would get a much better built headphone too. Will warn you that the clamp on the T1.3 is going to be a bit more aggressive than the the TYGR, so just be aware. If you do purchase it and do find that it is a too dark, you can do what I suggested and remove the damping inside the cup. I provided some pics on how to do that if you scroll up a bit (or just click on my avatar and look at the messages in the forum post).

It all sounds so good to me. As much as I want the T1.2, I really want darker sound signatures and the T1.3 is sounding like a winner for my ears especially with the option of removing the dampeners for something different.

Just wish it was a 600 OHM driver but I guess that leaves room for future iterations.

for a darker signature? yeahā€¦ its a very warm and quite dark sounding headphone. Though how much its actually worth is really up to the person. I wouldnā€™t say its at all worth $1k though

Just got these in and Iā€™ve been looking for more sound signatures like this. Thick, dark, warm, bassy, with detail and slam.

The T1.3 remind me of the cascades but with soundstage, with dark and drier sound. The mids sound dry. Enjoying them so far.

Even with all the opinions and reviews, I still held high expectations for this pair since itā€™s labeled a T1 and cost 1k retail. I agree I wouldnā€™t pay 1k for these. But I sure do enjoy them. Build quality is very nice.

Took the dampeners out and the drivers rattle around if I shake the headphones. I like the mids better without the dampeners since they seem less dry.

First impressions, to quote Z, ā€œEverything sounds a little more Barry white.ā€
