šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

well zmf has some special options to them that dekoni just doesnā€™t have. Lambskin(softer than sheepskin naturally so it has some airy qualities), Protein(you see these on Argons in some pictures these are those massive pads), Cowhide, and Suede perforated(uniqueā€¦ all I can say), and non perforated hybrids are unique to them(add qualities of both pads suede and lamb)

Edit: I mean, I do like them just the pricetag is overwhelming all considering. I would only buy from zmf if I am absolutely certain of the pad type I want and itā€™s on my go-to daily driver headphone. Would be the same if I bought alpha pads or audeze vegan pads.

You can tell what a pad will do to your headphone though. For example in this case beyerdynamic they naturally come with velour which is the airest material of pads next to say cloth which you hardily seeā€¦ Therefore adding any form of airy material wonā€™t typically make their headphones brighter than they are(it can make them grainy or strangely sibilant though be warned on that)ā€¦ so even if you add a perforated itā€™s just going to be similar in brightnessā€¦ meanwhile if you add a solid pad to them itā€™s going to flip that signature and add a tremendous amount of bass or in some cases help with the mids. But if you had say a different headphone that was tuned with solid padsā€¦ and you put velour on them itā€™s going to add a lot more treble than originally it was tuned with.

Tygr filters on the amiron home is a combo that I really like so far. Picked up a pair of amirons for 300 and swapped the tygr filters into them since mine had the plain black and grey filters. With stock pads, Smooth bassy with upfront mids. This is what Iā€™ve wanted. Still wish the bass was punchier. Highs have been toned down. But still there. Not noticing sibilance but Iā€™m not too sensitive to it so ymmv. Smooth but in your face is how Iā€™d describe it.

I thought bout going to the amiron honestly but I want to change those damn padsā€¦ I hate alcantara and the amiron has that annoying peak you need to deal with or equalize or it causes random sibilance at loud volumes.

Surprised yours had black filters thoughā€¦ thought the tygr filters were customary of the amiron

Amiron is quite literally a budget t1.2 without the scaling and pad swap in my opinion

Yeah I wish there were better scaling on this set. I was also surprised it included the regular filter. Now Iā€™m really glad I over ordered on those tygr filters. Will probably go into my 990, 2nd pair of 880, and amiron.

Honestly Iā€™m glad you said this is a budget t1.2. I want the t1.2 eventually unless that dt1880 shows upā€¦

Amiron Wireless, but not the Amiron Home. I was confused by it too.

I am now convinced people should be doing this to their Tygrs. Same way I keep hearing you are missing out if you arenā€™t putting your 6XXs or 880s through a tube. I had a whole day off listening and Iā€™m impressed how much control you get with a tube buffer. If it ever gets too boosted in bass or treble(particularly in modern songs) making adjustments on the fly is easy. Vocals shine on this.

Nice, Iā€™ve been considering a darkvoice. Might just go for this solution to play with.

You certainly wonā€™t be disappointed, especially for just 50 bucks if you get the GE JAN-5654 tubes.

Tygr is only 32 ohms so no real reason to use something like a dark voiceā€¦ but I can definitely agree with you that little buffer preamp works beautifully

Oh wow. Enjoying the amiron home a lot actually. Will need to pick up a pair of t1.2 and hear the difference eventually.

so, just now noticed this on the USA beyer shop over hereā€¦ buuut

so thatā€™s a thing now. They actually added tygrs pads as a separate item with itā€™s filters. 100% recommendedā€¦ I have these on my 880s and the filters are definitely in my 1990s sounds great for those who want less on the bright peaks and more on the lows.

Personally though, for pad fitments? I prefer the design and fit of the tygr and the headphones like 880 and 990ā€¦ the sloped pad design of the 880 and 990 originals make them real comfortableā€¦ tygrs are more circular but still nice

Just wanna chime back in here - Iā€™ve had these for about 2 months now? Theyā€™ve been promoted to my daily driver for ā€œgeneralā€ use and also for gaming. Theyā€™re light, comfortable, the imaging is spectacular, they have a wide soundstage, and theyā€™re easy to drive. I use them to play games, listen to music, watch videos, and attend meetings (Iā€™m WFH now).

Iā€™m actually somewhat frustrated now because my DT177X were originally the ones Iā€™d use to do all that, but theyā€™re considerably heavier and the TYGR are so light and comfy and do basically everything better, including music, they just arenā€™t closed-back.

So thatā€™s a long way of saying that these are awesome and punch way above their weight at $200. After I got @tglodjo 's removable cable mod, I got a Hart Audio Cable to keep my system going. They also change sound quite substantially with other pads so thatā€™s an option as well. I used the DT177Xā€™s sheepskin pads at one point and the bass was absolutely ridiculous, but generally I prefer the velour.

I havenā€™t personally tried the Senn 560S yet but these are pretty damn stellar at this price point.

Yeah, I love mine. In my mind I canā€™t help but wonder if these sounds this good, what does an upgrade sounds like? But from what I gather is you just get different sounding headphones. At some point I will get a pair of 880 600 ohm and T1.2 to try out. I think Iā€™ve started to notice that frequency dip that causes some muddiness in resolution at the higher range listening to some songs that falenkor and some other users mentioned. The stock T60RP definitely had an edge on the Tygr in terms of clarity and despite the brightness, I still preferred them over the Tygrs for the short time I had them before I sent them to modhouse. If the argons sound as good as they say, I think they will inevitably replace my Tygrs. But judging by the USPS delay and the usual wait time, That wonā€™t happen any time soon.

surprised to see you say T60s were better than tygr I think by that what you are probably noticing is that the dip in the treble doesnā€™t particularly paint a nice clean picture same with the mids. Dark treble is just kind of like that and the T50RP(not talking the T60rp) version of the argon has that bit of dark and warm tonality to it as well. Granted I would not rate t50 or argon better for a competitive gamer like at allā€¦ worse imaging and the bass is explosive as hell so it definitely without a doubt gets in the way of your sound placement lol

bit of a confliction isnā€™t it? lol. Itā€™s alright, recommend you grab the Aeons next they replaced the 177x For me as they share a rather common signature both being towards the harman curve.(note: not the aeon flowā€¦ RT or Open-X massdrop is fine). Aeons are my regular Daily Driver that I have attached to my liquid platinum at all times less I switch to my T1.2

How would you rank the beyerdynamic custom studio for gaming use like for competitive fps games against other headphones?

The Custom studio has the typical beyerdynamic imaging, means the imaging is very good. Treble is bright. So you get all the detail. All in all the custom studio was neutral with a bright tendency. For me it was too cold sounding. I was missing some warmth to it, especially for music. But i think that this isnā€™t a negative issue for gaming, because you get good detail and audio positioning.
I still prefer the tygr and sundara for gaming, because of the bigger soundstage and more bass quantity. For closed headphones i prefer some warmer headphones like the B&O H6 or the Meze 99 Classics.

How are these compared to the pc38x and can someone please elaborate on sound bleeding between the two open backs? Which is worse? The wife would like to know lol

They have been compared a few times already on the siteā€¦ takes a simple search.

Pc38x is the best of the headsets for competitive imo not for casual its bright with a slight amount of bass but in terms of music it pales in comparison to say other sennheisers. Lack of detail, lack of good separation, not the best dynamics, bit grainy on the highs, bass sounds quite lacking imo. Despite all of this it has a very ideal signature for fps with good sound for footsteps and other sound cue cards alongside above average staging and imaging.

Tygr is the opposite its warm with a ever slight bit of bright or a more subtle v shape as the mids are slightly recessed. This has a speaker presentation alongside a very large soundstage a laser sharp imaging full sounding bass and a good relatively balanced signature that does well for musicā€¦ bass hits are present but stay out of the way with great control and are quite impactful, mids despite recession are still quite clean present and detailed, highs have a slight touch of sparkle but the overall signature due to the recessions can give the initial impression of veil when itā€™s just some portions are dark tuned between the upper mids and lower treble it falls under neutral

Neither has bleeding to my ear but the tygrs need an amp of you do not have a strong motherboard otherwise it sounds rather terribleā€¦ it has to be properly driven. Pc38x is a gaming headset and should be able to be powered ampless

Had a week to compare the Tygr to the 6XX and I still love these. The bass impact and wide soundstage are killer on the Tygr. Vocals sound only slightly recessed because there is so much going on around them yet they are still clear enough were keeping the 6XX isnā€™t worth it for me. Maybe itā€™s the brain burn in because obviously there is a slight mid recess in the frequency graph. Such a fun can. Next up is the Harmonicdyne Zeus when I find a good deal on them. DMS callled them an upgrade to the Tygrs in soundstage and bass impact with similar sound signature so that got me real curious.
