šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Its ā‚¬165ā€¦

Hmmm, that would be pretty nice, and down the line, you can grab a nice dac for it as well, that would be more flexible than the k5 pro. One thing of note though is that the topping amps have high output impedance, so you would want to only use it with cans of around 80 ohms and up, the k5 pro you wouldnā€™t have to worry about that since itā€™s got a low output impedance

Topping D10 says the peanut gallery(me lol) who barily knows jack about seperate amps and dacs right now.

Most of the current topping and smsl dacs are pretty dang solid for the price, itā€™s hard to actually go wrong with the options from them for current dac imo. But system synergy is something to consider ofc

If we need a cheap dac though theeizu hd pro on ali can be found for like $25 and is pretty damn decent for the price

Hey, @M0N Iā€™m about to pull the trigger on the TYGR 300 for 140 euros to replace my DT770. I seriously considered the X2HR but it seems the touted huge bass is sloppy and not very accurate and the higher frequencies are messy. Would you say the TYGR is the best option for my use case or are there better options? How fast/accurate is the bass response?

They will be used for immersive single player pc-gaming and casual music listening. Analytical music listening will go through my studio monitors so the headphones are allowed to be ā€˜funā€™ rather than accurate, although not completely off - there is a reason why Iā€™m on hifiguides after all. I love it when the mix allows the bass flavour to shine through, so a decent bass accuracy and extension is preferred combined with a large soundstage (This is the main reason for going open back other than comfort and the wife factor). This also plays into the ā€˜funā€™ factor: A game with amazing sound design, such as Elite Dangerous (Is there a better sound design out there?), utilizes the whole spectrum of frequencies well (Low end especially) and I care more about that than the pinpoint accuracy that competitive gamers want.

I really love the sound and comfort of Beyerdynamics. I loved both my DT150 and DT770 for many years. I have heard the DT990 in a test setup and loved the accuracy but I do not know if the treble would bother me over time for casual use.

As it stands, my desktop setup consists of an ancient Prodigy Cube as a DAC and a FiiO E11K - Kilimanjaro 2. This should work fine for the 32 ohm TYGR, right? Iā€™m looking into upgrading with something from Schiit or JDS Labs down the line.

From Beyerdynamic support: ā€œAs far as difference in sound goes, the sound profile in the TYGR 300 R has been adjusted for gaming, yet due to the same build as DT990, it pretty much doesnā€™t differ too much. The DT990 Edition also has a lesser appliance pressure than the DT990 Pro for instance and therefore should be a good alternative, if you want an open build headphone.ā€

@M0N What are your thoughts on this statement?

@Falenkor @M0N what about ifi zen dac? It data on Amazon page its an amp/dac it also shows a power Brickā€¦ i thought ir was just a dac?

Itā€™s an amp/dac. Does a pretty good job at being one but the tygr doesnā€™t exactly really need one as itā€™s really easy to drive

@RiceGuru its for dt990 600ohm not for tygr 300rā€¦
So, its q dac/amp? It os good? Better then k5pro?

you would want more power than the Zen dac then go for. K5 pro or run an amp like the liquid spark or magni 3+ off your motherboard or a cheap dac like a meizu hd pro if you still desire a dac

Is there any Diference between a MB dac and a dedicated cheap dac?

With the one I suggested yes itā€™s a lot cleaner but honestly there is no need if your motherboard sounds clean enough save your cash for a better dac like a d10

Iā€™ll see if lĆquid Spark get back in stock on amazon.uk and add after a topping d10. If i cant get the Spark iā€™ll try the magni 3+ with the d10. If i cant get the magni3+ iā€™ll aim to topping a50 + topping d10ā€¦

I think the bass is pretty dang controlled without needing an amp

What impedance did you have for the 770, and which amp did you try on the 990?

The tygr should run just fine off the fiio. Also from my experience it does tend to work well and improve on amps so thatā€™s cool

Overall I think the tygr is worthwhile if you want a beyer that isnā€™t too demanding on your amp while still having a coherent signature and technicalities. The tygr has some pretty smooth treble response and almost a bit warmer sound that I donā€™t see fatigue being an issue, but carries over most of the things people like about Beyer. I think if you wanted to go for something a bit more refined and impressive but need a specific amp, the 880 600 ohm is a bit better, but TBH since you said you plan to be doing more analytical listing the tygr might make more sense here imo

Pretty much accurate, identical build as other Beyerā€™s, and it sounds like a pretty good tweaked 990 32 ohm driver, different from most beyer headphones in tuning. Also yes the premium editions have less clamp and a straight cable vs the stronger clamp and coiled cable of the pro

From my experience the zen dac doesnā€™t have the juice to push the 600 ohms unfortunately, but itā€™s a solid dac

Sounds like a plan

The 770 was the 250 ohm version and it ran fine off the fiio but I was planning to upgrade the amp for it and just never got around to it.

The DT1990 I tried recently was run off a Rega Ear. It sounded fantastic and made me seriously consider them. I actually found them very pleasant to listen to, but I only tried them on for half an hour or so. The Beyer treble was present but not unpleasant in the sibilant frequencies like on some of the smaller models. Those are great for professional use, but what I need now is a comfortable ā€˜funā€™ headphone rather than a pair for mixing and then later I might upgrade if I need more accuracy. My monitors are quite decent when I need a detailed, flat response. I am hoping the TYGR will have the more ā€˜modernā€™ properties of the 1990 and be comfortable for casual use.

From what I have seen and heard on the web, corroborated by your description, it seems the TYGR is a modern, laid back Beyerdynamic that will be perfect for my use case.

I made the order - thank you for the details and for making me aware that they exist in the first place

Very curious to see what you think of them :+1:
