Iâm very curious about the Fidelios X2 HR. what do you think of them? some people didnt seem to like them that much. but since the Helios iâm not taking reviewers too seriously anymore lol
Iâm thinking seriously of sending you a Helios free. just so you can compare them to other headphones for me lol
hmm, depends on how much you like bass. It has a bass presence that can be received as muddy, more so on warmer amps I noticed. Itâs VERY bassy but it doesnât bleed into the mids or highs instead itâs just incredibly present in the mix. Overall itâs an extremely smooth very warm headphone with a very wide noticeable soundstage honestly I was surprised at just how wide this is. Comfort is a bit of a deal breaker I wasnât a big fan lol tygrs win there handsdown. Itâs smoother than the tygrs with a touch more on the Clarity though a little less detail. They sound similar honestly, but for fidelios in some cases I did notice the bass could be a bit too much. I will say however, that it responded better to amps and its compatible with a v moda mic making it quite a fantastic alternative. However in comparison Fidelio x2 hr is a very neutral yet very warm headphone while the tygrs are a subtle V with a very nice warmth like you would get from a dt 990 to it.
I wonât say no, but it wouldnât be one I would keep less it was a gift. More than happy to audition something to see what I think on it.
Honestly, Ant if you were gona look into fidelios I would just wait that one out. X3 is supposed to be coming out real soon which will drop the price of the x2 the shp9600 is on its way too.
and you never really should have lol especially in something as subjective as audio. why many diliked it when you would use other reviewers to support your statement instead of your own words. in respect to the fidelios I like them very fun nice bassy open back laid back can . they arent super resolving and the bass can be a bit loose/ or muddy but thats the sound I want out of them and nothing else personally.
Really nice review. You said it pairs well with the magni 3+ with them. Would you recommend them with the 880 600ohm?
If by this you are asking if the Tygrs compliment the dt 880s, then yeah I do think they compliment them well as the dt 880s are definitely not as bassy and are the brighter of the two however, if you meant about the Magni imo not so much. DT 880 600 ohm is a pretty nice headphone and while it can be driven by a magni or other amp in the $100 range it doesnât sound itâs best unless you have quite more to the amp to drive it to itâs full potential. The issue isnât so much with it being loud as much as control and sensitivity. It needs a certain setup to really be driven to make it sound right. Magni will be nice however, if you are on a tight budget and can help with the low and mid range of the dt 880s
Thatâs actually kind of interesting. So, I ran a test on an old usb sound card I had, one of those like $20 ones. Plugged it into my onboard and while it did lose some of the bass and detail this actually perfoms quite well and the soundcard allowed it to actually get much louder, more so with peace apo preamp. Not the most beautiful sound but for gaming not bad at all since you normally arenât sitting there paying attention to every single musical detail anyway. Curious if this is capable of being modded as balanced like the DT series is and if so how will it perform balanced that plus a change in pads perhaps to dial back that treble just a hair more and add more bass to the mix, perhaps a Suede instead of a velour something more along the lines of what the fidelios use? I donât have anything in house to check this atm. If anyone happens to buy these and you have something like this in house or are capable of modding it. Do let me know I am quite curious on that.
Zeos was going to change the pads. I was very curious to hear his thoughts on pad swapping.
These pads look just like my T1 going to assume outside of the softness they are essentially the same.
Loaned out my dt 1990 to a friend doing mixing and 990 pads donât sound good on this, tried my XL brainwavz perfs on it too and while it made it bassier it sounded very congested. It is possible that the dt 1990 pads or dekoni elite velours could make it sound better due to this design possibly the balanced pads. I am thinking a thicker material would be better for these though. Perhaps a choice sheepskin, suede, or alcantara. Something that can clean up that sound and bring out this headphone a bit more. It sounds very spacious and airy and I noticed immediately though upon switching to the perfs it reeled in that soundstage big time so perhaps sheepskin or leathers arenât a good idea for this one? Dunno, I lack the experience. Curious if @ZeosPantera over there would be able to check out the pad swaps on these since he mentioned it in his video
Take into account that Zeos tends to prefere bright headphones so his tastes might differ from yours regarding pad swappingâŠ
I mean, I wouldnât complain about making the tygrs a touch brighter. Would probably sound closer to the T1 which is a fantastic headphone.
Yeah I meant the magni. If I was to expand my budget a bit more, which amp would you recommend with the 880 600ohm
Probably the Asgard 3 due to how good of an all rounder amp it is. Though itâs $100 more and I donât know your budget. There are of course alternatives such as the speaker amp that Zeos mentions. Seems to be a good rule of thumb for that headphone that a strong amp in the $200 range and above is able to power it and make it sound good
Iâm just luck here in Germany they came back in stock and with discount they are $135. Had to grab one.
Thatâs a hell of a discount wow! Definitely worth it 100% for that price. Hope you enjoy them!
Hope as well, here we have 60 days time to return them for free. Should be enough time to properly test them.
You have an amp for them?
Not yet, I had to buy a headphones now, before they run out of stock. And the problem is I want to have an AMP/DAC with 3.5mm mic input not easy to get something in Europe.
Motu M2? Itâs a very nice usb interface and the headphone output measures really well and should be plenty for theese headphones.
edit: for the 3.5mm input a simple 2⏠adapter and youâre set
Is the AMP in the Motu M2 good enough so I donât need an extra AMP like I would need it with the Scarlett Solo?
And for the microphone wouldnât I need a 48V to 5V converter like a Rode VXLR+?
