I donāt have them, AFAIK theyāre very comfortable but not very light so thatās something to consider. If thatās your use case Iād ask somebody who owns them.
Hey,
i do own the nighthawk carbon, the fidelio x2, the sundara and the tygr. I find them all comfy and donāt have any comfort issues. For comfort i would rank them: NHC>X2>Sundara>Tygr
Which comfy issues do have with the 770ās? The 770 and the tygr have almost the same build, so maybe you would have the same issue with the tygr. I do find the tygr comfy, but they have the strongest clamping force of the four.
For overall sound quality i would rank them: NHC>Sundara>Tygr>X2
For gaming:
Tygr>Sundara>NHC>X2
The tygr has a little bit more and deeper bass and better imaging/3d-staging than the sundara.
It is a very good gaming can. The sundara has the wider soundstage and more micro detail. It is better, if you play competitive.
My tygrs are for sale now, because i like the microdetail on the sundara more. If you are interested in the tygr, contact me. I live in germany and could ship the tygr to
Depending on your head shape (because the cups donāt tilt), AudioTechnica ATH-AD500x.
I ran mine directly off my computer for a few years.
If you want more eyes on your problem, make a seperate thread.
Well, this thread has been quite helpful. I preordered the 6XXs while I wait for my asgard 3 and modius in december but Iāve been concerned that they wonāt provide enough bass for my liking. I listen to quite a bit of electronic music with driving beats and metal with heavy drums so good bass is important to me but I listen to a large variety of music. I considered cancelling the 6XX since it has a flatter sound signature and getting the tygrs instead but the 990ās 600 ohm sound more appealing now. Are they that much bright that I should be wary? Sounds like Iāll have to run EQ on them to smoothen out the sound.
Iām very curious to know if swapping out the foam pads to the tygr type will solve the fatigue from the brightness.
TYGR are headphones that need 0 work out of the box and have a shorter cable that is a nice length for PC use.
If treble peaks bother you, 990 600ohm you may have to work to find a sweet spot with EQ or the foam discs and the much longer cable is annoying unless you mod them.
If you want to tinker, 990s may be better for you.
I kept my TYGRs when I got a pair of 1990s simply because they are so light and comfortable for longer listening/gaming sessions. The clamp is definitely lighter than a pair of 770 pros if that was the aspect that was bothering you.
quite easy to fix but granted yeah, they do clamp well enough. Stretching them over their box for about 2-3 days(make sure the box is around the size of your head) will break in the pads a bit and stretch out the headphone removing more clamp forceā¦ can also replace the pads. Your other suggestions are solid for gaming except the x2hr which is beyond bassy and by no means good for competitive gaming, just good for casual.
I think that would depend on preference between the first threeā¦ nhc is dark, sundara is bright, tygr is warm and slightly V so different strokes of preference. all 3 are good at competitive but nhc isnāt the ideal signature which puts it a bit behind the other two.
its best to plug 6xx into something like tubes or one of the ifi to get that extra bass bump due to the neutral nature of sennheisers in general. May have been a good idea to switch to tygr in that regard due to your preference.
in a quick short response? yes, they are extremely sharp and can really cause a lot of irritation, discomfort, and faitgue. You can of course dial this in through tygrs foam piece(if you can get your hands on one itās mentioned in this thread little ways up though), respective pad swaps, making sure your amp/dac rolls on the treble(such as liquid spark or asgard 3), and lastly 600 ohms for the more refined smoothed out treble response.
takes quite a bit to settle it down in EQ and I would suggest equalization as a last resort in that regard.
yes, it will if you can get your hands on them. I mention above but this does give the 990 a bit more flexibility in that regardā¦ itās just the foam piece of primarily on the germany store and not on the USA, so youād have to talk with beyer about that one.
depends on the motherboard, have experienced some that cannot drive these properly so in some cases a small weak amp/dac will be necessary, still works fine.
agreed but it could take some work to get it where you need it so additional costs.
could always swap the pads on any of the beyers and they are more comfortable that way, granted 770 has some hefty clamp due to itās closed natureā¦ tygr is for gaming so it has much less on the clamp and I guess was designed to be more comfortable due to itās selling point as the pads are much softer as well. Whole heartedly recommend tygr for any gamer use, unless very particular needs or preferences are in order.
So Iāve done a bit of testing and whatnot, turns out the tygrs are 32 ohm DT 990 drivers in the DT 880 housing with EDT 990 black velour pads and amiron wireless foam discs. DT 990 edition 32 ohm + amiron discs + black pads get you 95% of the way there and is a great option if youāre unable to get your hands on the tygrs.
I wish we had more examples of people doing this mod with a 990 600 ohm because Iām super tempted to try it and see how it compares to the tygr in dynamic range.
I took the sheepskin Dekoni pads that came with my 177X GO and put them on my TYGR - wow! These already had great bass but now itās absolutely thumpinā.
I reached out to Beyerdynamics regarding the Amiron foam discs as Iām still interested in the 990ās. Hereās what they said in case anybody else is interested in this mod:
We do not have the item(s) in stock that you are looking for, but our authorized service center does, and they can process a parts order for you. You can reach them by email at [email protected] or through their website at Contact ā Consolidated Sound Services
Good luck with them. I needed a replacement driver a while back and it took over two weeks for them to send an invoice so I could order.
yeah no kidding, working with them is like pulling teeth.
Edit: I went ahead and reached out to them for some extra foam inserts and am currently digging around for a DT 990 edition(sold my old one) to see how the 600 ohm performs with this modification.
The Tygr 300 Rs are on sale $30 off on beyerdynamics website if anyone is interested.
Oh boy this makes this the 3rd pair of headphones this monthā¦ couldnāt resist that sale. Free shipping and tax free. Hoping to swap the foams and pads onto my dt990 and dt880 600ohms to see how that goes.
Iāll be looking forward to your thoughts on the swap after you try them on. I couldnāt resist either.
Very excited to see how this goes for the dt990.
do let me know what you think, I am in the process of a full modification to a DT 990 but itāll take me some timeā¦ (detachable cable and what not)
Will do. Sounds like an awesome mod. Been wanting to do that with my og dt880s but I still need to order a driver for them.
yeah if this modification turns out well to the 990s I will get rid of my tygrs and this 990 and go get one of the special custom variants like the Manufaktur 990 or Chrome version and mod those for my collection. At the same time, keeping a close eye out for the DT 1880 that out of nowhere popped up on dekonis site for pads
