Thank you my man @Falenkor
Can’t speak for the quality of the stack yet as I’m still waiting for it to arrive. That said, if you try to wade through hype statements, you’d see that the Topping E30 is recommended a ton (especially here) as one of the best DACs in its price range. The L30 just released this past week and people are just now receiving them, so you’ll start to hear more about it. Early reviews are very good, comparing it to it’s $500 older brother A90 (minus the balanced input). https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/topping-l30-headphone-amplifier-review.15226/
I’m in the US so I am lucky to have easy access to audio gear. I’m fairly new to the scene, but I’ve been able to purchase gear on the used market to test and use, then resell it used for little to no loss. (I’m not flipping anything for profit.) That’s one of my favorite things about the hobby in my area as I have access and ease for trying out different gear to really hone in on what’s best for my setup and preferences. I have some friends in Kuwait, so I’m familiar with the hassle you go through to get some of this stuff. That’s one reason I really like Falkenor’s advice and guides here. It’s better than sponsored vids, more informative than reviews (especially regarding different uses), and you’re given plenty of information to make an informed decision since your purchases are more of an investment in time and money.
Exceptional Dac for it’s price honestly… I upgraded to that from a D10 haven’t really heard any other dac that is as good yet in that price range. Granted most dacs in the Sub $200 are extremely marginal differences.
I mean, I live near like 3 audio stores over here in the US so I have access to quite the amount of stuff… well that plus apos audio and headphones.com over there have really fantastic return policies.
I appreciate the kind words. I try to educate myself as well as inform others from my own knowledge and experience despite how relatively small it is in such an extremely large niche hobby. Gaming is kind of my area so I respond most here since music development, mixing, mastering, and other more extreme details and sounds especially in terms of description in sound isn’t a strong point as of yet for me. I have a large back ground of the headsets and I don’t know how many others I have yanked out of that terrible market now… due to my ability to pretty much try whatever the hell I want and several audiophile buddies who have high pay jobs ($100k+) it makes sitting down with equipment for me rather simplistic. Though granted, of late I have been busy. I still need to fix that guide… the more I reread that thing the more I see the issues and errors… its a bit of a train wreck and I wrote it up in a bit of a hurry honestly. regardless… as I say on anytime when it comes to this stuff… take whatever you hear as subjective opinion… find a reviewer who also has more your taste in sound and listen in… you may just find exactly what your looking for.
In my case M0N and Riceguru helped me find my ideal setup despite being a very crazy idea to pick up the dt 990 as my first bright headphone of all things. I think if your looking for some extreme advice… speaking to M0N who has some seriously insane experience may help as well
Month and a half actually. Beyerdynamic for some stupid reason keeps restocking the Bundle with the Fox Microphone but keeps the actual headphone by itself stating it’s out of stock which is extremely obnoxious.
I’ve been waiting weeks to see it come in stock to order it as a birthday gift for myself. It’s honestly disappointing. But then again covid isn’t helping out the situation either. I filled out a contact form from their support page in hopes of figuring out when it restocks or something.
Yeah, not quite sure what beyers up to on that one. I have seen them restock the bundle with the fox mic a few times but not the singular headphone. Even after you get one ordered it takes an eternity just to get it.
I read somewhere else that someone called Beyer customer service and was able to put in an order over the phone. It was still out of stock and delayed, but s/he was able to get their name on the books.
Just got a reply back from the contact form. They said the TYGR will be back in stock within the next 3-4 weeks.
They told me that same thing… 3 - 4 weeks ago lmao.
I really want these headphones. But i also don’t want to wait an eternity for them to go in stock.
You can always buy the TEAM bundle and try to sell the FOX mic secondhand to recoup the cost. Can be a hassle, but better than waiting a month or two. And Beyerdynamic sometimes has the bundle refurbed on their eBay store for better price and free shipping (and no tax, at least in my state).
@FalenkorI just placed the order for TYGR 300’s !
So i mentioned i was using a shipment forwarder right? i bought it from beyerdynamic uk. Because my shipment forwarder (DHL Easyshop) happened to have an address in UK too !!
So amp/dac wise, i have a few questions. reply back at your convenience, yeah?
- My Fiio BTR5 + JDS labs atom (using 3.5in) [i dont know if this will take a hit on sound quality)
- Ifi Zen DAC
- JDS Stack/ Topping DX3 Pro (this is 200$ territory, i want what you think is best option if i’m spending 200$)
Just a heads up, i emailed BD North America from their website this morning and got a response 10 minutes ago that they had received limited stock of the TYGR 300R headphones. They had me submit the order by email, so I’m guessing the website may not update to show them in stock.
Throwing an immediate email to snag another pair. lol
Generally anything clean I think will be good for an amp/dac I think ifi zen dac may actually be a bad pick in this case… speaking literally from this headset sitting in front of me and that amp sitting on my desk it makes it a bit too bassy and slightly muddy and too dark. I think the atom would be a great combo for it as the atom has that ever so slight edge to it and its very clean sounding which should pair very well to it. Honestly something like a thx amp or sp200 or something would pair nicely too as it potentially will make the treble more neutral in this case. Just try to avoid the warmer rolled off treble sounding setups in this case and you should be just fine… the tygr isn’t amp picky by any means it appears outside of equalization and warmer amps.
Edit: plugged it into my asgard 3. yeah, definitely go with a cleaner amp colored amps like asgard work wonders as well sounds even more spacious. Ifi zen dac no go. Liquid spark definite no go. Needs a magni, atom, a30, thx, something along those lines
wha about topping L30?
@Falenkor your inputs are invaluable to me! <3
going for THX/SP200 is 250$ for Amp itself and will have to purchase a DAC on top. So i’m looking at 400$ including shipping and stuff.
Do you have the Asgard 3 with the DAC module? It does not have great measurements on AudioScienceReview, so my final question is Asgard 3 OR JDS Stack?
I do not care for analytical sound, but i would like to hear close to original clean sound. (coloration is okay). if its more enjoyable on Asgard than the JDS stack (even though JDS will be cleaner) i’ll prefer the Asgard.
Step up from the A30 and has good reviews so far… I would ask M0N about that as he’s currently sitting with it but in the tygrs case? That’s some extreme amount of power backing a very low power unit… I would advise caution about the sound setting so you don’t blow it up. Regardless should work just fine.
Normally I wouldn’t recommend thx/sp200 I would recommend going with schiit… Anytime I have sat with them I thought sound quality and performance was much better coming out of something such as topping or Schiit. I would ask around for which amps tend to make headphones a bit brighter if thats your goal however only recomend such a setup if you prefer more warm or dark sounding headphones in that regard. Not that the thx/sp200 are bad just that I feel there are better potential options and may save you money as well.
I have not sat with asgard 3’s dac but theres plenty of people here who have. I would ask around though granted I have heard some good things… I would typically recommend a seperate dac but then again… I haven’t ever tried the amp/dac asgard variation. If I had to pick between asgard, thx, sp, or jds? Asgard first because I feel it has more synergy with a ton more setups… and in this case definitely jds following that if one cannot get the schiit products.
I prefer the color of asgard… but jds is extremely neutral in sound with a slight sharp point to it… so it may pair better in your preference than an asgard at that point… Though if your preferred sound is as close to the original recording as possible tygr may not be the best choice… It’s a warm fun headphone by no means is it very “natural”.
Cool, I’ll go with the JDS stack as it seems like a safe option under my budget.
I actually wanted to chime in on a seperate bit of opinion on this one. I had to clarify with M0N a bit on this amp as I wasn’t particularly sure. So, yeah definitely the JDS though in my opinion I appreciated the Aune x7s more as it visibly raised the treble but it was a very smooth sound. I am actually considering purchase of the Aune soon as I own a few warmer headphones that or as M0N recommended to me I may try the gilmore lite mk2 but thats much more expensive lol
thanks @Falenkor
I will consider Aune as option 1 too.
I ran into another little hiccup with Beyerdynamic, their support mentioned they only ship to private addresses and does not ship to DHL offices. I’m trying to convince them to ship my order anyways, but have to wait and see how it goes.
