Has anyone tried the iFi iPower Elite (granted itās 2.5a @ 24v instead of 3a) or the iFi DC iPurifier2 with the Supercharger and did it make any difference with the noise floor?
The Soloist 3xp is the first sub $2k headphone amp Iāve tried that doesnāt clip or shut off at my listening volumes on the HE6SEv2 when going through my test playlist. On top of that it sounds great (using SparkOS opamps and a Supercharger).
However, the noise floor with pretty much all of my other headphones is annoying. No noise on any gain with the HE6Sev2 plugged in obviously. I use balanced everywhere and Iāve tried it in poweramp mode. Noise floor doesnāt change, noise floor also didnāt change for me when adding the Supercharger (no better, no worse). Noise floor also doesnāt change with volume, which leads me to believe itās an amp/design thing, so attempting to clean up the power anymore wonāt make a difference. I donāt use IEMs so low gain is actually dead silent with all of my headphones, but it doesnāt get loud enough with a majority of my headphones in low gain. Plus, I think med gain sounds better.
Well, since my post 17 days ago Iāve tried a couple more amps, including the GSX-Mini. The Burson Soloist 3xp is still the only amp under $2k, that Iāve tried, that doesnāt clip or shut down when going through my test playlist on harder to drive headphones at my listening levels. I decided to try the iFi products and purchased around $1k worth of opamps (I was able to return and/or sell the ones I didnāt keep, so no real loss) to try to lower the noise floor. This was successful, Poweramp mode is now completely silent in all gains with my more sensitive headphones (I donāt use IEMs).
iFi iPower Elite - no difference in noise floor
iFi DC iPurifier2 - no difference in noise floor
The Supercharger makes no difference for me in regards to the noise floor. However, it does seem to improve sound, in my case one of the most noticeable changes was that it got rid of sibilance I was hearing.
The secret weapon for me in battling the noise floor was 4x OPA2227P. Poweramp mode is dead silent in all gain modes for me now. Using it in regular mode, low and med gain are dead silent now and then the jump to high gain there is a noticeable noise floor. I will say that even though the volume section is supposed to be bypassed in Poweramp mode, the opamps there still affect sound and the noise floor.
Out of all the opamps, I did keep the OPA2227P, LM6172IN and SS3602.
Hi man, Could you please tell me more about the ipurifier DC?
The stock Power supply sounds different than the supercharger, and I would like to upgrade the sound of the stock PSU.
I notice the supercharger makes the sound a little more distant(but cleaner), does this also happens when you add the Ipurifier DC to the stock PSU?
When I use a DDC, an Ipurifier 3 usb, or supercharger sound gets cleaner but a little less intimate, more thin in some way, I wonder if it also happens with the Purifier DC.
If supercharger itās a letās say 5-15% upgrade depending of what you put in mind, how much upgrade is the Ipurifier DC when used for the stock PSU?
Is an An upgraded stock PSU with ipurifier DC is close to the Supercharger?
Hey guys, late to the game here. I recently purchased a HEKv2. Iām running it through the Bifrost 2 > Jot 2. Found a good deal on the Soloist with the super charger. Is there any reason I shouldnāt make this purchase? Iāve read that the Bifrost 2 and the Soloist might be a little to hot in the Treble on the HEKv2. Just to add, I finally understand fatigue on a headphone after a few hours on this setup with the HEKv2.
I have a 3xp supercharged paired with a spring 2 and love it. I donāt get hot treble at all from this setup with my HE1K stealth. Iāve also used a gustard R26 and questyle cma12 and same thing nothing really hurting me with those.
Which version of the Bifrost 2 are you using? I have the Bifrost 2/64 + Soloist 3XP /w supercharger driving an Arya Stealth, and no treble issues. Granted it is a different headphone.
Just some context, I am very sensitive to high frequencies, and I havenāt had any fatigue.
Iām not sure if this is the right place for this, but Iām running my Soloist in power amp mode using a āLittle bearā passive preamp between it and my Bifrost 2, Was wondering about adding a little tube sound to it. Was wondering if the Schiit Lyr 3+, Saga+ or the Valhalla work for this, and which would you suggest? Thanks
I personally run my 3xp the same way but use my Euforia as the pre. If you can pick a an echo thatās is the way I would tube pre. You have a lot of options to tube roll and itās such a damn good amp by itself.
Thank you for the suggestion. I looked into the Echo, and itās just to big for the space I have on my desktop. Also, I like the ability of the Saga+ and Lyr+ to bypass the tub mode. Thanks again.
A red volume control knob would look sweet on the Soloist. Not sure if Burson makes one, but there has to be something out there that you can use!
Iām also curious how you will get on with the TA-26. I have heard good things. I thoroughly enjoyed the TA-20 when it was in the system here. The TA-20 is a hybrid, so different, of course, but XDuoo makes pretty good stuff. I was going to sell it, but I couldnāt let it go!
Iām holding off on asking for the red knob from Burson. The TA-26 just finally showed up yesterday after they declared the original shipment lost after a month of waiting (not sure Iāll order from Apos again) and after some back and forth, Iām not hearing much difference using the 26 as a pre. I know the tubes may need some burn in. So, Iām reframing from judgment for the time being.
Just put in a 6SN7EH electro harmonix gold pin suggest from the āPassion for Soundā review on You tube. Iāll guess weāll see. Since Iām using the 26 as a pre, I I assume I only need to change the pre tube?
Iāve just upgraded my V6 vivids to V7s in the input stage (I always disable the volume control on my unit). And I have to tell you, that this was a much bigger upgrade, than I expected. Just pretty much the whole range now sounds much more natural, holographic, nuanced and emotional. And this is the first time, that I was able to get goosebumps from any SS amp, and I was a tube guy. Not anymore, my 3XP has finally surpassed both of my tube amps by a long shot
The most weird thing is, that most reviewers said, that the upgrade was barely noticeable for them, the only reviewer, that I know of, who praised these op amps enough was Passion for sound
