Canuck Audioholics Anonymous CAA Reviews & Fun Banter

Explorer sounds quite excellent, especially considering the $, but yeah the pressure is a problem for me. It’s simply not vented enough on the inside, for me. I feel/hear every jaw or neck movement and walking is even worse.

I might gift them to my sister…I doubt she’ll be so picky but enjoy them nonetheless.

Yeah the TRI Draco or Shanling Tino

The HIBY R6iii 2025 has a very intimate stage that’s part of the problem and the bass is soft that’s another issue with that player.

Same here for me

Wednesday I’ll have the DX180. US holiday today which is kinda weird with so many Federal employees being fired

It’s a shame when the fit doesn’t quite work, especially for something that sounds good otherwise. Gifting them sounds like a great idea, though

Agreed I tried the Fir Audio RN6 yesterday sounds amazing but those metat shells like 64 Audio are just not comfortable for me.

That’s really a shame as I can’t seem to find any of these issues on the older version of R6III

I had a few people over last night got to share some gear and listen to thiers.

Tried the Dualality , the RN6 the Trifecta and a few more.

The RN6 won out for me for standout sound but the Dualality was amazing as well.

The Trifecta was OK on tubes.

And got to see and listen to the Shanling M8T , I wanted to see if it was going to be a warmer M9Plus but alas I don’t think so more resolving as the current Shanling house sound has shifted to, the M8T didn’t give me the tubeyness I was hoping for and to me just sounded like a bigger N3Ultra

I don’t know if you’ve ever ventured down the path of discrete components powering speakers or not but I know you’re old enough to know just how fortunate we all are to have such incredible sound system options for so very little money.

Even the TOTL IEMs and dac/amp/tube stack is so vastly less $ vs. speaker systems and in my opinion and experience removing the room from the equation makes the task much, much easier and frankly better sounding.

If the quality of sound was possible 10-15 years ago I would have avoided chasing good sound and stuck with a modest speaker system for background music and focused on in-ears et al.

Good times…I keep telling myself…good times.

Oh, the iBasso arrives a day early

Hiby should be ashamed of the R6 III 2025. The R4 is ‘better’ executed and 1/2 the $. The DX180 out of the box cold kills the R6.

Bless chifi for that.

I remember LOVING the old Klipsch S4 (which I think was around 80 usd in 2009).

But god it just sucks hard compared to what we can get now for even 20 usd.

100% thanks to the Chinese people for doing it better, faster and cheaper. I’m saddened that humans still practice isolationism, racism and hate. Someday, if we’re collectively exceedingly lucky we may figure out how to celebrate the differences as positives.

I still have a pair of Senn HD580 from early 2000s I think. They sound terrible. Hifiman Ananda Stealth with EQ (EQ not required but I like it) driven by Apos Gremlin balanced 12AU7 hybrid and Hifiman dac is silly good for the $.

After a few hours now, the DX180 remains more warm than I expected based on TDM review and others. Perhaps the top-end will open up as the caps form.

Super pleasing, clear detailed, solid balanced presentation with the Himalaya. New Model Army sounds great.

That’s the dream, isn’t it? A world where we celebrate differences instead of fearing them. Progress is happening, but sometimes it feels like it’s moving at dial-up speeds while everything else is on fiber optic.

Yes but lately I’ve been feeling like it’s a pipe dream ;(

Update: not sure if it’s because we raised the collective , but HiFiGo decided to send a new unit. Seems like a different customer service than I was previously dealing with, very concise, polite and responsive… they asked if okay I get the blue instead if green…Let’s get it on!

I suspect they changed the firmware, v1.03, to reduce the charge rate as the max I saw with a 65W charger was ~10W. Fast charging is great and all but it absolutely stresses these little li-polymer cells and makes the protection circuit that much more critical to avoid a fire. Safe option is to simply slow the charge rate.

The latest units also use a faster memory controller…bonus. She’s snappy unit.

The Simgot tuning kit seems to have dried up on Aliexpress.us. Anyone know of a source?

I did order the Moondrop Kato nozzles to try.

TIA

Absolutely happy with DX180 and Himalaya combo. Adding Pula PA02 just because…and I’m on my third try to snag a set of S12 2024. First two times I received the S08 which was OK but it has no ‘special sauce’ and not what I ordered.

The Kato nozzles are perfect only thing as the hold onto the eartip with a death grip.
