Closed back hp for Grado lover?

Hi! I own (and love) a pair of Grado sr80e. I know there are a lot of people who hate the Grado sound, but it’s all about different tastes, isn’t it?

I would like to buy a new pair of closed back headphones. And I would like something sonically similar to the Grados. Yes, I know the importance of the open back topology in Grado sound signature, I just want something that gets me as close as possible, being closed back.

Thank you in advanced!!

Tbh I don’t think such a thing exists, to both retain the sparkling treble and the thick mid. The closest thing would be using a pair of KSC75 drivers and put them into Grado chassis to become closed back

Probably an IEM would be the closest tbh.

IEMs, no way. Mi ears don’t stand them. And I don’t want to tinker. I’ll keep searching.

That is a hard call to make. All I can do is state my experience. The Grado GH2’s are my favourite headphones and have been since I bought them three years ago. Next headphone to blow me away was the Focal Elex’s.

I have spent years trying to find a closed back that could compliment these two. I finally found it: The CFA Cascades.
These three are my favourites and nothing else comes close.

I am in the process of shedding other 'phones as most have disappointed me.

Just my experience. Of course we all hear differently.

If a closed back Grado ever exists I think all the Grados will have a pair already

The only closed back that specifically comes to mind is the Sivga 002. That headphone has some kind of 2-3k peak that reminds me of the SR80e.

Buff, the CFA are out of reach for me, nowadays…

Do they still make it? I’m looking through Sigva webpage but I can’t find this model.

How about used? I just traded for a pair of used Beyer T5 Gen 3’s.

Bushmills x Grado (good luck finding one)

There’s still a listing for it on Amazon, and I think the Blon B7S on aliexpress is the same headphone.

maybe look at the Audio Technica ATH-A2000X or other AT closed backs like ATH-A900X

That one is semi-closed

A2000x might be too lean and cold sounding for Grado, A900x might be a bit too neutral/slightly warm ish and lacks the sparkly treble

Your best choice imo is to look for something that compliments the Grado sound. Grados sound entirely unique and there is little chance that a closed back headphone will ever be tuned similarly unless Grado does another Bushmills style thing. Something like an E-MU Teak or Beyer x drop dt177x might be good places to look.

The next best place to look would probably be Audio Technica. They tend to have a similar mid-range/treble focused tuning kind of like Grados.

I can try, but here where I live there is not a big used headphones market. I’ll take a look. Thank you.

I’ve been looking at AT range, hope I can try something before purchase.

I’ve been searching in Aliexpress and there are Blon and Sivga models that are identical. I’ve never hward about these brands before. Are they good? I’ve seen the Sivga 002 there… It looks nice…

Good luck! :+1:
