Comparing the JDS Labs Atom and SMSL SP200 THX AAA 888

Hole-y crap. 7 watts into 32 ohms. That is a powerhouse.

Mon, you use the RNHP in your studio? And it’s powerful enough to drive those Audeze cans? Or a higher ohm dynamic like a HD650?

I’m just asking for a friend, not me. I’ve already spend enough on audio gear lately. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It really depends on what I am doing for what rotation of headphones I will use. The ADX5000, Clear, D8000 Pro, and the Warwick Aperio get used on almost every project now, along with other cans if I feel necessary. I check the final on as much as I can and what would seem appropriate, including consumer speakers, common headphones and earbuds, soundbars, car stereos, etc. The rnhp drives most of them well

Also use speakers as well of course

My RNHP has unfortunately been delayed for roughly 3 weeks. Something something oversold between their many shops (amazon, eBay, etc). So I gotta wait now … Or try something else in the meantime

Is there any other amp in the 500$~ish price range you’d recommend over the THX ones besides the RNHP? Am open for pretty much anything that could be considered a step-up from the THX amps.

Dumb follow up. Are you able to drive your ADX5000 with the RNHP? 420ohm is a serious headphone. My 50ohm Focal is already at noon.

Thanks bud!!!

Yeah it does get the job done in fact lol

Wow. I’m really enamored with the RHNP, but I also really like the look (and your description) of the ADX5K, and I don’t want to buy another amp if I go there.

If you are doing listening pleasure, they tube pretty well imo

What do you guys think of the Burson amps?

I think they are overpriced and they subscribe in the snake oil that is Op-Amps. Not trustworthy in my book.

OP amp swapping can be pretty fun, can change the sound a bit. Their amps are pretty good to imo, but I will agree they are getting pricey

The prices of their OP-amps is what surprises me. In my experience, the sound change is minuscule. Not worth the price and hassle when tube rolling is just as fun but easier.

It really depends on the amp to me for if it makes a larger difference or not

idk. thr Burson Fun amp i hear a lot of good things about. its 300$ William Murdock really liked it, at the 10 minute mark:

And the Play amp also 300$ on the Master Switch website for best amps

@M0N I will drive to a relatively near music store to go test listen to the RNHP (they have it on display!) while I’m waiting for my unit to be shipped.

Can you perhaps recommend a DAC that particularly pairs well with it, let’s say under 350$? Do DACs also differ in sound so much albeit measuring the same like amps do?

Thanks in advance!

Well, what type of sound do you want?

Perhaps a good balance between detail and clarity while not being overly analytical while still not being all too colored. It should sound fun. I’m not trying to master the next hit single, I’m trying to sit in front of my computer and enjoy life, getting hyped from music that’s always made me smile.

I’ve heard the SU-8 had some problems lately again and would make things overly bright if they’re already bright.

Hmmm, what about the drop airist r2r? Would be an interesting thing to try

Definitely sounds like a nice option, but it’d take roughly 6+ weeks to arrive from the US. Is there anything else more globally accessible? What does the D50s sound like? Is it also as harsh as the SU-8?

Mon do you think the RNHP is a good amp for the Focal Clears?

Absolutely I use the clear with the rnhp and it’s really good
