Cool vid from Abyss

Really nice to get a visual representation of correct stage/imaging. Will be using this with both my cans and 2ch rig.

I feel like the balance is too much to the left. And I get irritated by it. To me it seems like a good idea bad execution.

Neumann KU100 is not an easy mic to use.

where is the flac/lossless version…? Seems odd to have that available

So i was not the only one? lol.

Yes. It could have been much better, several mistakes / error’s in recording as well.
There was also a test note, should have been right in front, was somehow to the left like there was two of the same audio “tracks” in a row. FL and position changed, then played the same FL. Some pop’s and cracks.

Somehow got the feeling it was rushed too much and end result suffered.

Im Gaging… well there it is.

As a base guideline, i would not use anything on Youtube for actual testing.
I do trust Sound and Audio Engineers and Professional, when they have made or produced a actual sound test track or disk for testing purposes.

Was too lazy last night but i’ll test this video on actual reference speakers and hear how far of it actually is. Since even with laptops speakers it was off and HD6xx is was even more clear.
Between the 11-22min it sounds fine.

I suppose I could have listened to the damn thing before I posted it lol. I saw it, it looked good and, I posted with the intention of actually listening to it at some other point in time :man_facepalming:t2:

It never occurred to me to test my cans with a proper testing tracks, do you have a recommendation on a proper testing tracks?

Surely a wise and good policy in most cases. But in this case what concerns me about the above criticisms is, this is an Abyss production on the “official” Abyss Headphones channel, at least two of the Abyss people are audio engineers and this may well have been produced for their own in-shop use, as well as for their customers. If Focal or Sennheiser release a test vid on YT, I wouldn’t expect it to be anything less than up to their internal engineering standards. So if there are technical problems with this one…

Is this relevant? Focal Tools CD

Since the background information is more in the unknown regions.
I would make it more a youtuber production and execution with the asked permission of Abyss by the side. They would have used “0 money” for it but get the marketing glory and possible good along the side.

In most cases that is the way the egg grumbles .
Until more official information would be available.

Yes, like @MaynardGK linked. You find similar CD’s and tracks + measuring software that are available by searching. They mostly are boring sweeps, pulses, phase tests and test Hz etc.
Some might even have tracks and 360 tests and some fun.
Something 98% find boriiing, and want to use what they like.
I have and use few from Focal, Marantz and EMMA and some less known and single tracks.

Isn’t it relevant that DMS is a full time employee of Abyss and the vid is posted on the “official” Abyss channel, not his own? The fact that we know DMS from his more subjectively-focused personal channel seems like it may be biasing our take on his professional work, whether on YT or whatever he produced previously as a music recording engineer.

My take is that at least one aspect of posting this on YT would be for tech support. Someone with an Abyss headphone contacts them and says that the centre image is left or right or the tonal balance is wrong or some such. They then ask the customer to listen to the YT vid so they have a common reference point for further analysis.

Idea is good like mentioned but execution as trash.
Should on their official website if “support testing” would be offered to customers or closed login page.

For me, if there are so bad flaws and typos…would not trust the sound. Platform also something else.
Anything Abyss “glass” quality should be the same on everything, like the hyped headphones.

So is this test supposed to determine how resolving a certain headphone can be? Im confused lol

I think it’s more to illustrate to listeners what they should be listening for when we talk about staring and in room and front etc.

So more of a video to define words we can use in explaing audio terms that happen from a headphone?

Quick test with the smaller / secondary gear.
Distance between tweeters / speaker is ~4.3ft/1.3m. If you would draw 10 equal “check lines” between them, 10 being most left, 0 being most right = 5 being on the middle.
The center center imaging goes the near the 8 mark?
With a 55" screen, the center point hits near the letter D on distance text, if center would be Mic stand.

Would be very interesting to know what is the point of this… it gives the idea how the locations and sound changes but…what’s the point of moving if it ain’t centered?
After the 11min mark with songs, everything is dandy. Singers are nicely centered.

Something bad happened in the recording or editing or the actual mic head while making it ?

Maybe im just harsh and a dick but if this is “The Ultimate Test”… c’mon. lol
Cut everything before the 11min and after the 22min point. Leave the middle part.

Yeah made me kinda lean to the left lol…but the vid does show the “V” bias to the left?
