Standard, although Iā€™m sure both sizes probably work

got my calā€™s in yesterday. sound great. very smooth and easy to listen to. earpads little small for my large ears. fit perfectly on the wifeā€™s ears tho. she doesnā€™t get hyped about audio ever. everytime i buy something shes like how much did that cost lol =) Told her i got new pair of headphones, and her response: how much did that cost!. i said 50 bucks, she said that aint bad. i said wait till you hear them. She tried them on and said " I can get behind these". Thats the only positive thing she has said about audio gear i have purchased ever lol. So take that for what ya want. Gets the WAF for price/performance.

If you are on the fence, do not be. just buy them you will not regret it. They are also cheap enough to use as great gifts to friends and family that do not know what they are missing yet =)

Just got the Meze 99 pads and they fit really well. Opens the sound a little more, but you do lose some bass.

They do look pretty sick though with these pads on. Canā€™t say much on comfort, need to use them a little longer. Definitely getting a better seal though.

So I purchased a new headset by Audio Technica, ATH-G1WL and it came with some extra earpadsā€¦

Very interesting, looks comfy :+1:

Does it do anything interesting to the sound?

Sounds pretty good. Maybe the low end is slightly less, but very very little. A little too hard for me to tell. Definetly comfy for sure.

I got the Brainwavz perforated pads for Sony as recommended by Zeos and it works great, puts more space between the pads and my ears.

These are my daily drivers and I enjoy them a lot. Buttery smooth and bassy perfect for Techno!

Did anyone else notice a weird low-end on them? With flat EQ it doesnā€™t extend nearly as low. Once you EQ itā€™s there but sometimes it sounds kinda odd, vibration if you like (rattling).
My reference is Plantronics PRO - those are great kit for bassheads, pricey though.

PS. This is my EQ for CALs which I feel they sound best with (bassy but not boomy, compensating as much for the low-end as possible). Looks simple enough but took me a while of going back and forth between different settings until I settled on this.

So is there a consensus for which pads are best on these? Iā€™m between brainwavz for sony and meze 99 or trying with random aliexpress ones

Bough CAL! 2 locally for a reasonable price. Itā€™s nice looking, solidly build, surprisingly comfortable and lightweight headphone. Pleather pads are comfortable, but not breathable. You will sweat if wearing outside. It comes with detachable cable with microphone, stop/start button and analog volume slider. Nice. The sound. Well, this oneā€™s famous for itā€™s Foster biodyna drivers. Bass impact is best in class. However, tuning on this model is far from balanced. Think something along the V-Moda M-100 line. Fun, but overwhelming bassy sound. While it can get fatiguing for music in general, for EDM / modern pop the bass performance is fantastic. Really, no other models I heard come near it. It is a big, physical, club-like experience. Higher frequencies are recessed, grainy and somewhat grungy.

When EQā€™d it became a solid headphone. Somewhat dark tilt remains, however. Mids stay somewhat recessed. Soundstage gets wider and is solid for a closed back. Solid sound, maybe missing detail a little because of the dark tonal bent. Higher frequencies stay coarse.

It is a specialist headphone, but for its narrow subset it really is incomparable.

For anyone still rocking the Aurvana Live! SE.

Hereā€™s a parametric EQ, which gets close to a neutral response (at least on my set).

Preamp: -5.9 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain -4.7 dB Q 0.4
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 101 Hz Gain -5.5 dB Q 0.32
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 764 Hz Gain -2.7 dB Q 1.87
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 1075 Hz Gain 4.1 dB Q 1.44
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 1909 Hz Gain 3.6 dB Q 2.09
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 2759 Hz Gain -10.6 dB Q 2.59
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 3475 Hz Gain 6.8 dB Q 3.98
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 5464 Hz Gain 3.4 dB Q 2.09
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 8306 Hz Gain 4.2 dB Q 0.93

If anyone tries it, lemme know your thoughts.

Thanks for this. These Ali ones work. Changing the CAL from on-ear to over-ear makes them way more usable for me.
