15% off at Bloom Audio right now using code CLUBDCA at checkout. Iām at work and havenāt checked, but I imagine all the independent headphone shops should have the same deal
Lol, i just mentioned it to the wife and she purchased me a pair. Should be in next week.
nice! I caved and bough the Closeds. They shipped today, and Iām in the same state, but for some reason the eta is Friday
Mine has to ship overseas so Iām estimating another week or two. The wife bough them last Friday as a surprise. She seen me going through checkout and said she already got me a pair.
I plugged into my old Schitt Magni 3, not the new ones, and am very surprised on how well the Aeon 2 Opens work with this ampā¦IMO the Asgard 3 or any of the new Magni 3+ (for a paltry $99) or Hersey will work very well with these cansā¦just superb hereā¦
Alex
which Aeon 2 should i get OPEN or CLOSE. i really want the CLOSE but from my research OPEN sound better then CLOSE (if im wrong tell me) but i want closed for potable use when i go to trips. also if any body ownes aeon 2 closed hows the sound leak.
So imo they are pretty close, if you are looking for closed I would go closed imo, pretty dang nice for a closed headphone. The open gets a bit more soundstage width and a bit more natural sound, but the closed really isnāt far off. The sound leak is minimal when you have them on your head imo. What are you going to be powering them with?
i dont have it yet but XDUOO XD-05 PLUS. next time i see it on drop ill get it.
Sounds pretty solid
I just got my Aeon 2 Closeds yesterday and am listening to them at work right now. The sound leakage is minimal. I had them running last night to burn in, and if the pads were positioned to be pressed together I could barely hear any sound with them sitting on my desk 2 feet away. Thatās with no seal, so I imagine when on your head there should be close to zero leakage. Iām very happy with them so far. Mr Speakers/Dan Clark recommends a crazy amount of burn in time, so they may improve over the next week, but if they donāt I am happy with them already. If you buy from Bloom Audio, they are offering the 15% club discount w/ CLUBDCA at checkout, but you can buy directly from the DCA website and get 10% off I believe. Very comfortable. The only minor complaint I have is that the cable is slightly longer than Iād prefer at 6ā. Iād have preferred 3-4.5ā since I will mostly be using portable, but after market cables arenāt as expensive as I expected them to be
hows gaming on the aeon 2 closed
Pretty great for mixed casual, itās not the most fun sound compared to something like a lcd 2 classic for really fun not care causal, but itās also not boring either for games. I donāt think itās the best if you are playing competitive all the time, but for normal gaming I think itās pretty sweet. Imaging and staging are good, and the impact is enjoyable, and the neutral signature works well with most games. In this range I donāt know if I would buy this for exclusively gaming but for like mixed usage itās pretty great
I use my opens more than all my other stuff for gaming. I have ones that technically are more suited for competitive and ones that are better for the immersive factor. But I think these have a perfect middle ground between the two. Ones I have that are better for competitive are like too in your face where itās more fatiguing. These do well at helping you hear things, but are forgiving enough that itās still enjoyable to hear. Best way I can explain it. Itās got the detail and can pick things up but things never come in as harsh. That and they are hands down the most comfortable pair I have. Itād take them on comfort over the nighthawks any day. Theyāre just enjoyable headphones in general. Others have better this or that but I think in its price range theyāre a really good all rounder. Jack of all trades but master of none kinda thing. Theyāre in my top three headphones, Aeolus, aeon 2 open, and now my newly acquired elegia. Not in that order of course. But even between the three, the aeons I would say are the most versatile in music genre and use case. My Aeolus beats the two for a relaxed listen in certain music but doesnāt have the detail and isnāt great for gaming, my elegia beats the two in detail and overall clarity but some stuff is harsh if itās badly recorded and itās begs for more attention because of how much is going on in the music. Then the aeons for me sit in the middle where I can listen to any music genre, itās got more detail than the Aeolus and less than the elegia, but itās never harsh so you can listen to all in it. Most comfy and it may not excel in areas those two do for me, but it comes close enough that they could be a one pair for all over those two.
Not quite sure why but I am seeing the closed back version for sale in multiple places yet they donāt care the open back version. Wanting to try these out but man am I coming up blank. May just be they are too newā¦ surprised Zeos hasnāt reviewed these yet.
Theyāre on sale on the Dan Clark website currently.
Mine arrived today, they donāt sound incredibly different to my aeon open x right off the bat. A bit cleaner. Note that the open x has the default one notch white tuning pads and the aeon2 comes without any tuning material installed. Iāll see how they diverge as they break in.
I started without any of the dampening pads, but after a few days I settled on the thinnest foam pad only. I feel like the thicker pads kill the detail a little bit too much, and the treble only bothers me on select tracks which the thin foam pads take the edge off of. Iām going to keep it this way for another week or so, and possibly go back to no dampening at all. I have the closed version by the way
Mind doing a comparison and tagging me on it? I own the Aeon Open X and really curious if these are worth the priceā¦ Itās a real steep difference. No dan clark store around
For sure @Falenkor Iāll see over the coming days. I also have a new dac coming once schiit gets the boards they need in from supply chain (they say by the end of this week but who actually knows?).
Yeah, I have a lot of stuff on order as well all on back orders. Appreciate it, and look forward to hearing what you think on it. Currently waiting on Sendy Aiva so I can compare it to aeon open x, since they are close to being in the same price point and both are planars.
