so this may sound odd but
i just found that in uncompressed songs i didnāt really miss dynamic slam, the slam isnāt great but itās not bad anymore. i found it to be OK, never thought that would change from MP3 to FLAC but it really did. I found that this little bit of added slam did a lot for my enjoyment with these. the Noire definitely sounded more fun to me with uncompressed songs. iām refering to the bass region
very unlike the Clear which will just shove dynamics into your ear no matter what the compression is like
did you try? iād be interested to know how you feel about it. i donāt want to be that crazy audio person so i wanted to bounce off some ideas and see if it actually makes sense, if you feel like looking into it ofc, if you donāt i understand and thats okay too!
Hmm, I did a little listening this morning and did some A/B testing with FLAC lossless audio files vs. the same files on Spotify (compressed 320kbps)ā¦ I canāt say that I really hear any difference in the low end, and if I did I think it might have been placebo. But thatās great it works for you!
may be that you would only spot it with certain types of songs since there is this one song that showed a huge different from youtube to 16 bit. I would be surprised if you wouldnt hear the same but source gear is another factor
Do you still consider them a way better version of the Meze 99? I have the Meze 99 Meze 99 Noir so I am curious what you think now. How would you compare the bass of those two?
Is this your favorite closed back you have?
You mentioned the Aeon closed X. That would be a good comparison. $400+ difference.
if anyone has the Aeon with ZMF pilot pads let me know if you can adjust freely without the pad loosening or just coming loose.
sorry for the spam hope thats okay, definitely donāt want to pull the trigger on it without knowing the possible challenges so i wanted to push a couple copypastas
Do you mean adjusting the length via the rails on the side? Yeah Iām not having any issues with that at all. Thereās a very slight bulge on top (which is also showing on your picture) but otherwise Iād say itās a pretty good fit.
had issues with the velcro on the co-pilot loosening with each use when taking them on and off my head where i pull the drivers apart to fit them onto my head. If it doesnāt sort itself out with attempts of refitting them to the band ill have this in mind, iāll end up on pulling the trigger if the issue continues
thank you alphamarshan!
on another note, did you try and EQ up the bass around 105hz?
Slight preference to topping but both are ok and really nothing more, they have good control and power delivery for the aeons and drive them decently, but the aeons will feel somewhat restricted in low level information like microdetail and microdynamics, somewhat boxed in spatial recreation, and meh timbre
which kind of sucks because aeon 2 (noire pads/noire) can get incredibly wide from right to left. got the Sinxer SA-1 coming this week so im excited to see if it retains the width of the V280, i donāt expect it too really because of the price difference but iām excited to see how much im going to be sacrificing with the downgrade
So I perceive a very slight bass boost, which is great, and also Iād say the replacement pads are just as comfortable as the stock ones, if not maybe even slightly more so because they donāt really āstickā to me the same way the stock ones do.
But in listening, I would say they are incredibly similar to the stock pads lol. Depending on the song, I may have trouble identifying which pads were which, unless there was a distinctly bass-driven song where I would know it was probably the Dekoni pads. The FR graph on their website pretty much confirms that.
Also the stock pads that came off were not damaged at all and the adhesive still seems pretty sticky? Iām keeping them and I wonder if there would be a way to swap them back in at some point in the future if I felt like it. Would be nice to know I have an āextraā pair of pads just in case.
TLDR: Dekoni sheepskin pads are great, but so similar to the stock pads that itās probably not worth the $70, but YMMV.
really really cool stuff, thanks for that! ask Dan Clark for a set of double sided tape! the tape has to come from somewhere before it gets to the pads!
with your impressions in mind it seems like a really really good buy, especially since the stock aeon pads roll over the memory foam and misshapes the pads all the time, it is super annoying having to deal with that so i may jump on it myself since your impressions of them is so super! thanks again!
it really sucks having to deal with that, may be the shape of the pad or the build idk, but iāve never seen Dekoni pads doing that so i may take my chance, what do you think about this? have you had the same issues?
BTW there is a video from Dan on a fix but i never got mine sorted out, they should really fix this internally
Hmm I see your picture but no I canāt say Iāve had the same issue. I will say that I have noticed a small indentation in the front from my glasses but thatās it. Iāll see if the Dekoni are more/less malleable as I use them though.
Hey everyone. I am just wondering whether I should take Crinacleās ranking with a grain of salt? He gave the technicality of the Aeon 2 a C, which is what he gave the Koss Porta Pro or the Sony noise cancelling headphones. Surely that canāt be right?
@DMS Hello not sure how active you are these days, i hope all is well!
So i wanted to ask real quick if you could elaborate on some of the thoughts you had in your review of the Aeon 2 Noire when it comes to what you had to say about the bass
Both me and āAlphaā in the quotation above owns a pair each but we are both unsure if we understood you correctly i think because he doesnāt seem to get it either, when you began talking about the bass being āinsane bass,ā when i heard those words i expected a good bit of bass volume but that is not what i am hearing and @alphamarshan doesnāt seem to either, iād love if you could elaborate on that, or if you donāt feel like it thats okay too ofcourse.
yeah something like that, or something to do with experience, im not sure, but i really dont feel like dynamics is a strong side of the aeon 2. i dont know why but it seems like it becomes more dynamic on certain songs, maybe its just my mind playing tricks on me or just simply down to my limited experience.
but sometimes i feel like either you have it for on giving an accurate impression of audio or you donāt, which isnt entirely fair either because everyones physiology is a little different and there is talk about that making a difference as well, but i dont want to be judgemental just because someones impression doesnt line up with mine, hell for all i know i may be the one talking absolute crap about what any particular gear actually sounds like. audio feels complicated sometimes, but its all to how much you want to overcomplicate things yourself i suppose
